From the office of The Supervisor, Bill Reilich
November has flown by, and December is right around the cor-ner. With the holidays just around the corner, I would like to wish ev-eryone a very safe and happy holiday season. Residents can expect to have a new place to ice skate come winter time. Thanks to a grant pro-vided by Assemblyman Peter Lawrence, the Town is able to continue to offer new amenities and activities. An ice skating rink will be placed on top of the pickleball courts conveniently located right on Town Hall Campus. Also in-cluded in the funding will be lights for night skating and a booth structure as well. The new electronic sign in front of Town Hall was also included as a part of this grant. It is de-signed to better alert residents of upcoming town events and activities, especially those without regular access to a computer. This allows us to promote Town events to even more residents, and has already been responsible for in-creased attendance at events. As always, if I can be of as-sistance to you in any town related matters, please do not hesitate to contact my office directly at 225-2000.

Six Tips on How to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain by Tami Mungenast Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach
As the holiday season approaches so many of us struggle with finding balance in being able to enjoy all of the festivities and not gaining weight. The average American typically gains 7 lbs. in the 6 week holiday season. Holiday foods, desserts and time management struggles of maintaining your current exercise regime can lead to increased body fat. The hustle and bustle of the shopping, parties and traveling adds more stress and less time creating the perfect storm for unwanted weight gain. Follow these six tips to help this holiday season be happy and healthy!
Stick to your regular routine. If its not the actual day of the holiday make it a commitment to keep consistency with your eating schedule, sleeping patterns and workouts. Don’t allow a few holidays to derail days and weeks of your progress.
Try to get to bed at your normal time. Don’t blow off your workouts and still plan/prepare your meals as a normal day. Take time out from TV, Social Media and mobile busyness to make time for holiday peparations.
Limit your alcohol intake. Alcoholic beverages can add cal-ories and carbs quickly and mindlessly to you day. Try limiting alcohol to the select holiday or special parties and use seltzer and flavored waters in between.
Eat a small snack before the party. Eat something nutri-tious and low in carb before the holiday event to prevent
yourself from over eating or binging at the event. Protein rich foods are a good choice to help keep you full.
Stay away from the food table and especially dessert ta-ble. Hovering over the food table will weaken your will power and can create mindless snacking. If you are dying to try a dessert or something calorically rich cut the serving size in half and then put it on your plate. You can still enjoy the taste of the food but cut the calories and carbs in half. Try to snack on the healthier choices like veggies and dip or chocolate cov-ered strawberries. Drink plenty of water to keep your stom-ach full.
Set goals and keep a journal. Set realistic goals of how many times you will go to the gym each week, how many walks you will take and journal your success and struggles. Also make a food journal each day to stay more aware of what your eating. Often this can make one bad day stop at a day and not turn into a series of bad days or weeks.

Latta Long Liquorby Barbara Burke
Latta Long Liquor is located at 3177 Latta Road, in the Wegmans Plaza, Greece. New owners Gary Miller and Jim Sweeney purchased the wine and spirits store in 2014. Under the new ownership, the store recently remodeled, rearranged and updated with a new look, including new paint and carpeting.
Latta Long Liquor offers a full and expanding line of wines and spirits, domestic and imported. They have over 150 different New York State Wines in stock. For Holiday giving, they have a nice selection of Gift Sets available.
Customer Service is the key to the success of Latta Long Liquor. The current seven member staff has over 100 years combined experience in the retail Wine and Spirit Indus-try. Store manager Tom Weinstein has managed this store since it opened in 1989. “I’ve worked here 26 years through three different owners. I really like the job because it is dif-ferent everyday. I enjoy the regular customers, talking to, and helping all the customers with selection, hearing how they like the products and which ones are favorites. I keep
GreeceNewsNY.com - Service Business of the Month
up with the trends in the business through talking with the supplier’s representatives, customers and through trade magazines,” Tom says.
Another great way to get customer feedback and to keep up with the latest products in the industry is through the hosting of Wine Tastings. Wine Tastings are held every Sat-urday from 4-7PM at Latta Long Liquor. Tom says, “For each of our Wine Tastings, one of our product suppliers sends a representative to introduce new products, provide samples of current products and to get customer feedback about the wines tasted. The atmosphere is very casual. I help out with the customers choices, answer questions and learn about the products.”
With their convenient location and parking, knowledge-able staff, extensive inventory and ever expanding product offerings, Latta Long Liquor makes wine and spirit purchas-ing a pleasant experience. They will also fill special order requests.
Latta Long Liquor is open Monday thru Thursday 9AM-9PM; Friday and Saturday 8AM-9PM; Sunday Noon-7PM.
Call 585-227-9463 for more information.

Greece Supervisor, Bill Reilich released his proposed 2016 budget for the town which holds the line on property taxes, reduces spending for the second straight year, and utilizes no reserve funds.
“Two years ago, I set the goal of eliminating the use of re-serve funds to balance the budget,” said Supervisor Reilich. “The budget that I inherited in 2014 used over $5,100,000 of reserves. I knew this practice was not sustainable and that the town’s reserve funds would have been exhausted within three years.” Reilich added, “I am pleased to say that my goal has been met; working with my department heads and the employees throughout Town Hall the 2016 budget does not propose to use any reserve funds.”
The proposed 2016 budget reduces appropriations by more than a half million dollars over last year’s budget. “We’ve continued to press for greater efficiencies in the town’s operations, and I’m pleased to say that we’ve made further progress in that regard,” said Reilich. The 2014 tax rate was $6.3434 per thousand and the proposed 2016 budget tax rate will be $6.3392, actually a very slight de-crease.
Some of the key components of the proposed 2016 budget include: •The elimination of 29 vacant positions, most part time and seasonal. This brings the total reduction in positions to 46 over the past two years. •The tax levy remains below the state tax cap, ensuring that residents will receive their state rebate checks. •Maintains all current programs and services. •Allows for the construction of a new police headquarters at the Town Hall Campus. •Includes the acquisition of all street lights within the town from RG&E which will generate significant future savings to the town. •Allows for the construction of a new lodge at Braddock Bay Park.
Our 2016 proposed budget will show that we are spend-ing only what the town takes in. While we successfully reduced the size of our overall budget, we have still have
made the addition of quality of life amenities a priority. In 2015 we saw the completion of the Town Hall Pavilion, this has attracted thousands of residents and was used to host our Summer Concert Series, Senior Lunch Events, National Night Out and 4th of July Festivities as well. We were pleased to also open our 6-court pickle ball area. This amenity has been utilized for recreational and league play as well. This winter plans are underway to have communi-ty ice skating at the site of the pickle ball courts. Likely one of our most frequented additions has been the Spray Park. It is the largest in Western New York and we will continue to look for ways to enlarge it and add additional amenities for those visiting. We also installed a handicapped acces-sible boat launch at Braddock Bay Marina – this amenity saw a lot of use this past boating season and we are cer-tain that with the changes and improvements for naviga-tion that will be happening at the marina it will be in even more demand.
Reilich added, “My first two budgets have gone a long way towards ensuring our town’s long-term financial sta-bility. We’ve continued to pursue savings by refinancing older bond issues to take advantage of the current low mar-ket rates. Our last reissue will save more than $300,000 in interest payments over the life of the bonds.” Reilich con-tinued, “We’ve been able to limit our increases in Health Insurance costs by negotiating greater contributions from our employees.”

Operation Warm - Coats for StudentsMore than 275 Greece students received free winter
coats in special ceremonies at school-based coat distri-bution events held during the last two weeks of October 2015.
Area students won’t be without warm coats this winter thanks to the generosity of Greece Central School District employees and the Greece Community.
Members of the Greece Teachers Association (GTA) So-cial Justice Committee partnered with the Ridge Road Fire District and raised more than $9,000 to purchase 300 coats for Greece elementary school children in need.
Students receive a coat, a hat and gloves free of charge. Students also toured a Ridge Road District firetruck on site
for the each of the ceremonies. Each student who received a coat was assisted in their
coat selection by a “helper.” Helpers were volunteers from the School, Greece School District Administration and Fire-fighters from the Ridge Road Fire District.
Coat distribution ceremonies were held at West Ridge Elementary School, Buckman Heights Elementary School, Longridge Elementary School and Holmes Road Elemen-tary School.
The Greece program is part of a national initiative called Operation Warm, which has given new winter coats to more than 1.7 million children throughout the country.

Small Business Saturday - November 28, 2015by Barbara Burke
A Day to Show Support for Local BusinessThe first Small Business Saturday was held on November
27, 2010. The original idea came from the American Express Company and was designed as a day to encouraged people across the country to support and celebrate their small, local community businesses. In 2011 the day became official and from Washington D.C. to Washington State, governors, may-ors, senators and President Obama all have voiced support for Small Business Saturday.
On the U.S. Small Business Administration website a mes-sage from President Barack Obama states the importance of small businesses to our communities. It reads in part, “Small businesses are the cornerstones of our communities. From shops and restaurants that showcase the talents of entrepre-neurs to innovative companies that bolster local economies, small businesses define our neighborhoods and towns. The energy, ingenuity, and perseverance of their owners and staff help lay the foundation for continued growth and prosperity, forging a brighter tomorrow for all.”
Over the years the idea grew and so did the participation by small businesses and community members who support-ed their neighborhood mom and pop shops and restaurants, keeping their money local and fueling the neighborhood’s economy. In 2014 over 88 million people showed up across the nation to shop on Small Business Saturday, and now it is officially recognized as a holiday shopping tradition with the declaration “Shop Small.”
Information is available for businesses that want to partici-pate in Small Business Saturday on both the American Express
website www.americanexpress.com and the U.S. Small Busi-ness Administration website www.sba.gov. Both websites of-fer advice, marketing materials, tips for marketing your busi-ness for the holidays, social media promotions for Facebook and Twitter, and ways to maximize the return on hosting of holiday events at your business.
Local, small business owner Barb Miller of Interior Expres-sions by Design located at 1100 Long Pond Road in Greece takes her participation in Small Business Saturday one step further and gives back to the community and the people who support her business on Small Business Saturday. Barb has been participating in Small Business Saturday since it began in 2010, and each year she has donated a portion of the pro-ceeds of her sales on Small Business Saturday to a local com-munity organization. This year Barb has chosen the Greece American Legion Post 468 on Dorsey Road, Wounded Warrior Benefit as the recipient of her donation. Each year The Ameri-can Legion Post 468 holds a Wounded Warrior Benefit Con-cert and Ride. Barb read about the benefit in a story by Tami Raco printed in the October 2015 issue of GreeceNewsNY.com entitled “4th Annual Wounded Warrior Benefit Concert.” The article is available for viewing on www.GreeceNewsNY.com.
Always a strong advocate for Veterans, Barb’s husband Jim Miller is a Vietnam Veteran, and many of her family mem-bers are veterans. She says they know how important it is that we take better care of our returning veterans. “We don’t do enough for our veterans. I want to support the Wounded Warriors in our Greece community with this donation. I think it is important that everyone give back to their community, in whatever way they can,” Barb says. About the opportunity that Small Business Saturday gives her to give back Barb says, “I think it is a great way to make people aware of just how much their support means to small business and how very important it is to keep the money local and working in our communities. All of the people that work in, and own small businesses work very hard to be there in the communities and to stay vital for the people who live there. Support from our local people is what keeps us going, we truly appreciate their business.”

LOSTSTREAM
MAP
The STREAM & LAKE MAP OF NEW YORK resembles another map - known to Pennsylvania anglers as the “Lost Stream Map.” The “Stream Map of Pennsylva-nia” was completed in 1965 after a thirty-year effort by Howard Higbee, a former Penn State Professor. Professor Higbee succeeded in creating a map of the highest detail possible...a map that shows every stream and lake. He painstak-ingly plotted by hand, the location of 45,000 miles of streams onto a 3 x 5 foot map. The map sold extremely well – until it was lost several years after it first appeared in print. Incredibly, the printer entrusted with the original drawing and printing plates declared bankruptcy, then carelessly hauled Higbee’s 30 years of work to the landfill. The few remaining dog-eared copies became a prized fisherman’s possession. Professor Higbee was offered $400 for one of his last maps. And state agencies were forced to keep their copies under lock and key. The experts had always told Professor Higbee that reprints were impossible, because the maps were printed in non-photographic blue. Then, in 1991, at the age of 91, Howard Higbee’s dream came true. Computers made it possible to reprint the map. Holding an updated map, Howard said, “I never thought I’d live to see this day.” Then, by combining Professor Higbee’s knowledge with computer technology – the STREAM & LAKE MAP OF NEW YORK was created.

Notice to Hunters in Braddock Bay
Construction is set to begin this winter on the $9.5 million Braddock Bay Wetland Restoration Project. The project, which is funded through the Great Lakes Restoration Initia-tive, will restore and protect regionally significant wetland habitat while improving boater access to Lake Ontario.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has asked the Town of Greece to help inform hunters and the general public of some temporary restrictions which must be honored in the interest of safety. Due to construction activity and the presence of construction workers in Braddock Bay, hunting will be temporarily prohibited in certain areas beginning January 1, 2016. The restrictions will mainly affect water-fowl hunters in the late waterfowl hunting seasons this winter, and for portions of the fall 2016 waterfowl hunting season.
This work is critical to protect and restore the integrity of Braddock Bay wetlands and the habitat that they provide for fish and wildlife. If you have any questions please send them to [email protected]. For more infor-mation on this project please visit:www.lrb.usace.army.mil/Missions/CivilWorks/DistrictProjects/BraddockBay.aspx.

Safety Tips for Hiking in Greece ParksThere are 15 parks in the Town of Greece with miles of
hiking trails to enjoy year round. For more information on parks in the Town of Greece visit www.greeceny.gov.
Here is a list of hiking safety tips prepared by the Town of Greece Chamber of Commerce and the Greece Police Department. •Tell someone where you are going. Before you leave, let someone know where you are going and when you are planning on returning.•Go with a buddy. Enjoy your hike and park experience with a friend if possible. Two or more hikers/park goers can assist each other in the event of accident or injury, and one can always seek help. •Take what you need. Carry personal identification and bring your fully charged cell phone. If you use a medication frequently, take it and the instructions for use with you.•The day is your friend. It’s better to avoid dusk and dark-ness. •Leave valuables at home. Don’t make yourself an obvious target. If you must leave valuables in your vehicle while you are enjoying your picnic lunch or using the trails, hide them
well before you arrive at the parking area; auto burglaries are all too common. •Own the trail. Project alertness, confidence, and deter-mination. Your shoulders are back, you are aware of your surroundings, and you have somewhere to go. •Use all your senses. Listen for suspicious noises. Don’t wear headphones; they impair your ability to hear some-one approaching you from behind. If you sense that an area may be unsafe for you, leave. •Be easy to find. Use marked, authorized trails only.•Call for help. If you need assistance or encounter some-one else needing assistance, call 911.
