Pastoral Letter
We have begun our 50-day celebration of the Easter season—Alleluia! And we do this because Easter is the most important feast on our church calendar. For seven full weeks we reflect on the meaning of the Resurrection of Christ—His appearance first to the women and the first apostles, then to the Twelve, and then the many appearances of Jesus to the disciples. Then, on the fiftieth day, when the resurrection event was beginning to sink in, we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit to the community, the birthday of the Church. Last week I spoke with you about the meaning of Easter for me. I think that the resurrection is God’s invitation to us to start over, to begin again, to have a second (or third, or fourth) chance to get things right. Most of us will welcome this opportunity as especially “good news” from our God, who in the Bible was always giving his people second chances, fresh starts, new life. And in Christ we have the perfect expression of this new life, for that is why Christ came in the first place—that we might have life, and have it in abundance. In today’s Gospel, we see that Thomas the apostle was not present with the others when Christ appeared in His resurrected body. Like most of us, he found this news very difficult to understand. He, like us, doubted that it was true. But Jesus gave him a huge second chance, another opportunity to believe. Thomas took his second chance, and it made all the difference! And now, during this Easter season, we have the same opportunity for a second chance. With Christ’s help, and God’s grace, we can experience the new life Christ won for us. Jesus has already claimed His new life, and now it is our chance to claim ours.

St Joseph Table Update Many stories of the origin of the St Joseph Table can be found. While all are unique, each results with the poor benefiting from the proceeds of the St Joseph Table. This year, we at St Joseph, hosted a Table, honoring St Joseph and also hoping to raise funds to help those in need. Many parishioners responded to our request for donated baked goods. Fr. Don blessed the Table after the 7:15 AM Mass. Many volunteers assisted and we raised 989.59. These proceeds will be given to Holy Cross Melkite church to assist local Syrian families in need. We hope to continue this tradition in the coming years. Thank you for your generous support.
Where the world tells me that my destiny is shaped and determined by the past, I will claim that God is my future, and that I can yet be what God has planned for me to become. Christ wants me to start over again, and to keep starting over and over and over again until by His grace I get it right. (By the way, our mothers were right when they told us kids, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”) That is the Gospel truth, the good news. Alleluia! Father Don Romito

Here Stephen Binz has chosen key biblical texts to help readers discover how to rekindle the fire of the Holy Spirit and allow God's Spirit to manifest these divine graces and spiritual gifts more richly within them. FOUNDED BY A PRIEST TO PROTECT CATHOLIC FAMILIES The Knights of Columbus insurance story begins in the winter of 1882 in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn. It was there that our Venerable founder, Father Michael J. McGivney, gathered the men of his parish together to create a solution to a recurring problem. Many Catholics — most of whom were immigrants — were working and living in unfavorable conditions. And many, tragically, were dying young, leaving behind widows and orphans with insufficient financial resources. It was a cold reality that had confronted Father McGivney all too often — not only in the lives of his parishioners — but in his own. As a seminarian, he was forced to leave school and return home to aid his family when his father died unexpectedly. Though this story of financial ruin for Catholic families was common, Father McGivney was convinced that there was a way to change the ending. He knew that if the Catholic men in his parish came together in mutual aid, widows and orphans could receive the support they needed. He also knew that if Catholic men banded together, united by charity and unity, they could strengthen their faith, their families, and their communities. So, he established the Knights of Columbus insurance system to protect the Catholic families in his parish. Over time, that system has evolved, and today we stay true to our founding mission through our multi-billion dollar, top-rated insurance program. Members in the United States and Canada have exclusive access to our insurance program and products, including life insurance, retirement annuities, long-term care insurance, and disability income insurance. Our charitable giving and fraternal service have continued to grow too. Nearly 2 million men in over a dozen countries across the globe are proud to call themselves Knights. Last year alone, these men and their families donated more than $177 million to charity and performed more than 75 million hours of service. Throughout the past year, we have sought to unite the members of RCIA to Jesus. The culmination of our union with Jesus is in the Eucharist. The neophytes will have, for the very first time, experienced the fullness of that intimacy at the Easter Vigil when they joined us at the Eucharistic table. You have felt that intimacy yourself. For most of us, nothing equals the powerful feeling of the Spirit surging through a singing, worshipping assembly gathered for Eucharist. The distinctive spirit and power of this time after baptism is derived from their new, personal experience of the sacraments and of the community, thus the perfect setting is the Sunday Masses of the Easter season. Please welcome the neophytes, our newly baptized, with open arms in warmth and hospitality, and help them to feel more at home in the community of St. Joseph.
