Generation of Ideas for Ancillary Product 2) Poster

Themes• Dark/Thriller Theme – This type of theme connotes danger and uneasiness. I feel that this

type of theme links well with a horror and suspense themed type of trailer due to the dramatic storyline which I aim to reach. Dark, thriller themes are becoming more popular in TV soaps, this is because it gives the element of surprise to the audience, therefore including this theme will be attractive to the audience.

• Romantic Theme – The theme of romance is very popular amongst the young target audience (15-30) who may be watching my trailer and reading the poster. Through the use of romance I can create an interesting drama piece which audiences will find gripping through the use of a ‘love triangle’ which audiences find entertaining. Due to romance being so popular I feel that the audiences will start to aspire to be like the characters therefore then becoming ‘attached’ to the narrative making it more popular.

• Humour Theme – The theme of humour is very popular for audiences all ages, this is because it makes light hearted jokes which many people find funny and entertaining. This theme would allow me to create many different storylines which the audience would find funny and may even become attached to the programme to then keep watching.

Each Tagline will be positioned in the middle of the poster, this is because it is then the focus to the audience and is what attracts the audience to then watch the trailer/series.

Tagline• “Who Killed Abbie?” – This tagline forces the audience to try to answer the

question which will be on their minds. The use of the question as to ‘who killed’ means that the audience will want to watch the programme due to the possible characters that would be involved, therefore they will want to know the types of characters there are.

• “Murder! Who is the killer?” – The use of the first word ‘murder’ instantly attracts the audience as the use of the word is snappy and tells the audience exactly what happened without revealing anything to them. The use of the question enables the audience to also wonder about who the possible people are therefore they will want to watch the series.

• “The Dark Secret is Revealed” – This statement to the audience makes them further wonder about what is revealed and who it involves. This tagline also links with the theme of dark/Thriller due to the unanswered question which laves it on a cliff-hanger.

• Female who is killed with the suspects around looking at her from different angles – This instantly gives the audience the information that they may need to know as the poster includes all of the characters who are of main interest in the series. Using all the characters also helps the audience to understand who is involved. Each image will be taken as a long shot, this is because the audience can then see that the suspects are fully facing the main character.

• Females top half of her head with the suspects in a line at the top of the page – This idea connotes that the dead person is thinking about the suspects in her mind, therefore making it easier for the audience to understand what is happening. The suspects will look suspicious so that it is not obvious as to who is the ‘killer’ is. Each image will be taken as a mid-close up this then allows the audience to fully see the characters with their different expressions. The main characters however will be as an extreme close up as I will just be including half of her face.

• The dead girl in the centre with images of the suspects around with characters labelled onto them – This idea has the suspects around the dead girl with characters having words across their image like ‘fake’ and ‘liar’, using this idea means that the audience will have to decide who killed the girl before knowing anything about the suspects, but by putting characters over them makes the audience feel as though they already know who would be the killer. The images will be taken using a mid-close up, this is because the expressions of the characters are then clear and leads to a more ‘chilling’ effect for the poster.

Other• Synergy with social media – This creates different advertising through

cross media production. Using this means that it will create discussion between the audience, using this will also mean that it will advertise the social media. Including the ‘hashtag’ also means that this can be used globally through the use of mainly twitter.

• Synergy with the magazine – This help to inform (Katz) the audience where they can find further content regarding the articles which they may enjoy if they found the storyline interesting.

• Point of call information – This is very important because it enables the show to tell its audience when and where the series will be shown to them, therefore it is essential for a poster to have it as the series has not yet been released therefore gives the audience new information.
