New Student Leaders at
Pyramid Hill College
It was great to see so many parents, friends and community members come along to our Assembly last Friday to witness the induction of our school leaders at. Mayor, Cheryl McKinnon and School Council President, Rowan Broad, presented the 2018 leaders with their badges and wished them well for the year ahead.
The audience was entertained by the F-1 class singing The Crocodile Song, Year 2,3 and 4 students demonstrating their Indonesian language skills and our very talented musician, Mary Joy Estrella who sang a stirring rendition of ‘Climb’ by Miley Cyrus. As Friday was a ‘No Bully’ day, Laura Poole and Sophie Twigg shared their thought provoking writing on ‘Bullies’ and how we can all take action to ensure that our school is ‘Bully’ free. Our parent helpers Robyn Spowart, Kim Lister and Casey Woodbine were thanked for their enormous commitment to our F-6 Swimming Program and all students were awarded their swimming level certificate. A number of awards were then presented to many of our talented students in a range of areas. Congratulations to all leaders and students who received awards. Our school leaders did a magnificent job leading the assembly and a big thank you to everyone who assisted in the organisation.

What is a Ton?
People sometimes talk about ships weighing so many tons, with the mistaken idea that a ton of ship is much the same as a ton of coal. A ship's tonnage has nothing to do with tons of weight.
Henry VII. introduced the ''Navigation Act," the first of its kind, by which he prohibited the importation into England of Bordeaux wine in any vessels except those owned by his lieges. There was much trade in those days between England and Bordeaux, which had once been an English possession, and wine was the principal commodity carried. It came to us in large barrels called tuns. Ever since then English ships have been measured by tunnage, or, as we now
call it, "tonnage", capacity, that is to say by the number of barrels of Bordeaux wine which they could stow in their holds. The unit has been adopted by all the navies and the merchant fleets of the world, and represents measurement, not weight.

FoRT
FoRT delves into the art of play and the creation of worlds from everyday
objects. Two strange characters appear hunting for whispers of adventure. In a series of vignettes a couch, table, cushions, sheets and broomsticks transform into rockets, trampolines, cliffs and tents… places to explore. Images appear and disappear.
FoRT is full of ridiculous clowning, spectacular acrobatics and poetic visual imagery which celebrates the kind of creative genius that has been known to turn lounge rooms into volcanoes, trees into castles and cardboard boxes into
racing cars.

Your Local Paper
The Governor in one of the American States hands this bouquet to the local paper:
Each year the local paper gives anything from $10 to $500 in free advertising space to the community in which it is located.
No other agency in the town can or will do this. The editor, in proportion to his means. does more for his own town than any other two men. He ought to be supported, not because you like him personally or admire his writings, but because a local paper is the best investment a local community can make. It may not be brilliantly edited, or overcrowd-ed with thoughts, but financially it is of more benefit to the community than the teacher or preacher. Understand though, I do not mean morally or intellectually, but financially. From Margaret Williamson

Sunday 25th March, 1pm at Sunday 25th March, 1pm at Sunday 25th March, 1pm at Sunday 25th March, 1pm at the footy sheds.the footy sheds.the footy sheds.the footy sheds.
The SALT program is used to transform Australian Culture through Sport. Why we (SALT) exist - because our society is in crisis - issues of drug and alcohol abuse, violence, suicide, discrimination, mental illness, racism
and addiction pervade our culture. Because sporting clubs are at the hub of every community through-out Australia and provide the perfect networks to facilitate sustaina-
ble cultural change.
So the football and netball club are inviting the community to a BBQ lunch for $5 per person at 12 noon,
followed by the presentation which should take an hour. Hope to see you.
