November 20,2016 Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe

The annual Angel Tree program sponsored by the Council of Catholic Women has been an

annual “giving” project for our parish for many years. It is our opportunity as a parish to

make Christmas a little merrier for the children and families of a local migrant worker camp.

The primary need for the children is clothing and shoes. A Christmas tree is in the narthex

adorned with pink and blue angels each with a child’s name and sizes of needed items. Gift

card envelopes will be on the tree for food for the families. Select an angel or a gift card

envelope and purchase all the items listed on it, but only one of each item. If you want to buy multiple

shirts, pants and shoes, then select more than one angel. Wrap the items and attach the angel to the gift.

This insures that the child you selected gets your gift. Your wrapped gifts should be placed under the tree.

The sealed gift card envelopes are to be placed in the basket by the tree by November 27, 2016. The priority

is to provide clothing and shoes for each child. If you wish to give a toy please do so, but in addition to rather

than instead of the items listed on the angels .Your generosity in the past has been overwhelming. The

need is great this year and your support is sincerely appreciated.

REFLECTIONS FOR ADVENT ADORATION

PREPARING FOR THE CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS: PLANNING When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?” Matthew 26:40 It may seem strange to reflect on this passage during Advent, but Jesus’ question is relevant every day of the year. So you could not be with me for one hour. PRACTICE: Reflect on the words below: “Hungry for love, He looks at you. Thirsty for kindness, He begs of you. Naked for loyalty, He hopes in you. Homeless for shelter in your heart, He asks of you. Will you be that one to Him?” St. Teresa of Calcutta, In the Heart of the World: Thoughts, Stories and Prayer. This is how much Jesus wants to be with you. This is how much he wants to celebrate each day with you. Think about it each day of Advent. Reflect on Jesus’ question together with St. Teresa’s quote. Jesus looks for our love, our kindness, our loyalty. He looks for a union of true love. Will you spend the hour with Him? Will you be that one? As you prepare for Christmas, think about the celebration you are planning. Is it focused on Jesus, the one whose birth you are invited to celebrate? How much of your preparation for Christmas is spiritual? Prayerful? Dedicated to Jesus? How much of your Christmas celebration will actually be about Jesus? Is your time spent on buying gifts and stocking stuffers, grabbing bargains on sale, driving to a theme park to see Santa and ice shows? Is your time spent jingling, jangling and ho-ho-ing? Do you think that this is the celebration Jesus wants? Do you think Jesus feels invited to your celebration? We have come to a time when society has to be reminded that “Jesus is the reason for the season.” Reflect on how sad this must be for Christ. What it must be like for the King of Kings to have the celebration of his birth so distorted that some have to be reminded of what they are celebrating. “Hungry for love, He looks at you. Thirsty for kindness, He begs of you. Naked for loyalty, He hopes in you. Homeless for shelter in your heart, He asks of you.” Try to imagine someone celebrating your birthday in a way that has nothing to do with you. Imagine some-one celebrating your birthday but not inviting you. Hard to fathom, isn’t it? Jesus hungers for your love and your loyalty. He wants to spend time with you. Will you celebrate with Him this Christmas? Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday 9:00am to 2:30pm in the Chapel of Adoration. The Divine Mercy Chaplet is prayed at 2:00pm every Friday. All are welcome. If you would like to join The Adoration Program at St. Frances Cabrini call or email Alice Burns 919-306-6292 [email protected].
