Aquatics & Recreation

Victoria Conference

Last week I attended a two day conference

held by Aquatics and Recreation Victoria

about Victorian country pools.

The conference covered a number of topics

relating to all types of pools in country

Victoria from the new directions aquatic

facilities are heading in, TLC for ageing

pools, community benefits of aquatic

recreation facilities and providing safer

pools for communities and staff.

Aquatics and Recreation Victoria invited me

to speak at the conference about operating a

swim school in the bush. I spoke about

researching and opening my swim school,

what I included in my lessons and the flow

on effect into the community. I talked about

the Swim-A-Thon and how the Pyramid Hill

community embraced the event so it was a

great success.

On day two our pools manager for the

Loddon Shire, Mr Stobuas, spoke about

some exciting improvements to pools in the

Shire which will hopefully flow into the

Pyramid Hill pool.

I learnt a lot from the other speakers at the

conference and I can not wait to include

some new ideas to my program and pool

season.

Monday Night Netball Purple played blue in the early game and dominated from the beginning. There were some position changes at every quarter and a few players got to show off their talents. Mikayla showed some good form in GA and scored plenty of goals. At the other end there were nice ballet moves on show as Kylie shot for goal, unfortunately it wasn't enough for the blue team as purple won 43 - 16 In the late game pink and red squared off against each other in what turned out to be a well fought out game. The scores were close at every change. Kelvin was engaging in some banter with the umpires but they did what the rest of the players do and ignored him for the most part. Red opened up a match winning lead in the second half and ended up winning 31 - 26 Team Points Purple 20 Red 16 Pink 4 Blue 0

Hello all, I hope everyone enjoyed the recent

rain we have been fortunate to receive.

This week marks 18 months since the

campaign "Dob in a Dealer" was introduced.

To refresh everyone it is directed towards

people who may have information regarding

persons who are dealing illegal drugs and also

people who are producing illegal drugs. In

February 2015 four search warrants were

executed at four separate addresses in Pyramid

Hill, resulting in a substantial amount of

cannabis being located. This was a result of

members of the community taking it upon

themselves to report such activities, and I

commend any person who provides

information. The benefits of providing this

information is three-fold, firstly the

information is acted upon by myself or other

members of Victoria Police to investigate,

secondly Victoria Police are keen to reduce

that availability of illegal drugs to the

community and thirdly the community benefits

with less people becoming addicted to drugs

such as ice and cannabis.

Some people believe that cannabis is a

harmless drug and turn a blind eye to it. Can I

just say that using cannabis can in some cases

be a stepping stone to the pathway of taking

other drugs such as ice, heroin or ampheta-

mines. It is also reported that cannabis can

cause mental illnesses such as schizophrenia,

depression and anxiety. We, as a small

community, need to take a proactive approach

to these illegal drugs, and I ensure you that I

do. If any information is provided to myself or

Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 this

information is treated as confidential, meaning

that your identity is kept a secret and you will

not be required to attend court to give evidence

in any associated court case as a result of

information you provide.

I encourage everyone to help me in making

Pyramid Hill a place where we don’t accept

that drugs have a place in our community. As

always I can be contacted on 54557000.

Bowls

Presentation Night It was a theme of black cats, superstitions, and idiosyn-crasies as the Bowling Club celebrated the conclusion of the 2015-2016 season on Friday 13th It was a great night of fellowship highlighting the successes of our Club with the atmosphere being set from the beginning by a rolling video of photographs taken throughout the year. The DVD created by Helen B was absolutely amazing and certainly entertaining. The Pre-school Catering Committee served up a scrumptious roast meal topped off with the favourite pavlova roll for dessert. It was so Yummmmm. A special thanks to the ‘young ladies’ who waited on the tables. You did a fantastic job over many hours. Following the meal, the presentation of trophies was conducted and included: Ladies’ Singles Champion – Marie Scott Runner-up – Kate Wood. Ladies’ Pairs Champions – Kate Wood & Jean Farrar Runners-up- Glenys Broad and Jenny Emmonson Ladies’ 100 Up – Marie Noelker (Yay!!!) Runner-up – Kate Wood Men’s Singles Champion- Laurie Forde Runner-up – Andy Nikkelson Men’s Club Pairs – Fred Schmidt & Laurie Forde. Runners-up – Lionel Mann & Andy Nikkelson Men’s Club Fours – Fred Schmidt, Laurie Forde, Lionel Mann & Andy Nikkelson Runners-up – Allan Fidler, Alan Jobling, Graham Moon & Bill Boyd. Congratulations to all trophy winners. It was good to see some new and different names on the board this year! Following the presentations, the members engaged in some frivolous activities including learning the newly composed Club Theme Song sung to the tune of La Marseillaise. Although the members sung with gusto, there seemed to be mixed feelings about introducing the singing to a march onto the greens come the next season’s round of Pennant matches! After some enlightening details of the idiosyncratic moves of elite sports people (Rafael Nadal and Jason Day) some of the rituals observed by our own players were demonstrated for members to attempt to identify. .

To conclude the evening, President Marie congratulated and thanked all members for their contributions to the functioning of the Club and each person was presented with a “Pat-on-the-Back Award” as a token of appreciation. A few laughs and the evening was drawn to a close.

Club Song Lyrics

We’re a Club of aging bowlers Our membership is all too few.

Dressed in uniforms looking splendid, Sponsored shirts of red, white and blue. Sponsored shirts of red, white and blue.

Oh, We play in Star Days and tournaments.

Our play is as good as the rest. Winning score in Pennant is our quest As we cope with all our pains and

ailments. God, support our backs and knees.

Lord, help us bend with ease. Bowl on, Roll on;

Greens running true, We’re such a motley crew.

The Seafood Tournament sponsored by

Dave and Deb Domain has been

scheduled for 22nd May.

Annual Meeting: The AGM for

Pyramid Hill Bowling Club will be held

in the Clubrooms on Wednesday, 15th

June commencing at 7:30pm. Please start

giving consideration to nominations for

Board Positions for the next twelve

Pyramid Hill Netball &

Football Club Round 6 - Inglewood v Pyramid

A GRADE

Pyramid started strongly with many turn overs from the defenders. The 2nd quarter saw the goalers position and move well increasing Pyramid’s lead. Pyramid continued to build on their lead throughout the second half, thanks to great feeding from the mid court. A great team effort and a great win! Pyramid Hill 61 d. Inglewood 28 Best – Zoe Kennedy

B GRADE

A fantastic first quarter set up the game for Pyramid Hill with great ball use down the court. Inglewood picked up their game with accurate goaling not allowing for any rebounding. But the third quarter saw Pyramid dominate with Inglewood creating turnovers. In the last Pyramid Hill held on to their lead. Inglewood put up a fight with more accurate goaling although it was not enough to take out the game. A good win girls. Pyramid Hill 47 d. Inglewood 40

Best – Bianca Bourke

C GRADE

Pyramid Hill had an excellent first quarter getting out to an early lead. Inglewood came back strong in the second quarter getting back to a one goal game at half time. But Pyramid picked up their form and continued to increase their lead through the second half. A strong team effort saw the girls take away their first win for the season. Pyramid Hill 38 d. Inglewood 28

Best – Jade Gunther

C RESERVE

A beautiful sunny day at Inglewood and again more new faces took to the court. There were some good passages of play but also a lot of turnovers which allowed Inglewood to get away with a good lead. Pyramid’s goaling improved in the second half and they had some great defensive pressure to get their hands on the ball, but it wasn’t quite enough to close in on Inglewood. Inglewood 38 d. Pyramid Hill 18

Best – Liz Fox

17 & UNDER

Our 17’s once again came up against some strong opposition. The defence end worked tirelessly all game. We haven’t quite been able to gel as a team yet, but it won’t be far away. There were some glimpses of great shooting and driving through the centre court; however Inglewood were just too strong. Keep working girls! Inglewood 53 d. Pyramid Hill 15 Best – Tanisha Golding

15 & UNDER

It was a sunny morning as the girls took the court in Inglewood. The girls had some really great attack and defence. The shooters were fantastic and barely missed all day. A great team effort by everyone and a great win! Good work girls. Pyramid Hill 48 d. Inglewood 19 Best – Amy Murfitt

MINIS

On a beautiful, sunny, winters day in Inglewood the girls stepped on to the court. The game went really quick with the ball being played well all over the court. A lot of excellent defence and great playing from the Pyramid girls who really stepped it up but were unable to conquer the Inglewood side. A great contested game by all.

Best – Hailey Petrowsky

Pyramid Hill Footy Results Pyramid Hill v Inglewood

UNDER 18's

After a string of consecutive losses, this was a very important clash to keep our finals aspirations alive. The energy levels were high pre-game and the boys took that enthusiasm onto the ground, taking a 2 goal lead into the first break. From, there we were dominant in contested ball and showed that when we are at our best, we can challenge the best sides in the competition. The margin continued to increase throughout the game and blew out to 59 points by the final siren. Bailey Goodwin was exceptional, once again claiming best on ground honours. Steve Gunther chimed in with 4 snags in the first half and all the boys played with great team orientation and the result was reward for our hard work. Final Score: Pyramid Hill 16.3 d Inglewood 6.4 Goal Kickers: S. Gunther 4, X. Ryan 3, B. Pickersgill 2, M. Gunther 2, J. Francis, A. Friedberger, B. Goodwin, D Moon, J. RESERVES We started the day well registering the first goal of the day, after that we slowed down and Inglewood started to kick away. All day we would show pockets of brilliance but then go back into our shells. Again our backline stood up under constant peppering. Troy Woolhouse had a brilliant day out and impressed his new club, having to be treated for touch of leather poisoning after the game. Wooly was well backed up by Benny Keath, Mossy and Kerro who also had good games. If we can get a bit of consistency in our game we will be a team to watch in the second half of the season. Final Score: Inglewood 18.12 d Pyramid 6.1 Goal Kickers: L. Southern 2, J. Cooper 1, N. Forbes 1, B. Keath 1, K. Kerrison 1 Best Players: National Hotel Award: T. Woolhouse, Victoria Hotel Award: B. SENIORS We made the trek out to Inglewood on what turned out to be a beautiful autumn day. Skipper Jaryd Wishart won the toss and reminiscent of the 2014 AFL Elimination Final kicked against the breeze. However, we made a better start then Richmond did in that game... After conceding the first goal, we showed great discipline and stuck to our game plan, locking down on our respective opponents and ensuring that we got an early break, leading by 4 goals at quarter time. We then piled on 5 goals to 0 in the second term to take a 60 point lead into the main break. Inglewood came out firing after half time and it was a tight, tough contest but the boys managed to regain the ascendancy and control the final quarter.

Daniel Price wasn’t afraid to acknowledge he looked very similar to Jason Dunstall after his stint at full forward produced 5 goals, whilst Andrew Dobby and Billy Micevski each kicked 4 in the 78 point victory. Final Score: Pyramid Hill 19.16 d Inglewood 7.10 Goal Kickers: D. Price 5, B. Miceveski 4, A. Dobby 4, M. Bateman 2, N. Fitzpatrick 1, B. Gunther 1, J. Loraine 1, P. This year it is going to be a big one as we have the incredibly talented ‘Tyler Hudson’ as our entertainer. So come along and enjoy a meal, good company and awesome entertainment! Early bird tickets are $25 ($35 at the door); so catch up with Rebecca Gunther or any social club committee member for a ticket. Last week was National Volunteer Week, so it’s now time to raise our glasses and to acknowledge the generous contribution of all volunteers at PHFNC! Thank you for your efforts which allow our club to be vibrant and successful.

This weekend we have the league bye

so it’s time for a bit of rest and

relaxation! Enjoy!

On Sunday we hosted the Kelly Shield which comprises six men and three women from six local Clubs. This event has been running for many years. Clubs participating were - Mitiamo, Calivil, Raywood, Locking-ton, Bamawn and us of course. This year, our men came home winners, which they were thrilled about as it has been six years since we have had success. The women’s team was won by Calivil. Well done ladies. It was great to see the course with coverage and the weather conditions didn’t let us down.
