About Breckenridge Breckenridge is a 151-year-old historic Victorian mining town located 70 miles west of Denver. Well before Breckenridge was a ski resort, it was a town. And the spirit of the town hasn’t changed much: equal parts outcast and visionary, frontier and fine living. Full of gold finds and mining, exploration and adventure, brothels and saloons, booms and busts, the town’s history set the stage for the modern day adventures for which Breckenridge is known and loved. Breck, as locals like to call it, is unique because of the seamless connection between the historic district, nightlife, shopping, hotels, and the ski resort - and everything is within walking distance of each other! When you combine those features with the breathtaking scenery and hundreds of miles of world-class single track departing right from the center of town, you will see why Breckenridge is considered one of the top cycling (and tourist) destinations in the world. In 2010 the League of American Bicyclists, designated Breckenridge as a “Bicycle Friendly Community” with special recognition for our access to single track, paved bike paths, painted bike lanes and bicycle way-finding signage. Breckenridge annually hosts dozens of cycling events including the Firecracker 50, the Breck Epic, the Breck 100, the Courage Classic and the Summit Mountain Challenge Race Series. During August of 2011, Breck will also host a stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge – a multi-stage road race drawing the highest- ranking international cyclists in the world! As you can tell, cycling is an integral part of life in Breckenridge and Breck Bike Week contributes to and thrives off of this energy.
