Gardening with OakmontWhen looking for a fun activity to do outside, many of our residents choose gardening. It stimulates all of the senses, awakens our connection with nature, and rewards us with fresh flowers and juicy tomatoes. In terms of other benefits, it can help prevent injury, ease stress and anxiety, and be a mood booster. Another plus side of gardening is it can offer an increase in mobility and flexibility. Gardening has something for everyone, whether you’re new to the hobby or a seasoned pro.
What Oakmont loves about gardening is it gives our residents the opportunity to watch something they planted slowly come to life, which can be invigorating. As a company, we love making gardening an activity that everyone can enjoy, including creating a safe environment where our residents can foster their gardening experiences. We are also looking at creating other activities for all residents to partake in, such as gardening lessons, trips to the local nurseries, chef demonstrations, garden socials, and much more.If you’re interested in learning more about gardening, please visit our website at oakmontseniorliving.com/gardening for a full list of helpful tips and ideas.RCFE #366426338

TransportationOur featured resident this month is Edwina. Edwina was born in Fukien Province, China. She came to the United States when she was just sixteen years old. Growing up, her uncle bought a radio and comic books and she slowly learned
English. Edwina has also had the opportunity to hone her English from seeing the movies on Saturday afternoons. Edwina has two grown children. Her daughter, Cari, a social worker and her son, Cameron, a college professor with a PhD in Theology. He teaches at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena and is a published author. She is very proud of them both! Edwina has always wanted to help others, so she began knitting caps for cancer patients and sweaters for children in Africa for World Vision. Edwina has knitted nearly 100 sweaters so far, and innumerable caps. She is loving life here at Oakmont with her many friends.
