Marriage SCHEDULES CLERGY SACRAMENTS My Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy and Mary Queen of Peace, May the Peace and Joy of our Risen Lord be with you. This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. It is the fiftieth day after Easter Sunday where we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus our Risen Lord. This mystery is beautifully narrated in the book of the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:131) The importance of this feast is also mentioned in the Catechism of the Catholic Church as follows: The Church was made manifest to the world on the day of Pentecost by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The gift of the Spirit ushers in a new era in the dispensation of the mysterythe age of the Church, during which Christ manifests, makes present, and communicates his work of salvation through the liturgy of His Church, until He comes.” (CCC, #1076) The removal of the Paschal Candle from the sanctuary reminds us that Pentecost winds up the Season of Easter and leads us back to the liturgy of the Ordinary Time. My dear friends, slowly but surely, stage by stage we are getting back again to our ordinary day to day activities of life after the Covid-19 pandemic. In this scenario, what does the feast of Pentecost mean to us? Let us not forget that Pentecost is also the birthday of the Church. Church is not mere buildings and structures but an assembly of the called out peopleof God. When the Disciples were in fear and anxiety after the unexpected, tragic death of Jesus, the Holy Spirit descended upon them and empowered them to go and proclaim the Gospel to the world. After Pentecost, the Disciples came out of the Upper Room and marched towards all four corners of the world proclaiming the Good News to the poor. Some of them even became Martyrs for the sake of the Kingdom. My dear friends, as the world is tormented and shattered by the agony and misery created by the Covid-19, let us also pray to the Holy Spirit asking Him to empower and strengthen us to be strong in our FAITH in the midst of these difficult times. Let our homes be Upper Roomsfor the Holy Spirit to descend upon us and after this Lock-Down, we shall also go forth to the world among our broken brothers and sisters to proclaim the message of Christ s love to them. I wish a happy feast of Pentecost to all of you, Fr. Ashok Stephen OMI

My Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy and Mary Queen of Peace, May the Peace and Joy of our Risen Lord be with you. This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. It is the fiftieth day after Easter Sunday where we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus our Risen Lord. This mystery is beautifully narrated in the book of the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1–31) The importance of this feast is also mentioned in the Catechism of the Catholic Church as follows: The Church was made manifest to the world on the day of Pentecost by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

The

gift of the Spirit ushers in a new era in the “dispensation of the mystery” the age of the Church, during which Christ manifests, makes present, and communicates his work of salvation through the liturgy of His Church, “until He comes.” (CCC, #1076) The removal of the Paschal Candle from the sanctuary reminds us that Pentecost winds up the Season of Easter and leads us back to the liturgy of the Ordinary Time. My dear friends, slowly but surely, stage by stage we are getting back again to our ordinary day to day activities of life after the Covid-19 pandemic. In this scenario, what does the feast of Pentecost mean to us? Let us not forget that Pentecost is also the birthday of the Church. Church is not mere buildings and structures but an assembly of the “called out people” of God. Let our homes be “Upper Rooms” for the Holy Spirit to descend upon us and after this Lock-Down, we shall also go forth to the world among our broken brothers and sisters to proclaim the message of Christ’s love to them. I wish a happy feast of Pentecost to all of you,

Fr. Ashok Stephen OMI

Daily Mass Intentions will continue to be offered by Father Jhay or Father Stephen during their daily sol-emn Mass. If you want to offer Mass for family or friends, please call the parish office to schedule.

“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have

nothing to eat.” MATTHEW 15:32

“Our desire for the Bread of Life awakens in all the faithful a longing to be more a part of the mystery

of the Lord’s death and resurrection, the essence of our Lord’s gift to us on the night before He died for

us.” BISHOP JAIME SOTO

Friends in Christ,

I am proud of your response to the challenges this pandemic has posed to our parish. You have been

prayerful, patient, encouraging and generous. Father Stephen and I are extremely grateful. Please remain united and continue to pray for those who are most

affected by the pandemic, including the sick, healthcare workers and those who are most vulnera-ble. As we transition back to Mass, be patient with

the guidelines and protocols we must implement to be compliant. It is important more than ever to work to-gether as we always have. I look forward to seeing

you all soon. God Bless You. Father Jhay Galeon, Pastor

In response to the economic impact of COVD-19, The Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Sacra-mento has activated an online giving option for parishioners to contribute to their parish offertory during this challenging time in the life of the Church. All contributions through this online link will be re-mitted in their entirely to Our Lady of Mercy Parish. This online option also provides you with a thank you as well as confirmation of your gift for your records. To Give Online go to:

Coming Back to the Table Diocesan Guide to the Public Mass Celebration.

The Eucharist is an essential part of the life of every bap-tized Catholic, and the Church has the obligation to properly administer the sacrament to the faithful. Ensuring the health of each person in our Church is a collective re-sponsibility, we all need to make prudent and practical actions coming back together, mindful of the role we play in preventing the further spread of COVID-19. It is im-portant to give serious consideration to the safety recom-mendations given by medical experts, local, county and state officials. Weekend Mass will resume June 13/14 and daily Mass Monday June 15th at 7:30am in the church. The use of masks and gloves are strongly encouraged for all attending Mass. Those over 65 or with a vulnerable condition should shel-ter in place. Each person must make a prudent decision, for this reason the dispensation from the obligation to at-tend Sunday Mass issued by Bishop Soto remains in force. The faithful are encouraged to attend Mass during the week as these usually have smaller crowds. If you are feeling sick or exhibiting symptoms, or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, PLEASE STAY HOME. Temperature above 100.4 F, cough or sore throat, loss of taste or smell, chills, new muscle aches, gas-trointestinal upset or diarrhea, PLEASE STAY HOME. Physical distancing remains in effect with six feet of space between individuals at all times. To follow the rules, ush-ers will be seating parishioners and making sure the rules are followed during entering/exiting the church, commun-ion and so forth. Please follow the instructions and signs posted to help you with these changes. Remember to be patient with the ushers as this is a difficult time for all of us. The church, restrooms, door handles, etc. will need to be sanitized after each Mass. A team of volunteers is in the works to accomplish the requirements. Missalettes, hymnals and other shared items will be re-moved. Please consider bringing your own material to fol-low Mass from home. The use of hand sanitizer will be available and encour-aged. Socializing and fellowship after Mass should be avoided if possible or at least minimized. Remove masks and gloves for Holy Communion. No holding hands during the Our Father nor exchanging the Sign of Peace with fellow parishioners.
