� NMCE Coffee futures saw a bearish week pass by with the near series price falling to levels of Rs.7,580 per qntl� The old season crop remained largely unsold except Robusta Cherry PB and AB grades which received good buying interest.� Colombia's coffee production was the lowest in three decades last year due to adverse weather conditions and low fertiliser use� Last year's coffee output - a marked departure from mid-decade, when production was relatively stable at roughly 11 million bags annually - stood at its lowest level since the end of the 1970s.� Last year's coffee output - a marked departure from mid-decade, when production was relatively stable at roughly 11 million bags annually - stood at its lowest level since the end of the 1970s.� Coffee exports last year were also adversely affected by the drop in output, falling 28.82 percent relative to 2008 to 7.9 million bags, also the lowest total in three decades.

� NMCE Raw Jute futures moved southwards this week� Near series moved below Rs.2,650 per qntl this week� The ban on imports of jute products from Bangladesh and Nepal into the country, as demanded by the Indian Jute Mills Association might encourage more use of alternative packaging materials thereby causing loss to the jute industry� The annual prolonged and indefinite strikes by jute mill workers have caused irreparable damage to the consumers and users of jute cloth and bags for their packaging requirements� Many large industries have already switched over from jute bags to woven poly sacks and it is very regrettable that neither the mill owners nor the trade unions are concerned over the loss of these markets for jute products

Rubber futures FEB series Closed at Rs.13364 down by Rs.939 from Rs.14303 the previous week.During the outgoing week, intra-day trade touched a high of Rs.14392 and a low of Rs.13300 .Spot Price Closed at Rs.13628 losing Rs.372 over Rs.14000 the previous week

� NMCE Rubber futures plunged this week to levels even below Rs.13,500� Sharp declines on the Tokyo rubber futures and the corresponding weakness in the domestic futures depressed the market mood to a great extent� Vietnam expects to increase rubber exports by 3.3 percent to 750,000 tonnes this year, betting on an economic recovery in its main markets, including top buyer China� Vietnam's export projection is small compared with the 2.8 million tonnes forecast this year by Thailand, the world's top exporter, where rubber prices are at their highest in over half a century.� The higher export target is based on a recovery in importing markets like China and also other countries such as India and Malaysia� China's economy is likely to grow faster in 2010 than previously forecast, at a rate of 9.5 percent� China bought 67 percent of Vietnam's rubber exports last year.� In total, Vietnam, the world's fourth-largest exporter after Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, shipped 726,000 tonnes in 2009, up 10.3 percent from 2008, government data shows.� Other traditional buyers of Vietnamese rubber are Japan, Russia, South Korea and the United States.

� NMCE sack futures prices were uncertain this week gaining on certain days and falling on other days� The annual prolonged and indefinite strikes by jute mill workers have caused irreparable damage to the consumers and users of jute cloth and bags for their packaging requirements� Many large industries have already switched over from jute bags to woven poly sacks and it is very regrettable that neither the mill owners nor the trade unions are concerned over the loss of these markets for jute products� The government and the sugar industry are the key buyers of jute products in the country and the prolonged strike has affected the supply of jute bags

� NMCE Turmeric futures improved over the week� Near series last traded at Rs.9,870 per qntl� India's turmeric futures ended higher on short-covering driven by depleting stocks, though estimates of higher output and weak exports limited the upside� India's turmeric exports in November dropped by 33 percent to 3,000 tonnes� Turmeric arrivals usually start in mid-January in small quantities and gain momentum from March. � The peak season runs till June.
