Junior examinations began yesterday for all our Year 9 and 10 students and continue on Monday and Tuesday next week. At this time of year people sometimes comment that we will be ‘winding down’. I have to say it never feels like that! Teachers are busy marking exams, reviewing the NCEA exams their senior students are sitting and reviewing courses for next year. There is also a lot of professional development going on at this time of year and we have the inevitable school-wide budgeting and planning to do for the new year. Work carries on as usual for our 800 Year 9-10 students.

Our continuing best wishes to our senior students who are sitting NCEA and Scholarship exams!

Memorise key vocabulary and/or quotations/examples.

In the examination room look through the paper, work out what has to be done, work out how much time can be spent on each task, and write down any memorise words / quotations / examples that can be used.

Year 13 Leavers CeremonySave the Date: Monday 5 December from 6 pm - 7:30 pm.

Tickets are now on sale for the Year 13 Leavers Ceremony. The intention is to have a ceremony to celebrate students who have stayed to complete Year 13 and then to allow students and families their own personal celebration. Tickets are $15 per person and payment will need to be to the Cashier by Monday 28 November. Tickets will be issued closer to the event.

Rosehill College Gateway Programme

Applications for 2017

Applications are now open for our 2017 Gateway Programme. The programme at Rosehill College applies to senior students returning in 2017 as a Year 12 or 13 student.

A number of students have put their names down for consideration and applications are currently open until school returns in Term 1, 2017.

Gateway is a Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) funded programme designed to strengthen the pathways for senior students (Y12/13) with the transition from school into the workplace. The Programme Coordinator invites students to apply, then interviews each student to ascertain career options for each individual. If accepted for Gateway, the Coordinator finds students work experience in a variety of careers in the community. There is a focus on students looking at transitioning into either a trade or directly into employment after leaving school. The programme delivers Gateway students additional work related courses and training with NCEA credits to help them toward their chosen goals. Gateway assists in making good work connections for students and in some situations, work placements may lead on to either employment or apprenticeship opportunities. Gateway has limited places so if you would like to be considered, pick up an application from Mrs Dyer in the Gateway Office at the back of the School Library or click this shortcut to be taken to the form.

Each week, every Year 9 and 10 student is gauged against our school values by the teachers of English, Maths, Science, Social Studies and PE. Students who achieve the maximum possible marks for five weeks gain a Bronze Award. By gaining another five weeks of maximum values, students move from Bronze to Silver and so on.

The Manaakitanga awards indicate that these students are being consistently Respectful, Responsible and Caring - or in other words are showing Manaakitanga.

Equestrian A huge congratulations goes out to Emily Hastings who competed at the Dressage Waikato Festival at Waipa last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Emily competed in the Level 1 Amateur competition and with four test placings she came away with Overall Reserve Champion Level 1 Amateur. Emily also won 1st in the Pony/Young rider Level 1 test. These are amazing results, well done!

WaterpoloAnother very good, strong game for our Junior Waterpolo team last week. Rosehill could have won, but just lost out 2-3 to Rutherford mixed High School. It was a shame that in the dying seconds an awesome shot by Lily Hart that went in the goal was ruled to not have crossed fully over the line! Better luck next time for the team who have two games this weekend. Highlights of last weekend’s game included Josh Baker who was awesome in goal, the score would have been a lot higher if not for numerous great saves. We created a lot of opportunities but our finishing let us down, lots of shots over the top of goal or directly at the goalie. All players contributed throughout the game with Jessica strong in the field and scoring 2 great goals!

Summer ReadingOur Summer Reading programme will be available again this year. Students can borrow up to 15 books to read over the summer break. They will need to collect a permission slip from the library for parents to sign. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity.

Encouraging students to read a wide variety of texts over the summer break will help to prevent the ‘summer slide’ and will have positive impact on their learning when they return to school next year.
