Overtime tracking and the increasing demand on safety certifications presented the need for an overall technology solution that would capture and manage the growing data requirements of the company. In addition, with the vast majority of tasks being done manually, Breckenridge found it challenging to track and manage the seasonal aspect of their business. The company knew it needed enhanced ways to report on the wide variety of information that their builders were looking for. With Breckenridge growing at a rapid pace, reams of papers began to mount. It soon became obvious that Breckenridge needed to invest in a system that could help capture and manage their business. With both the company and the Calgary construction market growing at a rapid pace, it was clear that Breckenridge needed an innovative business solution, and fast. They required a technology system that would streamline their processes and make everyday tasks efficient, less complex, and that would scale with their anticipated growth. “We approached Spira Data Corp. to implement a construction management application with capabilities that needed to handle our complex and unique requirements,” says Jen Robinson, General Manager at Breckenridge. “Spira has allowed Breckenridge to utilize the software to the company’s exact requirements and specifications.” With Spira’s easily adaptable and customizable software, Breckenridge is now able to view information in the form of various reports with the ‘click of a button.’ There is no more deep digging to find information, because it is all right there with simple search capabilities. Spira has given Breckenridge insight and ‘actionable intelligence’ into all facets of their business process, including Accounts Receivable, Revenue Tracking, Invoicing, Job Costing, Equipment Utilization, Billing Verification, Business Partner Management, and Payroll. By implementing an automated process, the manual entry and re-keying of invoices and job information is virtually eliminated. This has led to far fewer errors and a greatly improved bottom line. Breckenridge has been able to analyze and recover ‘lost and unaccounted for cash’ through a billing verification report that is run daily and that has ultimately ended up saving the company a significant amount of money.

In production for over 4 years now, Breckenridge has been able to gain a competitive advantage using Spira by being able to accomplish far more with less – becoming a leader in job costing and completions within the concrete industry. The company has a seen a noticeable improvement in employee morale, as they are now able to do more work with fewer people and focus on their growing customer base. Payroll used to be a full-time job for three members of the Accounts Payable team. Now with Spira, payroll is transacted accurately and on-time with a single individual. The company has found that with the use of Spira, receivables have significantly improved, leading to invoices getting paid faster and improving overall cash flow. In the past, the Accounts Receivable process was a two person job. Now, it takes only one employee, allowing other team members to work on other tasks. Day Sales Outstanding (DSO) has improved significantly – with month end now being displayed in a Spira report that monitors aging and outstanding tickets and invoices. In addition, sub-trades are re-capturing hours in their day by eliminating the need to create their own invoices now created and transacted in Spira. In a short time, Breckenridge has transformed into a job-costing leader within the concrete industry. With the capabilities of Spira being used in everyday activities, it is now extremely easy to spot inefficiencies throughout their business. Warren Banks, Breckenridge President sums it up – “We have found that since using Spira, our relationships with suppliers and our valued customers have dramatically improved, and without the use of this market-leading technology, Breckenridge wouldn’t be nearly as well positioned for top-line growth.”
