Tēna koutou katoa - a warm welcome to you all We are now into Term 4, Week 3 and things are starting to get really busy. Please keep checking the long term plan on the school website so you know what is coming up and can assist your child with their organisation if needed. Athletics Day Next week we start the week with Athletics Day on Monday 2 nd November. The day’s activities will begin at 9.15am and the timetabled rotation will be posted on the web- site. In the case of inclement weather only the events for the Year 4-8 students will be held. This will enable us to identify those students who will be able to compete at the Lower Waipa Athletics Day on Friday 13 th November 2015. Thank you to all of the parents/caregivers who quickly responded to our plea for more helpers, we will need you all. Please could all helpers meet in the school library at 8:30am on Monday. To ensure your child is prepared, please make sure you place a reminder somewhere significant where you will remember to check that your child has a named drink bottle, lunch, named sunhat and the appropriate clothing for the day. There will be no sausage sizzle available. On Tuesday we had a lot of year 1 - 3 students who arrived without their swimming togs for their afternoon lessons because of the Labour Day holiday on Monday. To avoid a repeat of this situation on Monday the 2 nd November, please take the time to check your child is organised for Athletics Day. When possible, students are also encouraged to dress up (but still be able to participate) in their house colours. Camp at Lake Karapiro On Tuesday our Year 5 and 6 students, Mr Mitchell, Mr Rennie and Miss Nielsen depart for their 3 days and 2 nights of education outside the classroom activities at Lake Karapiro. We know they will have heaps of fun trying new things, staying away from home and learning to work with each other in differ- ent ways. Parents of students attending the camp are welcome to call into camp and be involved in the action. A camp programme detailing the activities will be sent home with your child tomorrow. For the Room 5 students not going to camp, it will be school as usual. Mrs Millington, Mrs McRobbie and I will all be teaching you at different times of the day during that time. Agricultural Day feedback and results On site at Agricultural Day was Anne Grady, a University of Auckland Educational Facilitator who is leading our writing professional learning and conduct- ing the leadership teams annual appraisals. Anne emailed this feedback to Mark Turnwald our BOT chairperson: I thought the presentation of Ag Day was a significant feather in the School's cap! It seemed to epitomise the kind of values and student behaviour that all schools would aspire to. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, whilst still enabling the competitive element of traditional 'calf club' competition - where students had made a significant effort with turnout, presentation and care of all the animals. Students appeared to take a lead role in organising the various games and all students behaved impeccably. The standard of the displays in the Hall were outstanding - demonstrating creativity and a real sense of fun. I think this day showcased Ōhaupō's point of difference from their city counter parts and Ag day is something that the community should treasure. (Many parents would dearly love for their child to be able to participate in such a happy well run event, which maintains some strong connections with the community's history). Warmest congratulations to the Staff, Board and all those involved with such a successful day. Anne Grady …….and now our congratulations to all of our participants and the following prize winners (results shown overleaf on page 2). Keep up the great work!
