The day of the Lord is a day of hope and joy Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of November 13, 2016 Listen to the Word (2 Thessalonians 3:7—12; Luke 21:5—19) As you hear Paul's advice about work, what strikes you in the reading? What single word stands out to you? Look into your life Question for children: Jesus teaches us that work is good for us. What kind of work do you do during the week? How does it help you? Question for youth: Learning to work and working to live are life realities as you grow up. What role does work have in your life? Do you want to work for the money, or would you also want to contribute to the human community? Question for adults: Paul's words to the Thessalonians are tough: if you want to eat, you must work! How does this translate into our society today? How do you reconcile this with Jesus' command to love and feed the poor? Activities for the week Take these activities to reflect more: Today’s Gospel invites us to live in hope and to share what God has given us as we await Jesus’ return. What can your family do to live in joyful hope for Jesus’ return? Remind the family that your faithfulness and love is a reflection of God’s love for the world. Make a poster with a large circle in the center representing a mirror. Within the mirror, draw pictures or make a list of ways that your family can reflect God’s love within and beyond the household. Is there someone you know who is having trouble right now? What can you do to help that person persevere in faith? Go around the table and ask each family member what they would want to be doing if Jesus returned today. Would you live your life differently if you knew exactly when Jesus was coming? If so, how would your life change?

November 13, 2016 Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today’s readings paint a somewhat frightening picture of the end of time. But the Gospel ends with the assurance to faithful stew-ards that those who persevere will be saved.

STEWARDSHIP BY THE BIBLE — CORRESPONSABILIDAD DE ACUERDO A LA BIBLIA

Catequésis Familiar — Family Catechesis

“See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’

Do not follow them! When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified;

for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.”

Veterans Day. Last Friday our nation celebrated the armistice that ended World War I. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 an armistice between Germany and the allied nations came into effect. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time. In 1919, President Wilson proclaimed the day should be "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory". “That military personnel who have given their lives for their country enjoy forever the peace of the kingdom of God, and for all the men and women in the armed forces who serve our nation now... we pray to the Lord.”
