Train Trip to Historic Olvera Street in Los Angeles We'll board the train in Upland and travel to Union Station and Olvera Street. Known as the birthplace of Los Angeles, it was established to celebrate the city’s Mexican heritage. Its narrow passages and 19th-century buildings house traditional restaurants, folk art and an 1815 Plaza. We'll enjoy lunch as Mariachis strum their big guitars and the aroma of fresh tortillas fills the air! Wednesday, April 26th, 10:00 am Book your reservation with the concierge as space is limited. A spring recipe from Oakmont's Regional Chef, Rina Younan Spring has sprung and it’s one of my favorite seasons! Everything blossoms and grows, and everywhere you look there are blue skies, colorful flowers and green grass. At Oakmont, many of our chefs will be getting their hands dirty planting Chef Gardens full of fresh herbs and spring vegetables that will be harvested and used in our restaurants all throughout the fall! One of the things I look forward to in the spring in my family is our family gatherings for Easter. Each year, we enjoy an afternoon meal to which we each bring our own signature spring dish to share. As you can imagine, as a Chef I have many! One of my favorites to share with my family is my famous Blood Orange Shortbread Bars. Highlighting the peak of the citrus harvest, these delicious, refreshing and sweet treats are something everyone will enjoy. This year, I am excited to share my recipe with you! Happy spring! TransportationOur resident, Jim Hueter, was born in San Francisco in 1925. He enjoyed art in high school and painted a four-by-eight-foot mural there. His freshman year at Pomona College was followed by three years in the U. S. Army. The first year was

spent in Germany guarding prisoners. In 1951, he graduated from Pomona and Claremont Graduate School with a Master in Fine Arts degree. Jim became good friends with others in the field that used the G.I. Bill to assist them in their college careers. Manybecame successful; even world-famous. Jim's startwas slow but steady. He has exhibited in Los Angelesgalleries and his work has become part of collectionsworldwide. He has many award-winning pieces. Mostrecently his sculpture, "Thin Figure Rising" was addedto the American Gallery at the Huntington Library.Look for an exhibit of his work here later this year.
