SALT Sport & Life TrainingSport & Life TrainingSport & Life TrainingSport & Life Training
The Pyramid Hill Football Netball Club are holding a
SALT (Sport & Life Training) Presentation on
Sunday 25th March, 1pm at the footy sheds.
The SALT program is used to transform Australian Culture through Sport.
Why we (SALT) exist - because our society is in crisis - issues of drug and alcohol
abuse, violence, suicide, discrimination, mental illness, racism and addiction
pervade our culture.
Because sporting clubs are at the hub of every community throughout Australia
and provide the perfect networks to facilitate sustainable cultural change.
So the football and netball club are inviting the community to a
BBQ lunch for $5 per person at 12 noon,
followed by the presentation which should take an hour.
Hope to see you.

Get Ya Gear Out—Photo Shoot
This Saturday, the local VFF branch will be hosting a community photo shoot to record a moment in time. All members of the district are invited to come bringing equipment & machinery they currently use for a line up in front of the hill with community members in the foreground. It doesn't need to be a show'n shine, just as it is will be fine. Try and be there with your gear at 10am so we can organise the line up for an 11am photo. Even if you cannot bring any gear to be part of the line up, please still come & be part of the photo. Those who attend will be able to obtain a digital copy of the picture. I am aware there are other events on that day, so if people need to keep moving that's all right & for those who are able to stay & catchup there is a free BBQ lunch & drinks. The VFF has impressed me greatly in their ability to assist individual farmers with issues, please use this opportunity to chat to them one on one about issues that are affecting you. Ritchie Bros Auctions has sponsored the BBQ, have a chat to them about the service they provide. It has been suggested by a few that Pyramid Hill could have a community clearing sale, maybe they could help bring many bidders to the area? Worth asking the question! WFI have backed the event by providing insurance. These guys are very approacha-ble & more than willing to be of service. The Lions club are doing the cooking & supplying the port-a-loo's. Drew is organising some games for little & big kids with prizes supplied by Echuca CIH & Haeuslers. Thanks to Geoff Burke for allowing his paddock to be used. Gear can be left on site Friday & Saturday night if it helps. RSVP to the BBQ will help make sure there is enough food & drinks. I hope you can be part of this memorable moment and encourage representatives of businesses that support your business to attend, because without them, we wouldn't thrive.

Seniors
Friday luncheon this Friday 16th - theme being St. Patrick’s Day $10 for two course meal – Irish Stew and all else Irish. As stated incorrectly in our little newsletter, there is no need to bring anything – all is provided. Just something for the raffle. Card Bingo on Fridays becoming more popular – we welcomed two newcomers – Alma & Jani, who won a few chocolates. Each very quick to learn and had a laugh along the way. Heads up for a couple of dates to think about Blumes Fashion – Monday 28th May and our fifth Friday BBQ coincides with Good Friday. Still going ahead – salmon patties, chicken kebabs etc. will be provided. Those coming, please bring a salad and sweet to share. All welcome – games afternoon to follow – carpet bowls, UNO, whatever. Echuca/Moama Performing Arts group’s production this year is “Phantom of the Opera”. Expressions of interest are sought = May 25th – June 9th. Cost $44. If it is anything like last year’s performance, it will be well worth it! Cards – best with 5 wins each at Card Bingo – Bill, Zelma, Marj Smith.
Next Committee meeting – Monday 19th March at 10 am. I hear Macca s settling in at the Hostel and Wanda is recovering quickly in Kerang Hospital.
Birthdays in March – Jeanette Carroll 22nd, Rosco 23rd, Bernie 25th, Harriet Schmidt 29th, Jess Amos 30th - best wishes to all for a lovely day. See you at one (or all) of our activities.
Meanwhile – stay well, stay safe

Saturday Pennant : Last Saturday the Preliminary finals were played at Barham Services with Kerang playing Leitchville in Division 1, Cohuna Golf White playing Cohuna in Division 2 and Barham Services Gold playing Wakool in Division 3. Results were: Division 1 -Kerang defeated Leitchville I rink up 81-66. Division 2 – Cohuna Golf White defeated Cohuna 3 rinks up 82-42. Division 3 – Wakool defeated Barham Services Gold 1 rink up 70-61. The Grand final will be held next Saturday at Cohuna with Division 1 Cohuna Golf playing Kerang, Division 2 Barham Services playing Cohuna Golf White and Division 3 Wakool playing Kerang Blue. Good bowling to all clubs.
60 And Over: The 60 and Over competition has come to an end for this Season with the sorry state of affairs of our Club not being able to field a team for the last few rounds. So let’s finish them off and send them out with the
last couple of dead chook jokes. Q.
Why did the rubber chicken cross the road? A. She wanted to stretch her legs. Q. Why did the Roman chicken cross the road?
A. She was afraid someone would Caesar! Thanks for taking on the role of organizer, Al, and thanks to those who played earlier in the season. Hopefully we can rally some troops next year.
A/C Tournament: Last Wednesday we hosted an Any Combination Fours Star Tournament sponsored by Moama Bowling Club and Riverina Bowls. Finally, we were blessed with some beautiful weather and a good number of players, as we have had to cancel three tournaments earlier this season. It was a magnificent day weatherwise and great to hear the happy dulcet tones of the players on the greens. Thanks to Allan and his team of workers who had the place looking immaculate. At this stage, special mention should be given to Robyn who scooted the greens on the seat of her pants while she trimmed the edges with a pair of scissors!! That’s dedication! Was she just being over particular or was it the sound of the scissor snipping that willed her along??? Or was she just playing the scenario of having her locks cut off on Friday over and over and over again? Good luck with that, Robyn.
The tournament players had plenty to play for with generous sponsorship prizes from Moama Bowling Club and Echuca Riverina Bowls & Leisure Wear on offer. Winners on the day were the Calivil team with Skip, Coral Maxted. Runners-Up were the Cohuna Golf team (which included our own Lorraine D as a fill-in player- perhaps she provided the home ground advantage) with Skip Gwen Campbell in charge. They won on a count back from Yvonne Eckhart’s Cohuna Golf team. The Best Last Game was a tie between the Wedderburn team and the Val Morris led Cohuna team. A draw of the cards to determine a winner resulted in Cohuna taking the prize. Prizes were awarded to Lucky Lead, Second, Third and Skip and two best Rolls to the Ditch. Along with that, eight raffle prizes were distributed so there were a number of folk who went home with more in their pockets than when they came. A number of the prizes were generously donated by our own members. Thank you. A very big thank you, too, to Jan as Tournament Secretary and Marie S. and Glenys as Match Committee for their work in organising the day and ensuring that everything ran like clockwork. Not only did the players go home after enjoying a great day on the greens, they went home with their tummies full of delicious tucker. The Catering Committee excelled themselves. Instead of the usual cold meat and salad or sandwiches and fruit salad, the players were treated to Kate’s Cuisine which consisted of hot baked potatoes with a wide choice of toppings followed by a choice from eight different desserts. Nola’s pavlova would score a perfect ten on the MKR ratings and it perfectly complimented the other array of sweets created by Kate. As if that was not enough, they were also treated to sandwiches, sponges and fruit platters for afternoon tea. Well done to the sponge makers- they were top class yet again. With everyone chipping in we could easily show those competi-tors in MKR or the Great Australian Bake Off a thing or two about catering. It was magnificent – enough to make anyone want to take up bowls! Well done to everyone who helped in any small or mighty manner. The comments were bountifully overflowing with praise. I know that the people come to play bowls but they also certainly come to enjoy the food. Our reputation for a great feast is still well cemented.
Congratulations to our
Championship Pairs
Representatives. Beau and Graham and Kate and Jean so wonderfully represented our Club at Northern District level last Sunday after having already won the Club Pairs Championships. At Club level, Kate and Jean defeated Marie S and Glenys while Beau and Graham defeated Fred and Bill. Both games were tightly contested and just amazing to watch. The men fought it out to the very last end with only two shots separating them after the required 18 ends of play. The Northern District matches were held on Sunday under not so pleasant hot and windy conditions. Beau and Graham M beat Gunbower in their first round 22-18 and then had to front up again for another 18 ends to play Cohuna. This time the result was not quite as we would have liked as they lost 10-17 but their tenacity and endurance was admirable. Jean and Kate moved straight into the second round as Gunbower did not have a team. Their match against Cohuna got off to a slow start but they clawed their way back into contention before succumbing 12-20. Well done to both the guys and the gals. You represent-ed your Club with poise and dignity. You can be proud of your achieve-ments, as your club is proud of you.
Moama Bus Trip
Following the Rock & Roll Night our next social function will be the annual bus trip to Moama Bowling Club on Sunday 8th April. The bus will leave the Clubhouse at 11:00am so that we arrive at Moama in time for lunch. Please place your name on the sheet at the Bowling Club to express your intention to attend. All folk welcome to come along for a pleasant day out. It would be great to have some support from the Barefoot Bowlers.
Tournaments: With the main part of the bowling season all but over there are numerous tournaments around in the district and beyond. All members are encouraged to assist by putting up their hands to play in one or two. Please lighten the load of our Tournament Secretaries by volunteer-ing your services. Let Jan or Lionel know of your availability.

Loads of New Books - This week Russell, our librarian who comes to refresh the shelves and take your suggestions of what titles you would like each Tuesday from 11:30am-
1:00pm brought up 5 whole crates of books! You may have noticed that both the fiction and non-fiction selections were looking a bit light in the past week, with books not borrowed in the last 12 months being taken away. The shelves are now mostly fully stocked with new and exciting titles. The DVD selection was also refreshed. Maga-zines are being borrowed as quickly as they come in these days, with the latest copies of each of our subscriptions being hot items to look out for.
PROGRAMMES UPDATE:
Rhyme Time! with Kirsty Orr: Week 2 saw this exciting new programme build in popularity and in strength! We thank Kirsty for her energy and enthusiasm in bringing music and rhythm activities for babies and pre-school aged children. What fun! More positive feedback from participants was provided. During school terms: Fridays, 9:10am-9:30am. No charge. Before Storytime.
Be Connected: It’s been inspiring and encouraging to have people who have little or no experience using comput-ers/tablets begin to become familiar with digital technology through the Be Connected programme. Those who already use computers have found it beneficial to fill knowledge gaps in areas that they are already familiar, while learning new skills in other areas. I do look forward to gently assisting more people to feel comforta-ble to get on board the digital train and take a journey of discovery in exploring the internet and connecting with loved ones. Do you know a friend, family member or community member that could benefit from this?

Get Ready to Party
Where: Pyramid Hill Bowling Club When: Saturday 24th March Time: 7:00pm
Cost: $20 Theme: The Fifties—Rock’n Roll (tables of 8 preferred but not essential)
Now we are onto the count down until March 24th when we are celebrating and rocking the Clubhouse. If you haven’t already got your tickets there are still a few left and we would love to have your company. The Justuss duo, who are providing the music and singing, come with a fabulous reputation. Of course, for those who can remember, the fifties was a great decade of energetic dancing which involved quick movements and fancy footwork as creative steps were executed to the rock and roll tunes. If your body can no longer cope with such energetic movements, foot tapping and head nodding are still in vogue and totally permissible. Cost of the night is only $20 which includes a very yummy supper. Drinks are available at Club bar prices. You may just be lucky enough to win on the spinning wheels or you may grab a prize from the stash of goodies available. Dressing up and dancing are not requirements for a great night but would no doubt enhance the night of entertainment. Be there, or be square. Contact Marie S. (0429 703 816),
Lionel (0477 960 826) or Marie N (0428 506 691) for tickets.
