It’s been a huge week here at the house, with 4 new volunteers in the process of being inducted and trained to support Bev, Mitch and Andrew in the running of the press! Week 8 This weeks games were hard fought and entertaining even though ladder positions were unlikely to change. In the 7pm game White were keen to continue their dominance over a Purple team which has struggled to find any consistency, all season and this game was no different. White came out of the blocks fast and scored quickly, by halftime the game was effectively over with White holding a 20 goal lead. To Purples credit they keep having a crack and managed to close the margin by the final whistle. Final score White 48 - Purple 32 In the 8pm game the two teams were at opposite ends of the ladder and while the scores reflected that, on court it was a great game and Red were up and about looking for that elusive first win. Pink have been undefeated all season and continued their perfect record and are premiership favourites. AN INTERESTING FIND - submitted by Helen Stevens

A brass plate with CD Robertson Pyramid on was unearthed on a property recently. This would have been on the shaft of a gig where one stepped up into the gig and there would have been one on each side. Who was CD Robertson and when was he in Pyramid? The mystery was solved from pages of The Pyramid Hill Advertiser: March 1, 1912. Pyramid Coach and Waggon Factory was taken over from Messrs W and J Walden by Messrs Kirk and Robertson. This factory was in Barber St, on left hand side going south and was facing Albert St. In April 1913, NOTICE is hereby given that the partnership hitherto carried on under the name of Kirk and Robertson, Coachbuilders and Wheelwrights at Pyramid Hill, has been dissolved as from the Twelfth (12th) day of March, 1913, the said John Kirk re-tires from the business which in the future will be carried on under the name of C D Robertson; by the said Clarence David Robertson. In October, 1913, Mr C Watson, Kelly St, Pyramid Hill in addition to his new shop, will shortly have one of the latest regulation bakery wagons, in use around Pyramid. It is being built at CD Robertson’s carriage works and when finished it should prove an excellent advertisement for both the owner and builder. February 27 1914, C D Robertson MLC, the Pyramid Wheel and Waggon Doctor will exchange for a small helping of the needful over 30 new and secondhand Vehicles of all descriptions, including Open and Hooded Abbott and Double-seated Buggies, 5 really handsome Gigs, and a whole host of Carts and Waggons that you can place your own value on. All kinds of Implements and Vehicles repaired or replaced with new. September 18 1914, Fire at Pyramid, the most serious that has occurred here for a number of years. The building was a large one known as Albiston’s “Charing Cross Coffee Palace,” and until recently it was owned by Mr A E Taylor, who for a good many years occupied it as a pharmacy, but between whom and Mr C D Robertson negotiations had just been completed for purchase. The latter had recently added to the building, which contained twelve rooms. April 25 1919 C D ROBERTSON, Coachbuilder, Pyramid has sold the Coachbuilding business in Pyramid Hill to Mr P J LACEY, and within the next 7 days will have to clear all stock out of the premises. A large number of New and Secondhand Gigs, Buggies and other goods to place at reduced rates. Call early. December 1920, P J Lacey wished to announce to the public that he had a new and “Up-to-date” Drop Tyring Platform at his factory and will undertake to cut all tyres at shortest notice. No wheel too large or small, no wheel dished by tight cutting. A full staff of Smiths, Wheelrights, Coach painters and trimmers employed. New gigs on hand. Shooing done with efficiency.

Lynton has a broad experience of work which has included pastoring churches as a Baptist minister, chaplaincy in schools, working with homeless youth and for the past 30 years has been travelling throughout Australia as a pop up artist/storyteller inspiring people of all ages and from all walks of life. Pyramid Hill Footy

Our trip down the road to Calivil saw our Under 18's come home with a

convincing win with Raids kicking the last goal before the final siren. The

Reserves continued with their winning streak but unfortunately the Seniors

started slowly and we were forced to play catch up in a game where the reigning Premiers outplayed us and

simply would not allow us to take control of the game. This week all

teams will have to be on their toes and firing from the beginning as we take on

YCW Eagles at Mitchell Park.

Under 18s Under 18s With a plethora of unavailability’s the boys were down to

the bare 18 this week. However that didn’t stop us playing an exceptional

brand of football. From the first bounce we were up and about and showed great control and skills in

terrific conditions at Calivil. With a six goal buffer at the first change we

continued to increase the margin at every break. And we did not take the

foot off the pedal at all throughout the match. The final margin, 151 points in a brilliant team performance led by an

unbelievable 15 goals to Reece Blake and if he had of kicked straight he

Reserves The reserves have really found some good form, up against Calivil this weekend it was a very tough contest. First quarter both teams only scored a goal each, setting up a tough task for the game and at half time the boys

Seniors The Demons were quick to fire out of

the blocks kicking the first four goals and it was bleak signs for the boys,

trailing by 27 points half way through the first term. However, we steadied the

ship and kicked three unanswered goals to close the margin to 8 points at the

first change. The second term was a tight tussle with both teams trading goal for goal and the margin was under a

goal as both sides headed inside for the long break. Calivil showed their class

during the third term and the boys were unable to apply the pressure that had

been the catalyst for our victories in the first six rounds. Our ball use wasn’t great and the Demons made the most of

our turnovers – controlling the remainder of the game and running out

35 point winners. A disappointing result, but one we will learn from and be

better because of as we look forward to our clash with the Maiden Gully YCW Eagles next week. Gully last Sunday.

Report A Grade - The first quarter saw the Doggies come out firing, putting on pressure and

showing fantastic game play down the court. Many turnovers and accurate

shooting seen the girls only a few goals down at quarter time. They maintained

their momentum to only be right behind Calivil at half time. In the last half, a few

silly mistakes rattled the girls and they came away without a win. Congratula-tions to Tess Hampson who made her A

grade debut against Calivil. Well done to Abbey Dingwall for best on court.

Pyramid Hill 29 defeated by Calivil 44.

B Grade Both teams started off well, with closely contested balls down the court and great defensive pressure. At quarter time, it was 13 all, with Lisa Mitchell and Casey Kent jumping into defence and they gelled well together with the rest of the team. At half time, the Pyramid girls were down by 1 and Megan and Amber shot accurately and beautifully in the third quarter going up by 1. Coming into the last quarter, the Calivil girls really stepped it up; rebounding strongly and contesting every ball. Their intensity won them the quarter and they ran away with the win. Well done to Lauren Driscoll for best on court. Pyramid Hill 37 defeated by Calivil 45. C Grade Another great game from the C grade girls against the tough Calivil. Although unsteady at the start, the Doggies came back in the following quarters with accurate shooting by Jessa and Eimer. Excellent pressure and defence from Caity, Georgia and Casey who managed to get some great turnovers. The mid court was strong with Becca and Morgan passing beautifully down the court into the ring. The girls had a fantastic game but unfortunately, Calivil came out on top. Congratulations to Caity for being best on court. Pyramid Hill 48 defeated by Calivil 46.

C Reserve The Ressie girls faced the strong, quick Calivil girls on Saturday and started off sloppy, with many errors in the first half but in the second half, the goaling dream team, Zoe, Katelyn and Mikayla worked well around the ring against Calivil’s tough defenders. Even under the pressure, the Ressie girls were able to pick up another win for the season. Fantastic team work by all! Mikayla McMahon was the stand out for the day. Pyramid Hill 29 defeated Calivil 27.

Best on court went to Amy Murfitt and Teagan Stewart, great work girls! Pyramid Hill 37 defeated by Calivil 53. Next week girls!! Under 15 The girls started the day with great excitement, a bit congratulations to Keeley for playing her first game for the U15s after 3 years off the court. All girls played great in both our attack and defensive ends, with our goalies coming into the game with sharp shooting, mids with great feeding of the ball into the ring and the defenders taking some lovely intercepts. Great win girls! Well done to Sammi Moon and Kara Farrell for a fantastic game. Pyramid Hill 66 defeated Calivil 20. Minis The two mini’s sides were evenly matched today, which showed over the course of the game. Our girls started slow but gradually built over the four quarters and showed great effort, especially in the second half. They worked really hard in the second half to force some awesome turnovers and got the ball into the shooters. Well done to Hayley who was best on the court!

Anglican Dinner Report Submitted by Tom Burrowes

A keen turnout on a chilly May night for the Anglican Parish annual gathering where Bill Boyd arranged for Professor Ian Plimer to give the address. Within the Bears Lagoon, Boort and Pyramid Hill Anglican Parish over 100 parishioners and interested folk travelled into Yarrawalla. The evening started with welcoming sherries and nibbles. After grace led by Rev. Pam Lawry a lovely dinner of roast beef spuds and vegies and dessert. MC Alex Mountjoy opened proceedings and introduced Professor Ian Plimer - Australia’s best known geologist. Ian gave a fascinating potted history of western civilization – ranging from the Minoans and Greek civilisations through the rise of Christianity - and the characteristics and many benefits it has brought to us and which are with us to this day to improve our way of life. Interestingly, this included the rise of song and music into a more defined way. Ian described the translation of the King James version of the Bible as one of the best successes ever achieved by a committee! He skilfully wove the (natural) climate changes over both vast geological time epochs and then through more recent history – noting the melting of the ice sheet over Scandinavia and parts of Europe through the warming time starting some 15,000 year ago - long before the industrial revolution. He explained that sea levels rise and fall naturally – and so too does the land level - which makes drawing conclusions hazardous. The variations in climate in Europe are substantial, and of course it is considered that indige-nous folk walked to Tasmania across the land bridges when the earth was very much colder some 15,000 years ago. This time is a mere blink in geological time!

Ian told us that “one volcano can ruin your whole day” – with its massive natural emissions. He moved on to express concern as to Australia’s declining educational standards and stressed the importance of scientific evidence as the basis and the importance of critical questioning. He said that thinking about and challenging what we are being taught is healthy and essential for good learning. Being prepared to speak up and engage in healthy debate. The declining standard of public and political debate in Australia was lamented. A keen round of questioning included - can the Earth’s magnetic poles “flip”? - Hmm…yes…and consequences would not be good - fortunately this is unlikely in our lifetime! Solar flares also represent an unknown source of cosmic instability. MC Alex did an excellent job and thanked Ian for his stimulating discussion. (Ian also represents Hancock Prospecting Pty. Ltd. - a partner exploring for gold in the East Loddon district on the Four Eagles Gold Project west of Mitiamo, where work continues to outline its gold prospectivity.) Ian expressed his gratitude for the welcoming and hospitality. The evening drew to a close well after 10pm with a rousing thank you to the team which provided wonderful food and good cheer for all to enjoy.

Dear Editor, I am considering whether or not to get connected to the internet via NBN. I have a mobile phone, tablet and a laptop computer and am about to get a computer for my home. Perhaps you could hold a forum to find out what people suggest is the best way to cover the internet situation in the Pyramid District as I am sure I am not the only one who is facing this quandary. I have my tablet and mobile phone with Amaysim and use the hotspot from that for my computing needs and also have a landline which is needed for my emergen-cy Mepacs connection between the two phones, I am pay about $60 per month. Would anyone who has had experience with the NBN and the various providers bundling etc. please send in information so that we can learn from your successes or failures. Looking forward to a good discussion on the pros and cons of NBN, Internet vs. hotspot. Regards Joan Harley
