A Note from Fr. Quealy
Some pearls of wisdom from Abraham Lincoln:
“My great concern is not whether you have failed,
but whether you are content with your failure.”
“I do not think much of a person who is not wiser
today than he was yesterday.”
God Bless,
Fr. Quealy
You must register to attend the 2019-2020
O.L.S. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM
Registration forms can be picked up at the rectory
office or via email [email protected]
Remember you must be a registered parishioner of
O.L.S. to enroll your child/children in our Religious
Education program. It is important that all forms are
completed and returned to the rectory office as soon

for additional classrooms for our upper grades.
Session 1 will begin at 8:30am and end at 9:50am.
Session 2 will begin at 10:15am and end at 11:35am.
Religious Ed Teachers & Assistants Needed

faith? Become a Religious Education teacher
(catechist) and use the talents God has given you to
help teach the tenets of our faith. Please contact Jen

He has been waiting for you for twenty centuries.”
– St. Josemaria Escriva
Next week is Augusts’
Brown Bag Sunday.
Today for your
convenience we are again
providing brown paper
bags at all three entrances
to the church. Each bag
will have a suggested
shopping list attached. All
food donations should be non-perishable, nothing should
be in glass containers and no expired items should be
included. For those wishing to make a financial
donation, checks should be made payable to Feeding
Westchester and placed in the basket at the altar next
week or given to the volunteer in the community room.
Last month you donated 298 pounds of food and $1,180.
Brown Bag Sunday started at O.L.S. in April of 2011 and
since then you have donated over 43,900 pounds of food
and $112,459. Every $1 collected buys $4 to $7 worth of
food. The need is great - but so is the generosity of our
parishioners. May God Bless you.
A PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS
HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Aug. 18, 2019
“Jeremiah ought to be put to death: he is demoralizing the
soldiers that are left in the city, and all the people, by
speaking such things to them; he is not interested in the
welfare of the people, but in their ruin….let us rid
ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and
persevere in running the race that lies before us while
keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter
of faith.”
Jeremiah, the prophet, spoke for God. The role of the
prophet is to disturb the comfortable and calm the
disturbed. Unlike our current political promises, he was
calling people back to the Lord. It is not easy to keep our
eyes fixed on Jesus, as our culture of selfishness, greed,
and consumerism, are the cause of detours and
distraction, of sadness and division.
As a missionary disciple, I am counter cultural, seeking
to walk with others in pursuit of the values of the gospel.
In this way I work for the well being of all. Where are
your eyes and efforts directed?
