Catechetical Sunday

The word "catechesis" means "to echo." Literally, we are to echo the good news of Jesus Christ to the world. This is not a suggestion; it is a command of our Lord. Some people are called and set apart in our communities as catechists, those formally trained and charged with passing on the Gospel to children and adults, inside and outside of our communities. On Catechetical Sunday, we acknowledge them and remind ourselves of the need for formation and growth in all of us. To be a catechist is a privileged calling, and today be sure to say "thank you" to one in your community.

However, it would be wrong on this day to only look to those bearing the NAME of catechist for an echoing of good news. ALL of us are called to echo and share the Gospel message. Parents are the first and primary catechists in a child's life. But we also are important catechists in the lives of our coworkers, our spouses, our relatives, and our friends. Some say catechesis begins in the home, and while that is true, it carries with it a parent/child connotation. But where does catechesis really begin? It begins in the HEART. This year on Catechetical Sunday, may your heart be moved to motivate you to share with others the good news of Jesus Christ.

RCIC This program is an adapted version of our RCIA program for children that have reached the age of reason (7 years old) and have not yet received the sacrament of Baptism. Classes will run on a weekly basis, Thursdays from 5:45pm- 7:00pm, beginning September 24th. Please contact Elia Lerma for more information. Registrations are available in the rectory.

Religious Education for Grades 1-5 Our religious education program is designed for the young children of our parish and includes preparation for First Reconciliation as well as First Communion. Each child will attend weekly classes on Monday or Tuesday (depending on the day assigned to your child) from 5:45pm- 7:00pm. This program begins September 21st and 22nd. For more information please contact Elia Lerma. Registration forms are available in the rectory.

EDGE Our EDGE program is for the middle school-aged youth of our parish (Grades 6-8). Classes will run on (most) Fridays from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, beginning September 25th. Please contact Monica Quiñones for additional information. We have registration forms available in the parish rectory.

LifeTeen LifeTeen is a Faith Formation program for parishioners attending high school this Fall. This program also includes preparation coursework that is required to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Classes begin September 20th and will take place most Sundays from 6:30pm- 8:00pm. For more information please contact Monica Quiñones or visit the rectory office to pick up a registration form.

RCIA You are invited to our first meeting on Sunday, October 4th from 10:00 – 1:00 p.m. (includes attending 11:00 a.m. mass). If you are interested in becoming Catholic, or if you, as a Catholic, would like to join us in this fulfilling mission, please contact Deacon Rick to find out more. You may leave a message for him through the rectory office at 882-4362 or send him an email at [email protected].

“Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me;

and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.”

- Mk 9, 37

Confirmation While baptism is the gateway to all sacraments, Confirmation enlivens the graces of Baptism to make the other sacraments more effective in our lives. Our Confirmation program is offered to teens in tenth grade or older that will be starting their second year of our faith formation program, LifeTeen. This year, Confirmation preparation will take place on the same evenings as Lifeteen. Students in the Confirmation program will be asked to complete independent work and actively participate in group discussions during part of the evening. If you have a child that will be participating in the Confirmation Preparation courses please attend the first mandatory Parent Meeting on September 27th from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Additional information regarding program requirements will be announced during this meeting.

NH Diocesan Priest Retirement Fund During all masses next weekend, you will have a chance to give back to dozens of diocesan priests by supporting the Priests Retirement Trust Fund. These priests have each given many years, often forty or more, in service to God and the Catholic communities of New Hampshire. Last year was the seventh annual collection for this fund and, despite an ongoing difficult economy, parishioners gave generously, with gifts totaling more than $249,000. However the need continues this year. Currently we have 48 priests who are supported by this fund. When you contribute to the Priests Retirement Trust Fund, your gift will go toward helping current and future retired priests. We also ask you to prayerfully consider giving more than a one-time offering though pledged or planned giving. For more information please visit www.catholicnh.org/ourpriests.
