Hello everyone! Well our bunkers are finallyfinished, and I think the project turned outfantastic. I am hearing a lot of positive commentsabout them and if you are like me, adjusting ourbunker play to hit out of bunkers that actually havesand in them. I would like to thank the CandylGroup for their hard work to get this project donein such a timely manner. I also want to thank themembers for their patience during constructionwhen we were having to skip holes to allow theproject to proceed without interruption from play.Having our new bunkers has put the finishingtouches on our amazing course. One of the questions I have been getting recentlyis “when is the pool going to be finished?” Withthe weather getting better we are hoping the poolcompany will be able to complete the project bymid- April. The House Committee has been

discussing doing more events out by the pool thisSpring and Summer and we are looking forwardto utilizing this area more.I would like to thank the Staff and the Board ofDirectors for their work on the 2018 Budget.Everyone is working hard to identify andimplement cost savings where we can while stillproviding excellent quality of service. As always, Iencourage you to attend Committee and BoardMeetings when you can to share your thoughtsand ideas. If you are unable to attend, feel free tocontact myself or other Board Members to shareyour thoughts and ideas.Lastly, a big congratulations to Mary Kelly forwinning the Ladies Net Match Play Championship!

See you next month…

Tournament Scores and Your HandicapSo what makes tournament scores so special? Thetournament, or “T” score, is utilized by the handicapsystem to maintain the integrity of the player’shandicaps. Presently, the following events are postedas tournament scores (T-scores). All ClubChampionships (Men’s, Senior’s and Women’s),Men’s Invitational, Women’s Invitational, SeniorInvitational, Men’s and Woman’s Spring and FallClassics, All Net Match Play tournaments and anyevent designated to be a tournament score by theHandicap Committee in conjunction with theTournament Committee.Golf is a gentleman’s game and everyone is expectedto play to the best of their ability every time they play.So when someone says, “I play better in tournamentsbecause I concentrate better” or “I play better when itmeans something” the T-score is incorporated intothe handicap system just for this situation. We know that your handicap index is based upon thebest 10 of your last 20 scores. Those ten areaveraged and slightly lowered in the formula toobtain your handicap index. However, your T-scoresare also involved in the formula. T-scores are kept for

12 months or longer if they are within the most recent20 posted scores. Without getting into the exactformula, if you shoot more than 3.0 strokes belowyou handicap index (not course handicap) more thanonce, your handicap index may be adjusteddownward. Should this happen to you, you will seean “R” by your index. This is an automaticallygenerated reduction by the handicap calculatingsoftware. These reductions are reviewed by the handicapcommittee regularly but rarely is there any disputewith the results of the computation. Since thehandicap index represents your potential ability, itonly makes sense that the t-score should also be partof this formula since you have proven you have theability to shoot lower scores in tournament situations. Please contact me or our committee should you haveany questions about this procedure and good luck inour upcoming tournaments!

If for a while the harder you try the harder it gets,"take heart" so it has been with the best people whoever lived.  ---Who's On First ? -----The Seniors' Club Ryder Cup hascome and gone!   What a relief, so many questions ,---"what happens if it rains, who is my partner, what isthe game and why are we playing that game ?" andthen the same questions five minutes later !.   Who'sOn First ?-----Why everyone was asking the Bandit,he does not know.  Sometimes it's better to justremain silent and smile !  The bandit just writes theresults of the games.  But again, Who's On First ? -----The Seniors' Club Ryder Cup is the Granddaddy ofall our Golf Games during the year.   For us elderlygentlemen it is the "Masters".   A chance to show offour skills and to be able to have the bragging rightsfor a full year of winning it.  Part of being a champ isacting like a champ, you have to learn how to winand not run away when you lose. Day one of ourRyder Cup two day tournament started out with adelicious breakfast, warming up out on the practicerange and putting a little. You could sense and feelthe adrenaline in all the twenty four players as theyheaded out to the Tee Box.  As always with theSeniors on the first tee,  no jitters, lots of jive though. After the first drive the seniors settled down to a

serious competitive fun day of golf.  The team of  JimHankal, John Daugherty, John Hendrickson, rfortado, Dan Morgan, Gary Younkin, Jerry Parson,Glen Elder, Steven Bracken, Steven Kyte, TerryMcGrath and Don Ulrich came to play, like there wasno tomorrow.  They scored nine and half points tolead by seven.  Even though falling behind by sevenpoints, the team of William Creeggan, Bruce Porter,Richard Larson, Hal Thompson, Mike Vincent,Durwood Tell, Don Carlberg, Paul Peterson, MiltRaugust, John Rogers, Don Duree and Sid Emersondid not give up, they knew that normally it is the lastkey on the ring which opens the door.  Starting thesecond day of play with determination they finish thegame to close within ten points of winning it all..  Butthe team of Hankal, Daugherty, Hendrickson, fortado,Morgan, Younkin, Parson, Elder, Bracken, Kyte,McGrath and Ulrich held steady, did not make manymistakes, sunk the putts when under pressure andnow hold the bragging rights till the next Ryder Cup.Those brave warriors who came in second place tookhome a prize (a crying towel) for this memory makinggame.  Remember My Friends, "Don't compare yourlife to others.  There's no comparison between the sunand the moon.  They shine when it's their time".     --------The Senior Roving Reporter ----The Bandit.

Pilates & Golf. . . A WINNING COMBO!

You golf. You want to get better. INSERT PILATES!

Golfing involves constantly torqueing the body andrepeating the same movements, which ultimatelyleads to muscular imbalances from certain musclesbeing overused, while others become weakened.Muscular imbalances in the legs, hips, arms, shoulders, and lower back can definitely affect yourgolf game, especially as you age. You mayexperience less distance in your drives, less accuracy, and a decrease in stamina. Even more worrisome, the risk for potential strains, pulls and tears in themuscles increases.Golfers for many years now have turned to Pilates tohelp improve muscular imbalances, thus improvingtheir game and decreasing the risk of injury.

Why do Pilates & Golf pair so well together? As you know, the main movements of golf are basedon movement from the center of the body. Pilates isalso completely based around moving from thecenter of the body. Pilates strengthens the core, which is essential for golf because core strength canimprove hip rotation, range of motion in theshoulders and back stability.

Not only does Pilates strengthen the core, but it isalso a full body workout, leading to improvedflexibility and symmetry in muscles.

iIf you haven’t tried Pilates, now’s the time!Especially as the Men’s Invitational is quicklyapproaching! All you need is a couple sessions eachweek to see improvements in your body and yourgolf game! Want to give it a try? Contact me andI’ll set you up with a FREE session at The Studio! Weoffer small group and private training sessions. Plus,we are adding a Heated Pilates Suspension Training

Class this month, which will definitely challenge yourcore and improve mobility/flexibility!

Start now and in just 10 sessions, you will FEEL ADIFFERENCE!

● Play ready golf: Just because it’s call “honor”doesn’t mean its dishonorable to play out ofturn. It’s far more dishonorable to keep thegroup behind you waiting all day long.

● Be ready for your turn: don’t sit and wait whileyour cart partner plays; go get ready for yourown shot and be ready to hit when it is yourturn.

● Shorten the Pre-Shot routine: Although prideand some money may be on the line betweenfriends, you do not need to have a lengthypre-shot routine.

● Don’t over read putts: yes, professionals lookat putts from every angle. They also areplaying for millions of dollars. If you want toget multiple angles, do so before your turn so

that when it is your turn all you need is onelast look before pulling the trigger.

● Place your equipment properly: There isnothing more annoying than watching aplayer walk to the far side of the green toretrieve a club after completing a hole.

● Proceed to the next hole if you’re the first oneto hole out. Use this when your group isbehind to catch up. (You are behind if youwere standing on the next tee and the group ismore than a shot ahead of you.)

Spring is finally here! It has been a cold dry winter, with many a frost delay’s. Lately we have also gottensome much needed rain. The golf course isprogressing along.Bunker restoration project is moving along, we arefinishing up as I write this article. All bunkers havebeen completed and we are finishing the finaltouches with re-sodding around them now. We willbe packing these bunkers with a sand pro daily for awhile until we get them firmed up. The faces will alsobe compacted over time. All bunker rakes have beenre-placed with new rakes which will beperfect for our new bunkers.Greens are doing well. They have been needledtinned monthly and top- dressed in sand every otherweek. Bi-weekly micro nutrients are being sprayed.Monthly needle tinning is taken place for venting thegreens and pushing roots down. A 2nd winterfungicide application was recently completed. Bi-weekly sand top-dressing will aid in ball speed andsmoothness.Periodic herbicide application will occur on thefairways for poa annua control. They are starting towake up from dormancy and with the forecastedhighs of 70’s, and soil temps getting above 55degrees, it’s just a matter of time now.The roughs are being spot treated for broadleafweeds. A few areas around greens have beensodded. Some slit seeding was performed in somethin or bare areas. Bi-weekly foliar applications aremade on the over-seeded rye grass areas.

Spring aerification will be taking place this month. The following dates are scheduled for theseprocesses.

As these cultivation practices are completed theseareas will be fertilized, a pre-emergent herbicideapplication will be done in all over-seeded rye-grassareas for spring weeds. These cultivation steps will

make for great golfing conditions in the springthrough summer months.

- Raise level sprinkler heads around greens andfairways will be on-going.- Make blue tee on #16 larger.- On-going Tree work.- Monthly cart path edging.

Thank you all for your patience during theseprocesses.

Happy Golfing
