MORA 2009 Conference

Welcome Dear Conference Participants, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 12th Annual Missouri Recycling Association Conference. This year’s conference has a wonderful mix of educational and informational tracks from recycling 101 through market updates and governmental initiatives. A special thank you to the conference committee: Sue Noel (conference chair), Linda Adams and Carrie Ray (conference co-chairs), Bill Guinther (educational sessions), Dave Beal (sponsors and exhibitors), Tony Lamantia (auction), and Bobby Gregg (audio visual master). Please let our board members know what you think of the tours, sessions and physical arrangements. All of them have been involved in one or more facets of the conference. This is a hard working group and we look forward to your feedback. As I look at the conference agenda, I am so proud of how our speakers support our conference. They do-nate their time and travel costs. Putting together a PowerPoint presentation can take many hours and some do it on their own time. I am looking forward to introducing our key note speaker, Lindsay James of InterfaceFLOR and a special guest speaker, our new Director of Natural Resources, Mark Templeton. We couldn’t make this conference happen without the support of our sponsors and exhibitors. In this eco-nomic climate, they help us with financial contributions and new initiatives in support of our recycling ef-forts. They look forward to talking with you. I want to thank you for attending the conference. There are many heroes in all walks of life that make our world better on a daily basis. You, in particular, assist our efforts to combat global warming, preserve our natural resources, create jobs and improve our communities. Enjoy your conference, Steve Fishman MORA Board President

C. Lindsay James InterfaceFLOR, LLC

Director of Strategic Sustainability Lindsay James is the Manager of Sustainable Strategy for Interface Inc.’s commercial floor-ing division, InterfaceFLOR. Lindsay is responsible for translating Interface’s leadership in sustainability into the marketplace. Much of her time is spent educating Interface's clients, sales force, and employees about the sustainability of its products and practices.

As a “student of sustainability” for more than 10 years, Lindsay is passionate about educating people both inside and outside of Interface on sustainability or “green” issues. As part of her role, she provides clarity and guidance for clients on challenges they are facing to become more sustainable within their respective organizations. She also provides in-sight on how the average person can make a difference and reduce his or her environmental footprint on a daily basis. Lindsay addresses a variety of organizations each year, from non-profits and higher education environments to A&D firms and professional associations. She typically speaks on the business of sustainability, sustainability education (including best practices, trends, and research), the importance for organizations to be transparent and therefore credi-ble in communicating sustainability, and sustainable living. Lindsay enjoys challenging the way people think about the consequences of their actions, urging them to recognize their market power and use it in a conscious way. As she points out to groups both large and small, “profit doesn’t have to come at the expense of our grandchildren,” and that there is a better, more sustainable way of conducting business and living. Lindsay is a LEED Accredited Professional and an active member in the Chicago Chapter of the United States Green Building Council. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, with an MBA in Sustainable Enterprise from the Kenan-Flagler Business School. She also attended UNC for her undergraduate degree, where she completed a BA in both Economics and Biology. Lindsay’s professional experience includes economic consulting with Analysis Group, commercial real estate acquisitions with Piedmont Commercial Properties, and environmental economics research with RTI International.
