LITTLE SAINTS PROGRAMMercy Welcomes “Little Saints”
In the true spirit of Catholic education, the mission of Our Lady of Mercy School centers on bringing children closer to Christ and helping them to become saints. @is fall Mercy began that important work at a younger age than ever before when we welcomed three-year-old students to campus for the first time in the school’s history.
@ese “Little Saints” are part of a pilot program that the school hopes to expand once the new academic building is constructed on the west side of Marquette, south of the current ECC (Early Childhood Center). @e program currently serves seventeen three-year-olds who are parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy.
Mrs. Skyy Hagen serves as the lead teacher for the class. Her experience includes having taught giMed Pre-K for three years in the EBR school system. She graduated from LSU and is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Her teaching assistant, Ms. Taylor Beadle is a Mercy graduate who is aspiring to serve as a lead teacher aMer completing coursework and certification.
One of the primary reasons for starting a three-year-old program at Mercy is to provide parents with an option of having their children in a Catholic educational environment at an earlier age. @e academic curriculum of the Little Saints Program is guided by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). While utilizing Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Mrs. Hagen integrates our Catholic faith through Scripture, Bible characters, saints and liturgical life of the Church. According to Mrs. Hagan, “I have always wanted the opportunity to incorporate the love I have for my faith into the classroom. As a Mercy teacher, I’m not only allowed, but encouraged to answer my student’s questions about our faith and incorporate those lessons in the classroom.”
@e first phase of the Traditions for Tomorrow Capital Campaign will fund two new construction projects at the school, a new gymnasium and a new Early Childhood Center. @e new academic building will provide at least two classrooms for three-year-old students. @e program has been a tremendous success, and the school hopes to welcome more “Little Saints” in the years ahead. We welcome you to call our Admissions OZce at 927-2341 to schedule your private tour.

Altar Flowers MemorialEach week you may honor a loved one with a giF of $150 to dedicate the floral arrangement that adorns our Sanctuary.
Memorial GiftsAt the death of a loved one, many choose in lieu of flowers to encourage friends and family to make a donation to a special charity or cause. Our Lady of Mercy has nourished the spiritual life of so many parishioners and those throughout the Diocese who come here. A Memorial GiF to our Traditions for Tomorrow Capital Campaign is a wonderful way to acknowledge the lives of our beloved dead with a giF of loving generosity to the church that has been such a spiritual home. Ms. Deanie Smith can discuss beautiful ways for you to remember your loved one.
Consider adding a planned gi. in your last will and testament to remember Our Lady of Mercy.

CATECHISM CORNER
Angels and Archangels-e word angel comes from the Latin word
“angelus” meaning messenger. -e angels are
represented throughout the Bible as spiritual
beings who intermediate between God and men,
heaven and earth. Psalm 8 says: “You have made
man a little less than the angels.”
-e catechism teaches that angels are spiritual
creatures who glorify God without ceasing and who
serve his saving plans for other creatures.
Angels surround the Lord. -ey serve him
especially in the accomplishment of his saving
mission to men and women.
Angels are immortal creatures with intelligence
and free will who glorify God without ceasing.
-e Church venerates the angels who help her on
her earthly pilgrimage and protect every human
being.
Angels in the Scripture visited people giving them
warnings and comfort.
-ey are also known to influence
people in making decisions.
Guardian angels are assigned to
protect and intercede for each
person.
-e Feast of the Guardian Angels
is October 2nd.
While angels are messengers,
archangels are chief messengers or a higher
messenger who is above the angel.
-e Feast of the Archangels is September 29th.
In the Catholic tradition there are three Archangels:
• Michael, which means “Who is like God;”
• Gabriel, which means “God is my strength;” and
• Raphael, which means “It is God who heals.”

Heavenly Father,
In this year of Mercy, we are mindful of the love of your son, Jesus, poured out for us.
For more than 70 years, Our Lady of Mercy Parish has been a spiritual home to your people.
A place of forgiveness and healing;
A place of silent prayer and joyful celebration;
A treasure of sacramental life and grace.
Orough the intercession of Our Lady, whose presence is so strongly felt in this holy place,
Renew your life in us;
Increase our faith and trust;
Bless the works of our hands and the Traditions for Tomorrow;
Let us not be content with eTorts of the past but lead us with your Spirit
to serve the generations to come;
Open our hearts to give generously of ourselves and our resources
to provide for the needs of the future;
Renew us from within; and
Give us generous hearts.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
AMEN
Our Lady of Mercy, pray for us
Fr. Cleo Milano
