Fancy holding a Big Pancake Party for Clatterbridge? This guide contains everything you need to organise your day, you can do it at work, school or at home, the main aim is to have fun and raise much needed cash for Clatterbridge cancer patients.

Top Tips for organising the perfect pancake party

Where to hold it It could be at work in the office or staff canteen, at home, school or in a community hall. Hold an all day party or just use it to make the most of your morning tea break.

You can even make it a fun Friday rather than Shrove Tuesday, whatever fits in best for you.

Can’t cook, won’t cook? You may not have the facilities at your party venue to cook pancakes. If not, simply cook them the day before and pop them in the microwave to heat, or buy scotch pancakes from your local supermarket.

If you do want to make your own, we have a fabulous recipe card to make sure you don't go wrong.

Who to invite Take part with your colleagues, customers, friends, family, or schoolmates. Big or small, it doesn't matter, the main aim is to have fun & raise much needed cash.

How to promote it Spread the word by putting up posters, sending emails, using our facebook page or your staff intranet, notice boards, newsletters. Promoting through local shops and businesses or send out invites… whatever works best for you! Why not contact us for a sample press release and get publicity from your local paper? If you have a special reason for taking part and want to share your story, just give us a call on 0151 482 7948.

Makes 15 8oz/225g plain flour 2 large eggs 1/2 pint/285ml milk 1/2 pint/285ml water A pinch of salt A little oil An 8 inch frying pan (top-tip: a cast iron, non-stick pan will give great results) • Sift the flour and salt into a mixing bowl and make a well in the centre • Drop in the eggs, then, using a wooden spoon, gradually work in the flour from around the sides • As the batter thickens, gradually mix in half the milk and water then whisk the batter for at least

a minute to incorporate air and create a smooth consistency • Stir in the rest of the liquid and it’s ready to use

• Make a pad out of kitchen paper, dip into a little cooking oil and wipe it around the inside of the

frying pan • Heat the pan thoroughly on a high heat, then carefully wipe the inside again with the oil pad

(top-tip: The hotter the pan, the less chance of the pancake sticking) • Pour a little batter into the pan, tilting it about until the base is thinly coated • Cook on one side until brown, then loosen it from the sides of the pan and turn it or toss it to

cook the other side • As the pancakes are ready, stack them in a tea towel to keep warm

(top-tip: pancakes can be stored in a polythene bag in a cool place for about 5 days or for 1 month in the freezer)

Note: Extra care MUST be taken when cooking pancakes and using a hot pan. Children must always be accompanied by an adult and not left unsupervised.

Together against cancer

Clatterbridge your cancer centre Every year Clatterbridge treats around 26,000 at our centre in Wirral, our specialist radiotherapy centre in Liverpool and at our seven chemotherapy units situated in hospitals across Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire. Every penny donated to the charity helps to change the lives of people with cancer, allowing us to offer the most up to date treatment, support vital research and provide life-changing support services that would otherwise be unavailable.

Alison’s Story When 17 year old Alison Davies found out she could be pregnant, she was overjoyed. What followed was worse than Alison or her loved ones could have imagined. Her Ultrasound scan showed that she wasn’t pregnant, she had ovarian cancer. It was devastating news, but the tumour was successfully removed and Alison began a course of chemotherapy, involving a five day stay at Clatterbridge every three weeks. During her time at Clatterbridge, Alison, along with her friends and family, decided to give something back to the centre, and she threw herself into fundraising for the charity. Alison says “We’ve got plenty of ideas to raise as much money as possible for the centre and the fantastic work that’s done here.” Alison completed her chemo in October and has recently celebrated her 18th birthday. She is now looking forward to a happy and healthy future.
