“The heavens declare the glory of God.” – Psalm 19:1

I spoke about taking this picture in a homily on the feast of the Epiphany. You can see our Church and the constellation Orion the Hunter (circled in black) above it. The three stars in a row are known as Orion’s Belt (yellow arrows). From our perspective, the upper left star is Betelguese (circled in red). This comes from an Arabic word which means “the giant’s shoulder.”

Scientists classify this star as a red supergiant. It is 640 light years from earth. If it would explode into a supernova and we would see it tomorrow, the event actually occurred 640 years ago. Its diameter is approximately 860 million miles. That is, 950 times larger than our sun. In other words, if it replaced the sun in our solar system, its outer edge would be beyond the orbit of Jupiter. Mind boggling.

I encourage you to take a look up. Search for this constellation. Face south and look up. Gaze and wonder! The heavens are filled with mystery. What appears as a little speck in the sky is incomprehensibly large. We are such a small part of the vast universe, yet, the Creator of this immense universe, knows You and loves You!

Our God sent his Son into this universe to rescue and save us. In fact, something even more mysterious, is that, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, through grace, dwells inside of us! May our reflection on the beauty of nature open us to experience the glory of God.

Notas del Pastor “Los cielos cuentan la gloria del Señor” – Salmo 19:1 Hablé sobre tomar esta foto en una homilía en la fiesta de la Epifanía. Puedes ver nuestra Iglesia y la constelación de Orión el Cazador (en un círculo negro) sobre ella. Las tres estrellas seguidas se conocen como el Cinturón de Orión (flechas amarillas). Donation of Altar Flowers

Flowers beautify the sacred space of our church and are a gift to God and those who attend our Masses.

Many people have special days in the year which they commemorate. Flowers on the altar of Our Lady of Mercy

Church can fittingly mark anniversaries, the birth of a child, marriage, baptism or death, or may be used as an expression

of joy of thanksgiving at any time. We are trying something new for our parish. We will begin

with a flower donation once a month. When flowers are given in thanksgiving or as a memorial, an announcement

will be made at all weekend masses noting the memorial or occasion for the flowers. Currently, the suggested donation

for Altar Flowers is $40.

If you would like to donate flowers, please contact the parish office today 610-252-7381 to reserve your date.

Due to the increased cases of influenza in our area, the Bishop has suspended the Exchange of Peace and the Reception of Holy Communion from the Chalice in all Churches of the Diocese of Allentown until further notice. It is hoped that this will

reduce the spread of these viruses. In other words, during the mass, this introduction will be omitted, “Let us offer one another a sign of Christ’s peace.” We will move directly to sing the Lamb of God. We will only distribute Holy Communion under the Sacred Host. As a reminder, the Sacred Host contains the “whole Christ” -Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.

always imprinted in my heart by love, I may also have it ever on my lips, by invoking it in all my necessities. If the devil tempts me, Thy name will give me strength

to resist him; if I lose confidence, Thy name will animate me to hope; if I lose confidence, Thy name will animate me to hope; if I am in affliction, Thy

name will comfort me, by reminding me of all Thou hast endured for me. If I find myself cold in Thy love,

Thy name will inflame me by reminding me of the love Thou hast shown me. I have fallen into so many sins, because I did not call on Thee; from henceforth Thy name shall be my defense, my refuge, my hope,

my only consolation, my only love. Thus do I hope to live, and so do I hope to die, having Thy name always

on my lips.
