QUIZWIZ - A HOLISTIC ONLINE NATIONAL LEVEL MANAGEMENTQUIZ ! Round -2
History is about to be re-written.The battle-lines have been drawn again and the King has returned
A great battle will soon begin.
And when the dust settles, a new champion will wear the crown.
ONIDA INDUSTRIES
Onida has been one of the most enduring brands in India in the Consumer Durables space.
Coming from the stable of Mirc Electronics, the company and brand have enjoyed the trust ofmillions of Indians for over 30 years.
As a brand, Onida has always stood for providing the best possible products to the
consumers. Quality has always been a cornerstone in the products we produce, and the
aesthetic appeal of the products has been unmatched. For long, Onida products, with their
unique styling and design have stood out in the midst of all the other products.
Starting with Colour Televisions, Onida has since spread its wings across several categories.
In the consumer electronics space, the product range includes Colour Televisions, LCD TVs,LED TVs, DVD Players and Home Theatre systems. In the Home Appliances space, Onida
Air-conditioners, Microwave Ovens and Washing Machines found their own space in the
market. Besides these, Onida has also launched a whole range of affordable mobile phones.
Being an Indian company, the company understands the unique requirements of the Indian
consumermore than any other company does. This has found expression in so many of the
products that have been launched over the years. This understanding of the consumer is also
one of the strengths of the company that has enabled it to compete in the market.
Some of the path-breaking products in consumer durables have been introduced by Onida.
The Movie TV was an acknowledgement of the widespread use of pen drives across all strata
of the society. Recognizing the potential that this offered, Onidas Movie TV was designed
with a USB port which could directly play music & movies, and display photos. No longer
were any other external devices required as an interface. More importantly, the Movie TV put
the power in the hands of the consumer to decide the choice of media.
The KY Rock LCD TV was another first in India, and maybe the world too! All LCDs in the
market were traditionally low on sound output. Given the thinness of the TV, generating loud
and good sound was a challenge one that no one seemed to be taking up. For Indianshowever, sound is a crucial component of our TV viewing and the 200-300 W that was on

offer from the MNCs was simply not good enough. Onida hence launched the KY Rock with
1000 W of pulsating sound. The product was also designed with Full HD to ensure the best of
viewing experiences.
In the LED TV space, the iCare and iTube have both redefined entertainment. iCare was thefirst LED TV with Anti-Glare technology, reducing UV rays and reducing the glare on the
screen thereby leading to easy viewing. iTube, the latest launch in this segment, is a Smart
3D LED TV based on the popular Android platform. With Dual Processing and a double-
sided Qwerty remote, iTube is a must-have for anyone whos looking for convergence.
The revolution in the otherwise boring DVD category was the Onida Atom. This product was
designed to be a complete multimedia interface by loading it with a USB port, a card reader,
and feather touch buttons. The aesthetics of the Atom was stunning unseen of in this
category. The Atom enabled one to play DVDs, music, movies and pictures from the camera,
camcorder or mobile.
The Microwave segment was the other segment waiting for a break-through to happen, given
the low usage of Indian consumers. Microwaves have largely been used for reheating, with
little cooking done. Using the insight that fear of experimenting with the device was an
obstacle, Onida came up with the Black Beauty which had in-built auto-cook menus. Starting
with 32 menus in the initial launch, it has now been scaled to 123 menus covering a vast
range of cuisines. Thus, at the push of a button, the Black Beauty enabled the consumer to
make delicacies of choice.
In Air-conditioners, Onida was the first company to launch ACs that cooled at extreme
temperatures. Later, based on the insight that the need for instant relief from the summer heat
was an unspoken requirement in India, Onida launched i-cool ACs which had the wor lds
first 5-speed instant cooling. Besides this, the product was also developed with an energy
savings meter. Last season, the Precool AC launched by Onida, whereby one could switch on
the AC from just about anywhere simply by sending a SMS to a precool device, flew off the
shelves.
Innovations have been and will continue to remain the defining feature of the company. However, the belief is that it should not be innovation for innovations sake, but more arising
from consumer insights. The company will strive to continuously increase its understanding
of Indian consumers, and develop products accordingly.
Dare is more than just another quiz, it is a paean to the global village and the elixir that
emerges when churned with the right whisk.
