Saturday Evening: 5:00 PM Sunday:10:00AM, 12:00PM 1st Sunday 8:00 AM Italian/English Mass Monday-Saturday: 9:00 AM in the Chapel Holy Days of Obligation: Mass times will be listed in the bulletin on the Sunday prior to the holy day.

CELEBRATION OF SACRAMENTS

BAPTISM: Communal celebrations of Baptism take place on the first and third Sundays at 2:00 PM. To arrange a Bap-tism, please call the Rectory. A Baptismal Instruction Session is required before the Baptism. Because Godparents play an im-portant role in the child’s Christian life and education, Godpar-ents must be practicing Catholics who have been confirmed, are at least 14 years of age and, if married, must be in a mar-riage recognized by the Catholic Church. If there is a question about the suitability of someone to be a Godparent, please call the Rectory before asking the person to be a Godparent. RECONCILIATION: The Sacrament of Penance takes place on Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:45 PM. At other times, the person should make the request directly to a priest. MARRIAGE: Engaged couples should contact the Rectory at least six months in advance. Diocesan regulations require a marriage preparation program for all couples. MINISTRY TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND: If a parishion-er is in the hospital or homebound, please contact the Rectory. Arrangements can be made for the person to receive the Sac-rament of the Anointing of the Sick. Also, Holy Communion can be brought to our homebound parishioners.

KEEPING UP WITH EXPENSES The parish effort to closely manage day to day expens-es continues. However, expenses such as utilities, prop-erty insurance and our archdiocesan assessment for central services (in some months totaling as much as $15,000) put a strain on our ability to keep current with all expenses. Our objective is to achieve that goal with-out any assistance from the Archdiocese. The continued generosity of every parishioner and increased giving whenever possible will make that possible. Thank you for your continued support.

PARISHIONER REGISTRATION Parishioner registration is important to the parish as well as the parishioner. All parishioners are encouraged to register. Once you have registered and continue to par-ticipate by attending Mass and receiving the Eucharist regularly; you will find it helpful for the enrollment of children in the Religious Education Program, and to obtain the necessary documents to become a Godpar-ent or a sponsor for Confirmation. If you would like to register please stop by the rectory during regular business hours. Monday thru Friday 9am to 4pm. If you are presently receiving envelopes and would like them discontinued please call the rectory and we will assist you. (845-561-2264)

Second Collection

Each year our parish is pleased to host a mission speaker as part of the Mission Appeal Co-op Program in the Diocese of Norwich. This year a representative from “Outreach to Haiti” will be speaking at all the Masses this weekend. We welcome Fr. Frank Rouleau a volunteer for “Outreach to Haiti”, who will speak about the pre-sent condition of the Haitian people and how “Outreach to Haiti” is helping with its many pro-grams Outreach to Haiti is a sponsored ministry of the Diocese of Norwich, Ct. OTH is committed to serve the people of Haiti in the spirit and values of the Gospel by providing sacramental and spiritual support. This is accomplished through education, health care, parish twinning opportuni-ties and community development for Haitians in need and hospitality to international volunteers and visitors. Outreach to Haiti provides scholarships with full school tuition for 300 students. A multifaceted medical program provides both onsite and mobile clinics. Through the twinning programs they are able to support two orphanages and a daily meal for many children. The earthquake in 2010 devastated most of Port-au-Prince including the two buildings that had been accommodating our guests and programs. After 6 years Outreach to Haiti is close to reaching its goal of rebuilding their facilities. We hope that Fr. Rouleau’s talk will inspire and inform you of the plight of the Haitian people.

9/11 REMEMBERED Fifteen years ago, the continuing TV coverage of the imploding twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York was unbearable for me, as were accounts of the crashes and destruction in Washington and the hills of Pennsylvania. The immense devastation of hu-man life was incomprehensible. Visiting the site in New York some five years later reopened searing wounds, and overwhelmed me with immense sadness. An in-cursion on our soil, carefully planned and executed by foreign elements, had shattered my cherished sense of security, and provoked a frightening sense of God’s absence. How could my Catholic faith tradition enable me to endure this tragedy? I knew that neither vengeance nor sweeping animosity was an option for me. You have left us crushed . . . covered us with darkness. We are bowed down to the ground (Psalm 44:20, 26). O Lਮਣ of hosts, restore us; Let your face shine upon us (Psalm 80:4). The Psalmist cries a lament, expressing the mourning of the Israelite people, the chosen of God, who had regarded themselves as untouchable and above reproach, now hurled into misery. The lament expresses a nation’s agony, dares to complain against their divine protector, may even own some complicity in the misery, and finally pleads with God for deliver-ance. In the midst of lamenting, the faith of Israel en-dured, as must ours. We are as vulnerable as they were to the violence and hatred that seem to encircle us. Our demand for a divine explanation goes unheed-ed. Yet we have learned of the self-sacrificing heroism of many, witnessing to the finest character of our na-tion and of our Christian heritage. Dying for one’s friends is a sacred theme in our story, epitomized in Jesus, our Savior, and extended through centuries in the grandest and noblest acts of men and women in all circumstances. In 2001 we came together as one nation under God, sharing the grief, the disillusionment, and the promise to rebuild. As today we lament our honored dead and wounded, shall we translate such agonizing emotion into a persistent pursuit of worldwide reconcilia-tion and peace?

—Rev. Andrew Nelson, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

RECONCILIATION True reconciliation is emotional, dramatic, and cleansing. When two people meet heart to heart and work through old hurts, misunderstandings, and careless words, cleansing tears often flow and the encounter ends with an embrace that fills both with the warmth of a love too strong to fade. The readings this weekend assure us of this healthy release that comes with reconciliation. They give us the courage to reach out to someone with whom we need to reconcile ourselves, and give us the courage to ask for forgiveness from God, too. In the reading from Exodus, we see how God refus-es again and again to give up on the Israelites. Even though they grow impatient with God and turn to false idols, God still calls them back. Luke’s Gospel assures us that God rejoices when we turn away from sin. Paul’s letter to Timothy encourages us, like Paul, to look back on our lives and recognize where God’s patient mercy has been shown to us.
