    Letter from the Committee

As I write this we are still under 5cm of

snow in Herefordshire. It makes me think of

what is too come, longer days, warmer climate

and spring fun. But before the end of winter

we have many things planned to keep us

entertained. The Nearly New Sale on Feb 16th

will be full of bargains for the coming summer

months and winter clothes for next year. The

week after the sale we are trialling a clothes

and toy swap at our baby and toddler group.

This will be a great way to clear out the stuff

your small person has grown out of and swap

it for the next size up without the hassle of

taking it to a charity shop. We also have lots

of people booked in at our baby and toddler

group, including the famous Pedro (who even

the smallest ones can enjoy) and the fantastic

Starlight Dance Company with their Zumbatomic

class are joining us. We are enjoying the new

venue for the committee meetings, every 2nd

Tuesday, 7.30pm, at Stretton Sugwas villagehall, drop in and tell us your fundraising

ideas! Remember you do not have to be a

    member to take advantage

of any of the NCT activi-

    ties, we are here to

    support parents in any

    way, shape or form.

    Dealing with Allergies

George was eight weeks old when we first suspected he

might be allergic to something he used to cry after

feeing and was very rashy. With the help of Julia Youll

we pursued it with our GP and after a dairy exclusion

diet for me (I was still exclusively breastfeeding) and a

couple of weeks we noticed a huge change. Our little boy

started to smile! He must have been so uncomfortable before.

We carried on as normal, I excluded dairy and wheat and we seemed to

have cracked it. Then weaning began. George had allergic reactions to almost

everything he touched bar carrots! We spent a lot of time in A&E while

we introduced new foods. The hospital was amazing and we saw an allergyspecialist who did lots of tests to pinpoint exactly what he was allergic to,

referred us to dermatology for his eczema and the dietician for all our food

questions! Never before have I been so thankful to the NHS!

George now takes an epi-pen wherever he goes, carries an inhaler and will

never be able to enjoy a slice of lemon meringue pie due to egg, dairy

and peanut allergies BUT he is doing fantastically. There are of course the

scary times when he gets hold of something he is not allowed and I have toepi-pen him and phone 999 but it doesnt happen that often and its just a

part of what makes my son special and unique.

Allergies are scary when you first hear about them but there is excellent

medical support in Hereford and if anyone ever has any questions or is

dealing with something similar then please dont hesitate to get in touch

    [email protected].
