Ridge Road Fire District Honored The Ridge Road Fire District in the Town of Greece has re-
ceived Accredited Agency status with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).
The Ridge Road Fire District is one of less than three hun-dred agencies to achieve Internationally Accredited Agency status with the CFAI and the Center for Public Safety Excel-lence, Inc. (CPSE). The District has been accredited since 2005 and has undergone re-accreditation for the third time. They are the only accredited municipal fire depart-ment in New York State. The only other Accredited Fire De-partment in New York State is the US Army’s Camp Drum.
CFAI is dedicated to assisting the fire and emergency service agencies throughout the world in achieving excel-lence through self assessment and accreditation in order to provide continuous quality improvement and the en-hancement of service delivery to their communities. The CFAI process is voluntary, and provides the agency with an improvement model to assess their service delivery and performance internally and then works with a team of peers from other states and agencies to evaluate their completed self assessment.
Chief Bud Phillips stated that the agency’s achievement of Accredited Agency status, “Demonstrates the commit-ment of the District to provide the highest quality of ser-

Long Hair Extra
From the office of The Supervisor, Bill Reilich
The cooler weather is already beginning to prevail as we begin to wind down the sum-mer season. The Wild Over Water Zone was a tremendous success in its inaugural year. Over 10,000 bracelets were handed out in total, and many more are expected for next year. You may have noticed the new electronic sign in front of Town Hall on Long Pond Road. All town sponsored events will be prominently displayed to inform residents as they pass by Town Hall. These in-clude Community & Senior Center activities, Town Board meetings, flu clinics, and many other town sponsored activities. If you should ever require more information on Community & Senior Center activities, please contact the front desk at 723-2425. The Town of Greece has also launched a brand new website. Designed with residents in mind, the most frequently discussed topics have been brought to the forefront of the site. Also included in the design is a new call center feature which allows users to report any town related issues without ever picking up the phone. Comments will be forwarded directly to the cor-rect department which will result in even faster response times. As always, if I can be of assistance to you in any town related matters, please do not hesitate to contact my office directly at 225-2000.
New Town of Greece WebsiteSupervisor Bill Reilich announced that the brand new Town of Greece website has officially launched. In a partnership with MasonDigital, the online face of the town has been updated to portray a more modern look and feel. Along with design changes, the site has been completely reor-ganized to reflect the most visited areas of the site. With more precise search functionality and a smoother layout, residents will be able to find the information they need faster than ever before. A new call center has also been integrated into the design. This section of the site takes into account the most frequently asked questions received at Town Hall and allows residents to be able to report any problems that they come across in the town without ever picking up the phone. The calendar feature puts the user in control and allows users to choose from several differ-ent categories from which to display information. “I am excited to finally unveil the new website for the Town of Greece” said Supervisor Reilich in a statement. “Our web-site was in need of an update, and this design is the most unique for a municipality in Monroe County. I invite resi-dents to visit the new site and see all that it has to offer.” Visit www.greeceny.gov

Farmers Insuranceby Tami Raco
Meet Nicole Curcio of Farmers Insurance. Nicole has had an entrepreneur spirit since she was a young girl. She began her first business when she was just a teenager in high school. As a teen, Nicole began a landscaping business that she successfully ran during her high school and college years. After she complet-ed college she sold the business and obtained her Real Estate License. After many successful years in real estate sales, invest-ment properties and mortgages she continued her professional path into Real Estate Appraisals. Nicole underwent Real Estate Appraisal classes and became licensed in New York State as a Real Estate Appraiser. She then launched her next business “Ap-praise Rochester.” As Appraise Rochester grew she expanded the business into all of New York State by opening “Appraise New York”. This state wide appraisal business generated the profits to help Nicole begin her newest venture in the Insurance industry.
Insurance seemed to be a perfect complement to Nicole’s business background and her current client’s needs. She says, “Insurance is something that everyone needs especially those buying new homes or property.” Nicole researched the various insurance companies providing policies in the area and really liked Farmers Insurance. It is new to the area and Nicole is one of the very few agents in the area. The pricing was very competi-tive, service was outstanding and they offered a unique program called the “Confident Planner. This program offers very afford-

able prices to well established and good credit customers. Nicole really felt offering affordable and dependable insurance would be a “natural fit” for her business and customers.
Farmers Insurance has been open since May 2014 and is conveniently located at 888 Long Pond Road near Ridge Road in Greece. The office is happy to provide quotes and service on Auto, Home, Renter, Life, Business, Motorcycle, Recreational and Umbrella insurances. To find out more about Farmer’s Insurance visit their office or call 225-2100.

Quiet ComfortMany homeowners may think the best gas furnaces are not seen or heard. That’s why and Amana brand AMVM97 Modulating Vari-able-Speed Furnace is insulated for noise reduction. However, the real secret to its unobtrusiveness is that it strives to operate on low capacity as often and as long as possible and, therefore, produces as low as 25% of the normal high-fire and circulating blower sound generated by furnaces with multi-speed motors.Energy EfficiencyEnergy efficiency equates to cost savings. A gas furnace’s efficien-cy rating can primarily be determined by two factors: its AFUE rat-ing (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency), which indicates what per-centage of each dollar of natural gas purchased is actually used to heat your home; and the type of blower used in the furnace.
This Amana brand Modulating, Variable-Speed Furnace offers 97% AFUE, as opposed to lower ratings of less efficient gas furnaces. Its variable-speed blower can improve its efficiency rating and enable the furnace to maintain consistent warmth in low-heat capacity mode without inefficient high-heat surges associated with single speed gas furnaces.

The Buffalo Bill ExperienceThe Greece Historical Society presents the “Buffalo Bill
Experience” on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, 7:00pm at the Greece Public Library.
The Historical Society invites you to, “Hear it in Bill’s own words, as history comes alive!”
In this Buffalo Bill Experience, Colorado-based Buffalo Bill re-enactor/impersonator “Gunny” Jeff Norman guides audiences down the untamed frontier trail that was Buffa-lo Bill Cody’s life, in a costumed living history performance that’s as entertaining as it is informative.
The Buffalo Bill Experience is chock full of all the wagon train driving, Army scouting, Indian fighting, and Pony Ex-press riding adventures that made Buffalo Bill an American icon, gathering legendary friends like Wild Bill Hickok, Kit Carson, Annie Oakley, General George Armstrong Custer, and Sitting Bull along the way.
Modeled after Hal Holbrook’s one-man play “Mark Twain”, Jeff colorfully portrays Buffalo Bill’s amazing “rags to riches to rags” life, blending equal parts humor, drama, and little-known historical anecdotes.
Buffalo Bill re-enactor “Gunny” Jeff Norman is a retired US Marine, a former award-winning DoD technical instruc-tor, martial arts instructor, softball coach and guitar teach-er, now residing in Castle Rock, CO.
Reservations are required. Call the Greece Public Library 585-225-8951 or go to the Greece Public Library www.
greecepubliclibrary.org - Calendar Page for online registra-tion. Greece Historical Society members are admitted free. A $3.00 donations is requested from others.

Fourth Annual Wounded Warrior Benefit Concert by Tami Raco
On Saturday August 14, 2015 the streets of Greece were rumbling with the sounds of motorcycles and patriotic vehicles as a motorcade escorted the six Guests of Honor to the 4th Annual Wounded Warrior Benefit Concert. The event began with an opening ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park in Greece. Immediately after the ceremony the motorcade took a 14 mile ride through the town of Greece and was welcomed by friendly residents waving and showing their patriotism to the Guest of Honor Veter-ans. The final destination was the Wounded Warrior Ben-efit Concert that took place at the Greece American Legion Post 468 on Dorsey Road.
This year, the Wounded Warrior Guests of Honor were Lyndon Villone veteran of the Marine Corps, Rick Yarosh veteran of the Army, Dan Gearinger veteran of the Marine Corps, Patrick LaJuitt veteran of the Marine Corps, James Auld veteran of the Army, and Robert Kinsel veteran of the Army. In addition to the six guests of honor, local disabled veteran Andrew Hand was recognized. Andrew is a local vet who is an avid motorcyclist, he recently suffered a de-bilitating stroke. Since he is no longer able to ride his Har-ley, Andrew was escorted to the concert in a special Harley Davidson side cart.
Post Commander Ralph Presciutti, with the support of the Post Team, has been hosting these benefits for the past four years to help support the efforts of various non-profit organizations for the work they do in helping our nation’s Wounded Warriors. One million men and women from the nation’s military have been wounded since 2001. Many are
not only recovering from physical trauma but also from in-visible wounds of war, which include post traumatic stress disorder, depression, and traumatic brain injuries.
This year’s Wounded Warrior Benefit raised almost $25,000 in net proceeds, which were allocated to these three beneficiaries.
NY Warrior Alliance -This non-profit group helps support the wounded military members and their caregivers by honoring their service with donations to aide in their reha-bilitation. The funding is supported through donations that are received from the community and other non-profit or-ganizations. This alliance helps wounded vets from New York State, they work with Veterans at the Walter Reed Hospital and at Ft. Drum. Visit www.nywarrioralliance.org/ for more information.
Sweethearts and Heroes -This is an organization that helps educate society about the impact that bullying has on all of our schools, our neighborhoods, and individuals. This non-profit organization is led by Rick Yarosh who works the community through speaking engagements. Rick is a retired Sergeant with the United States Army. After severe and permanent injuries in Iraq, severe burns over 60% of his body, loss of his leg, both ears, nose and multiple fin-gers, Rick spent six months in the hospital recovering. He has many speaking engagements on his resume, including sports teams, schools, churches, military, non-profits, etc. His message is one of overcoming adversity and turning a negative situation into a positive. Heel The Heroes - This new non-profit organization is based in Texas but was founded by Rochester native and Marine Corps Veteran, Lyndon Villone. This uniquely struc-tured organization helps wounded Veterans obtain a better quality of life while being empowered with tools to conduct a successful reintegration into society. The program also helps with management of disability symptoms with the use of canine and equine therapy. Lyndon hopes to help
Rochester Veterans by introducing them to this program and facility in late 2016. Visit www.shiftmedia.us/heelthe-heroes/ for more information.
In addition to the three primary beneficiaries of this event, Cars for Heroes also had a presence at the concert. They selected a local veteran in need, Robert Kinzel, and provided a reliable car to him. For more information on this program visit www.cars4heroes.org/

The Original Zarpentine Farmsby Barbara Burke
GreeceNewsNY.com - Retail Business of the Month
Zarpentine Farms located at 163 Burritt Road in Hilton is lo-cated on 98 acres of land with almost 200 years of family farming history. Owner Ron Zarpentine has been working on the farm for over 50 years, “It’s in my heart and in my blood, my dad put me on a tractor at 3 years old,” Ron says, “And I still just love it.”
The Original Zarpentine Farm Market is open 7 days a week from 9AM to 5PM selling the freshest in-season fruits, vegeta-bles and baked goods. In season produce includes apples, pears, cabbage, tomatoes, several varieties of squash, cucumbers, red and white potatoes, onions, sweet corn, and peppers and more. “We sell what we grow, 95% of the produce we sell on this farm we grow on this farm to support our family farm,” Ron says.
Apples and fresh-pressed Sweet Apple Cider are a Fall favor-ites at Zarpentines. Starting in early September, and available as they ripen, are 18 varieties of A#1 fancy fresh apples starting at less than 40¢ a pound when purchased by the bushel. “We are open all year round and have apples available through the winter months because we have our own cold storage right here on the farm,” Ron Zarpentine says.
In their Bakery everything is made fresh daily. Original Zarpen-tine Farms is known for their famous Apple Fritters which are available glazed, cinnamon and plain. “The apple fritters are what many people come to our bakery for. Customers tell me they are so tasty and that the full flavor of the apples comes through. It is true we use lots of fresh, diced apples in our frit-ters,” Ron says. The bakery is also know for their fry cakes avail-able plain, cinnamon sugar, marble glaze, regular glazed, choco-late and chocolate sugar varieties, and they have 16 varieties of fresh baked pies to choose from including several variations on apple, peach, cherry, pecan, pumpkin and more. The bakery has other selections of cookies, cinnamon rolls and brownies avail-able at the bakers’ choice.
Fall is an exciting time of the year at the Original Zarpentine Farm, it is Corn Maize time and this year they are celebrating the 15th Anniversary of their maize. Zarpentine’s Corn Maize is designed over 20 acres with 7 miles of walking trails. They have 10-15 security guards stationed around the maize to guide visi-tors with directions, to assist if a quick exit is needed, to answer general questions, and the security guards also participate in a token finding competition that visitors can compete in during their walk through the maize and receive a prize after complet-ing.
This year the design of the maize is Pac-Man. “We have a 40 x 50 ft. ticket booth where people can enjoy some refreshments, sit, relax, have some food and a beverage and just enjoy the farm while they wait for others to complete the maize. We also have some retro video games for visitors to play. We have Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong,” Ron says.
Zarpentine’s also has a corn box where kids 6 years old and un-der can play and a playground, slides and swings for young fami-lies to enjoy. They have a Corn Cannon where visitors compete to shoot an ear of corn over 500 ft. to try to get it into a barrel. Prizes include $5 for getting the ear of corn into the large barrel and a $50 prize for the small barrel.
Ron is the host for Zarpentine’s Wagon Ride Tour which is 25-
30 minute excursion across the entire farm. Ron tells the history of the farm and points out the interesting aspects of life on a family farm across the years. A visit to the maple grove where they tap the trees in the spring to produce their own maple syr-up is included in the ride. “We do our wagon rides during day-light hours only. We aren’t out to scare anybody, we are a family friendly farm. People ask me if I ever stop talking, I laugh and tell them “no.” I just love to share the history of our farm and what I know about farming,” Ron says.
The Wagon Ride Farm Tour is available on Saturdays from 11AM to Sundown and on Sundays 11AM to 5PM, there are no wagon tours on Fridays.
Zarpentine’s Famous Corn Maize opened for the season on Fri-day, September 18, 2015.

Empowering Greece Residents to keep their community safe by Tami Raco
When a Neighborhood Watch Group works in conjunction with their local Police Department it can help educate the resi-dents to reduce the risk of being victimized at home and in public, as well as improve quality of life issues.
Sergeant Jared René is the Neighborhood Watch Coordinator at the Greece Police Department. He works with 20-25 Neigh-borhood Watch Groups and Neighborhood Associations in Greece. The Watch Groups vary in their level of interaction with the police based on their individual needs. The Greece Police Department pro-vides the groups with support in various ways based on their individual needs and concerns. Sergeant René issues a monthly email to the Neighborhood Watch leaders that helps update the residents on information pertinent to them. In his monthly newsletter he will often include infor-mation on crime, sex offenders, home safety tips, pointers for parents on child safety, Animal Control Office informa-tion as well as addressing quality of life concerns.
The neighborhood watch groups are structured accord-ing to the needs of the neighborhood. Many watch groups
will establish a phone tree, email chain, and schedule regular meetings, often including the Greece Police De-partment. Some of the more active neighborhood watch groups in Greece will meet two times a month and offer presentations on topics of concerns. Sgt. René will often
attend the meetings and provide resources and training on the current topics of con-cerns. Some of the topics include; drug and alcohol abuse awareness, home/personal safety tips, crime trends/statistic updates and sex offender registry information.
If you and your neighbors are interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch group here are some suggestions on how to get started. • Define what a neighborhood watch group is and isn’t and research your neigh-
borhood’s concerns and crime problems. • Define the boundaries of your group. Smaller neighborhood groups are easier to manage. • Poll the neighbors to see if you have enough inter-est to form a cohesive group.• Designate a leader to help coordinate the meetings and manage the organization as well as to interface with the Greece Police. • Schedule an appointment with Greece Police Ser-geant René for further assistance.

Senior’s Butterfly Garden part of Seneca Park Zoo Project Summer has ended and the monarch butterflies are on
their way south to Mexico, yet the residents at the Gardens at Town Center are anticipating a rejuvenated visit by the them next spring.
The Gardens at Town Center, constructed by Home Leas-ing LLC, is located in Greece (off of Latta and Long Pond Road). This affordable, independent senior housing com-munity partnered with the Seneca Park Zoo’s Butterfly Beltway Project on August 7, 2015 to plant a butterfly Gar-den and became a “rest stop” on the migrating path of the Monarchs. The garden was planted on the north side of the building around the flag pole. The garden measures approximately 100 square feet and features 11 different species of plants. Tim Fowler, Seneca Park Zoo’s outreach coordinator, conducted a presentation about the Monarch migration and the large-scale conservation effort to cre-ate “rest stops” for butterflies through designated gardens across the region. Fowler said the selection of plants is highly important. Although the plants attract any type of pollinator (including bees and hummingbirds), they were
primarily chosen to attract butterflies. Because the plants have to provide an ample supply of nectar for numerous butterflies over an extended season, blooming patterns have to alter among the species of plants chosen. These plants will provide shelter along with key nutrients to help butterfly development from an egg to an adult. Fun fact - the Monarch is a key indicator of how healthy our envi-ronment is.
The Butterfly Release took place around the flag pole as residents held hands to create “launching pads” to release five Monarch Butterflies. Children and adults alike were able to take part in the release, watching as the butterflies flitter and float up to the sunny sky. The celebration con-cluded with butterfly cupcakes and a large cake created by resident Elizabeth Bartello, her daughter-in-law Carla, and granddaughter Sarah Rae.
The Seneca Park Zoo’s Butterfly Beltway Project has been engaging and inspiring members of the community in but-terfly conservation since 2002. To date more than 8,000 square-feet of habitat have been created and restored.

Lamplighter Restaurantby Tami Raco
Lamplighter Restaurant is located at 831 Fetzner Road in Creekside Plaza at the corner of Maiden Lane in Greece. With the reputation for some of the best continental cui-sine in Greece, they have been serving mouthwatering, high quality dinners for the past 45 years.
This quaint restaurant is well known for their special oc-casion dinners as well as being a great everyday place to go for cocktails or dinner. A customer favorite menu item is their renowned Portofino which is lobster, crab, shrimp and scallops served over pasta with kalamata olives arti-choke hearts, olive oil and imported cheese.
The Lamplighter Restaurant offers a full menu of con-tinental cuisine, steak, seafood and pasta. They feature authentic German food during the months of March and September.
Lampligher has been open for 45 years and was found-ed by Nick Castronova in 1970. He retired in 2015 and his manager of 21 years, Lisa Seifert, purchased the res-taurant. The long standing Chef is Elliott Rodwell who has been at Lamplighter for 22 years. In addition to Lisa and Chef Rodwell there are also several other long term staff members helping prepare and serve delicious meals to their patrons.
Lamplighter also features a beautiful banquet room that fits up to 50 people. This party room is a perfect place to host Christmas parties, Rehearsal Dinners, Birthdays or any kind of special celebration. Lamplighter’s party menu has many options ranging from cocktails and hors d’oeuvres to a buffet style dinner and sit down dinners. They also offer Italian themed events.
The lounge is open Monday through Saturday 4pm-10pm. The restaurant serves dinner Monday through Sat-urday 4:30pm-9:30pm.
For reservations call 225-2500, or visit www.lamplighter-restaurant.com to learn more about their menu, wine list and monthly specials.
