WHO'S READY TO GO TO
THE HOLY LAND?!
Preliminary planning is underway for a possible parish
pilgrimage To Israel! A few parishioners have expressed
an interest, so we'd like to see how much more interest
there is out there. The initial plan is to go early next
summer, June 2018, for a ten day excursion. We will
prayerfully visit all of the major holy places around
Jerusalem and Galilee. The cost, including all travel,
lodging, and food (except lunches) will likely be
somewhere around $3,900 per person. Our weekend
associate, Fr. Mark, would be the spiritual director for this
pilgrimage. As you may know, Fr. Mark teaches Scripture
at our diocesan seminary, and he spent a semester living
in Israel as part of his studies.
A pilgrimage to the Holy Land is often called "the Fifth
Gospel," because it will change the way you read and hear
the Scriptures for the rest of your life. Please email Janet
Payton, [email protected], as soon as possible to
express your level of interest in joining this pilgrimage:
Thinking about it: Not sure if you can go, but would
like more information as it arrives
I'd love to, but...: Very interested in going, but it
depends on certain factors
Sign me up!: Extremely interested; highly likely
you'll go
This weekend is Holy Martyrs Ministry
of Assistance food and donation
weekend. They ask that you please watch
for food sale items that can be donated to
those in need. Though food collection
weekends are the third weekend of each
month, food donations are accepted at anytime. Certain
staples are always needed, like pasta and spaghetti
sauce, cereal, tuna, peanut butter, soups, canned
vegetables. Checks made out to Holy Martyrs with
Ministry of Assistance (MOA) on the memo line are
always welcome and very much appreciated. Thank you
for helping those in need.

10 Things Pope Francis Wants You to Know About the Family (VII)
Beware of “ideological colonization” (part II)
Pope Francis took issue with financially stable nations who lend aid to developing countries,, even saying they
sometimes require concessions that strike echoes of twentieth-century dictatorships.
The process of ideological colonization, the pope said, is not new to our times. “The same was done by the dicta-
tors of the last century. They came with their own doctrine—think of the Balilla (youth groups of facist Italy), think
of the Hitler Youth.”
“Every people has its own culture,” said Francis. “But when imposed conditions come from the imperial colonizers,
they seek to make {peoples} lose their own identity and make a homogeny.” Namely, that every people, every part,
conserves its own identity without being ideologically colonized.”
At his January 21, 2015 weekly general audience, Francis referred again to the new type of colonization, where
some people try to blame Christian families who decide to have many children for problems of poverty around the
world. The problem is an economic system that creates “a culture of disposal” where people can be excluded. This
“is the main reason for poverty, not large families.”

Novena to St. Theresa
A Nine-Day Novena in honor of St. Theresa the Little Flower of the Infant Jesus and of the Holy Face will be prayed at Our
Lady of the Cedars of Mt. Lebanon, Maronite Catholic Church, in Fairlawn beginning on Sat., Sept. 23, and ending on the
Feast Day, Sunday, Oct. 1. On the Feast Day, a Mass will be celebrated at 6:00 p.m. followed by Novena prayers and a
light reception.
Each day, the Novena prayers will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will include a devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. At the conclu-
sion of our prayer, a relic of St. Theresa will be presented for individual blessings. During this prayer, we will include the
intentions of all priests, as well as the intentions of anyone enduring hardships. We will also pray for vocations.
You may send your prayer intentions by email to [email protected] or by regular mail to Our Lady of
the Cedars Church, 507 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road, Fairlawn, OH 44333.
