“Prayer: The Faith Prayed”

Catechetical Sunday.

September 18

Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.

A Catechist’s Prayer Father of all families, you have called me to serve the family in truth and love as a catechist. May I be faithful to this call, rooted in your Word, and open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May I use these gifts, especially the gifts of faith, hope, and love, to serve the family as a witness to you, who are love and life and the source and destiny of all families. Let your Spirit enlighten my mind and strengthen my heart so that I can be a path of Christ’s love to families, especially those in need, the homebound and aged, the disabled and disheartened. Through the intercession of Mary and Joseph, I pray for the Church, the Bride of Christ, whose mission to build a civilization of love passes through the family. Amen.

ALPHA…

What is Alpha? Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the Christian faith. It is a parish tool to foster evangelization. Alpha is based on welcome and hospitality, sharing and prayer. Each session includes a meal, a talk and small group discussion. The Meal Offering a meal or snack is an essential part of Alpha. Participants are welcomed into a relaxed and friendly setting and have the opportunity to get to know one another. The Talk After the meal, a short talk is given on the Christian faith. The talks are based on the teaching of the Church, the Bible, and the personal testimony of the speaker. Topics vary from ‘Who is Jesus?’ to ‘How can I make the most of the rest of my life?’ The Small Group Conversation The small groups provide the opportunity to build trust and friendship. The role of the host (leader) is to facilitate discussion, inviting guests to share openly and honestly, without any criticism or judgment. Within the group, participants learn the art of liste- ning, reading the Scriptures and praying. The small groups often develop into prayer groups that may then become small Christian communities within the parish.

“The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.”

“El que es fiel en cosas pequeñas, también es fiel en las grandes;

How do we use what God has given us? Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of September 18, 2016 Listen to the Word (Luke 16:1 — 13) Again today, the Gospel is demanding. When you heard it pro-claimed, how did you feel? What word or phrase struck you? What is most memorable about this reading? Look into your life Question for children: Clothes, food, toys all cost money. How can you keep your faith more important than money? Question for youth: The Gospel tells us that money can get in the way of serving God. As a young person, it’s important to have money, but how can you use all that you have (possessions, money, time, talent) to serve God? Question for adults: Money is an important part of modern life. How can you keep the need for money in balance with your faith? Suggest one or two ways you can. Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: Today’s gospel stresses that we should be resourceful stewards while doing God’s work. Our land is a land of plenty. Our re-sponsibility is to take care of the world given to us, not to waste, not to be greedy, and to share our wealth. Have your family do a project this week to help clean up a park, highway, beach, or neighborhood. In addition, if your community has a recycling program, encourage all your family members to participate. For the evening prayer this week, remember to pray for go- vernment leaders. Remind your family of the responsibility we all have to pray for those who are in charge of our civic well-being. Make a list of situations in your community that seem to be exploiting others. Write your senators and congressional repre-sentatives and ask them to work to change these situations. Discuss a local charity that your family will commit to help throughout the rest of the year. Remember that in our parish we have the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

¿A cuál sirvo yo?

September 18, 2016 Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The dishonest manager in today’s parable knew how to manipu-late money to his own advantage. But the Gospel warns that no one can serve both God and money. Which do I serve? Is my stewardship such that anyone can tell?
