Mrs Lindy Gaskin is taking the new class of graduates from R16. Both R15 and R16 will grow throughout the year as more 5 year olds start coming to school. We have also had a number of staff away sick this term, which means our relievers have been kept very busy. It is always our preference to have the same teacher in front of each class as consistently as possible, however, sickness, and the disruption that comes with it, is unavoidable. Our thoughts are with Mrs Draisey in particular, as she struggles to be well enough to return to work. We are looking forward to seeing her soon. At the end of the term, we will also say farewell to Tracy Tindle. Tracy will be travelling through Europe for several months and then possibly living in Australia with her family, after that. We are sorry to see her go, but wish her all the best. Miss Tindle will be replaced, for the remainder of the year, by Jo Brocherie, one of our regular relievers. Miss Tindle has many strengths, but one of particular note is in the teaching of ICT. Over the years Miss Tindle has not only developed her own skills but also supported staff in this area. The school is in a good position to maintain our digital learning programmes thanks to capable leadership from Ngadia Jones, and others. Team 3-4 Production The hard work is paying off. Our Team 3-4 Production of “BANTER IN THE BUS SHED” is taking shape wonderfully well, thanks to the huge effort of staff and students. You’ll miss an exciting event if you forget to order your tickets. Make sure you set aside Tuesday or Wednesday night (4 th / 5 th July). Tickets are on sale NOW! Pre-sold tickets cost $5 each or $20 a family. On the night the cost becomes $7 each or $23 a family, so get in early. The doors of the Community Centre will open from 6pm on show night. Regards, Dave Bradley Principal A reminder: It has been brought to our attention by a member of the public that two of our young students were seen this week crossing SH1 at the top of School Road. We ask that parents and caregivers remind children of the extreme danger of crossing the road at this point. They must walk with their siblings up the footpath to the underpass entry across from Rodney College and cross to the other side of the road using this facility. Thank you for reinforcing this with your children to keep our students safe. Education Tips for Parents Doing well at school How can I help? You can make your child’s school experience more productive if you: Participate on the School Support Team, Board of Trustees, School Trips and events/or support those who do. Attend Parent teacher meetings, SST meetings, Whanau meetings and School events. Realise that in schools just like other places, things sometimes go wrong. With your help, well- adjusted students can channel failure into positive learning outcomes. When things go wrong expect a quick response from the school rather than an instant cure. Remember that issues with your child can be very emotional, so be sure to focus calmly on the problem or behaviour, not the person. Co-operate with schools, teachers, other parents. Trust your own feelings about your child. If you are sure he/she needs extra help or stimulation, talk to the staff. Use your energies to ensure that your child is making the most of the opportunities offered by your school. Support your school by encouraging children to attend regularly and punctually, have the right uniform and equipment, obey school rules, pay on time for trips and services. If a student sees that an adult has respect for the work of the school and actively supports what the school is trying to achieve then the student is more likely to feel that it is worthwhile to listen, participate, co-operate, be proud, accept praise, see school as a positive place to be, and see that problems with teachers or learning have solutions. As parents, you can be the ideal role model for all of that. Offer positive support to staff “thank you” notes and calls are always appreciated.

    adjusted students can channel failure

    quick response from the school

Remember – that issues with your child can be very emotional, so be

sure to focus calmly on the problem

    or behaviour, not the person.

Co-operate – with schools, teachers, other parents.

Trust – your own feelings about your child. If you are sure he/she

needs extra help or stimulation, talk

    to the staff.

Use – your energies to ensure that your child is making the most of the

    opportunities offered by your

    school.

Support – your school by encouraging children to attend
