Chapter LXXI: Security and Trust

In the early hours of the morning, Jordan shivered awake and sat up straight, looking

for warmth. He noticed the heavy blanket wrapped around her midriff and thought abouthow wasteful she was being again. Every night, when she lay down to sleep, she had herblanket up to her neck. By morning, it was only loosely wrapped around her body. Jordanpoked Rin in the back with his long arm.

Rin rolled over to face him. Hm?It's cold, said Jordan with a puppy face.Sleepily, Rin scooted over on her bed. Ten minutes.Okay, said Jordan, climbing onto her bed way too fast.Good night, said Rin, leaving her back to him.Instead of going to sleep, Jordan stared at her back and sighed. She was shivering

too. He moved the blanket around her midriff carefully and then, covered her shoulderswith it. Then, he pulled the blanket slowly until she released half of it for him. In a matterof seconds, the blanket slipped off Rin's shoulders. Jordan was so annoyed by this that hecouldn't sleep.

Right when he moved the blanket up to her shoulders again, Rin muttered, Stop itKristian. It's not going to work. Give it up already.

Jordan was so stunned that he couldn't move and accidentally dropped the blanketon her head. Suffocating, Rin knocked the blanket off angrily and glared at Jordan. Whenshe met Jordan's gray eyes and not Kristian's brown eyes, Rin softened up and sighed. Forthe past few minutes, she thought the person next to her was Kristian. Why? She had noidea. It had been a week since her and Kristian's break up. And yet, her thoughts had been

filled with him for the entire week.Why is it so cold? asked Rin out loud, sighing.Jordan spread his arms out to her. Come here, little puppy.Why? asked Rin skeptically, pouting.It's warmer this way.Rin sighed and moved in closer. I can't beat that logic.Since Rin was right next to him now, Jordan managed to wrap the blanket perfectly

around them without it slipping off her shoulders every few seconds. Thanks to that, theyboth went to sleep peacefully and warmly until later that morning when they both joltedup awake at the loud noise downstairs.

Yawning, Rin crawled out of the bed and left the room in a hurry to check. Jordan

was not a morning person in general so he couldn't sit up long enough to form an opinion onthe situation at hand. Instead, he collapsed back onto the bed and went back to sleep. Hewas still sleeping when Rin returned to her room.

I swear, said Rin, noticing Jordan hiding under the blankets. Father came all theway to America to check up on me, not hang out with his former high school friends!

He has a life, said Jordan under the blankets. Leave him alone.You're not supposed to be on his side!Jordan rolled on his stomach. What time is it anyway?Half an hour until eight.

Holy shit, said Jordan, throwing the blankets off his head and getting up slowly. Ihave volunteer work this morning.

Where do you volunteer at? asked Rin, going up to her mirror and pinning her hairback with hair clips.

At that one hospital, said Jordan lamely. His brain was not functioning yet.I used to volunteer at a hospital too, said Rin, straightening her hair with her

hand. Jordan got off the bed and went over to the same mirror with Rin. He had a combready already. But I took this year off because I heard junior year is hell.It's your fault for taking so many APs, said Jordan, leaving the room in a hurry.I have to, said Rin, following him to the restroom.You never have to do anything, said Jordan in respond, combing his hair in front of

the restroom mirror instead. Rin shrugged and grabbed her brush on top of the sink. Andwhy are you being so fussy with your hair today, Ri-chan? You're not going to an interviewright after practice, are you?

How about you? asked Rin, elevating a lofty brow. You're more into your hair thanusual, Jordan.

Jordan grinned and ruffled her hair. Sandara is mad at me because of you so I have

to sweet-talk her into being friends with me again.How dare you, said Rin, brushing her hair frantically again. And why wouldSandara be mad at you because of me?

Stop it. You're doing it all wrong, said Jordan, taking the brush out of Rin's hands.He began to brush her hair instead. Obviously, Sandara heard about our affair and she wasthere when you and Kristian were planning to meet up at the restaurant, remember? Rinnodded and glanced up at Jordan. She was outraged at how I would even go on a date withher when I was having an affair with you at the time.

You're going to clear up that misunderstanding then? asked Rin curiously.I already cleared that up at school on Wednesday, said Jordan, placing the brush

down and squeezed Rin's midriff instead. I told her I did it out of love and that even

though I had done wrong to Kristian, I would treat you well to make up for it.Rin rolled her eyes. You totally lied to her.I had to, said Jordan, tossing her an innocent look. I can't really tell her that

we're having an emotional affair because I happened to be the right person at the righttime while you and Kristian are going downhill, can I? And I can't really tell her that I'm withyou now because we're trying to loosen Jin's burdens, can I?

I guess not, said Rin with a sigh.Jordan release Rin and leaned against the back wall. Now, I'll have to convince her

to be friends with me again. This is going to be tough.And that is enough for you to make a huge fuss over your hair?Jordan smirked. Are you jealous?

Why should I be jealous over you? asked Rin, rubbing sunscreen over her arms.You never answered my question, said Jordan accusingly. Rin tilted her head. Why

are you being all fussy today? It's not like I don't see you at your worst already, Ri-chan.I'm not doing it to please anybody, especially not you, said Rin, putting sunscreen

on her legs now. While Jordan was under the blankets, she changed quickly. I feel like it.There doesn't need to be a real reason.

You're hoping Kristian will show up for practice? asked Jordan in amusement.Blushing, Rin shook her head frantically. He's not going to show up anyways! He

hasn't been to school in five days!

And he took a vacation week off work too, said Jordan in addition.That too, said Rin, reddening further. I'm only dressing up to please myself! Can't

girls dress up to please themselves instead of other people?You're being defensive, said Jordan, singing the words.Rin turned her back on him, upset. Jordan, can you please change and drop me off

at school already?

You should, said Jordan, wrapping his arm around her neck. Help me, Ri-chan.Get lost.Will do, said Jordan, laughing and leaving the restroom ahead of her. Then, he

backtracked and stepped back inside. After a quick shower.It better be quick, said Rin, glaring. I'm going to be late!If you help me, said Jordan, glancing away innocent. It'll be quicker.Stupid Jordan, said Rin, slamming the door in his face. She could hear Jordan

laughing on the other side. He's acting more and more like Kristian, I swear. He knowsexactly what to say to push my buttons.

Back in her room, Rin stared at herself in the mirror once more. Her hair had grownslightly longer. Since Rin hated her hair long, she told herself that she had to get a haircut

soon. Ever since Monday, Rin had suffered attacks all week from everyone around her. Shemanaged to live through the week by telling herself that she would endure it all withJordan. She deserved every one of those insults. She had no right to fight back. Other thanthat, the Calculus tutoring sessions she had with Jordan for those couple of days of theweek really helped her get by.

I want to see him again, thought Rin to herself. I want to know if he's okay...Ri-chan, I'm back.Rin broke from her thoughts and turned to Jordan. That was quick.I said that already, didn't I? asked Jordan, drying his hair with a towel.Hurry up and change, said Rin, walking toward the door. I'll wait downstairs.Wait, said Jordan, grabbing her arm to stop her. You want to go somewhere after

practice is over?Rin blinked. Like where?We can figure that out later, said Jordan, smiling sweetly.You won't ditch me at the last minute, will you? asked Rin suspiciously.I really can't do that when I don't have any friends, but you.For a second there, Rin heard regret and sadness in his voice. On his face though,

Jordan looked perfectly fine. Actually, he seemed more content than he had been sincefreshman year. Rin knew she shouldn't be nosy and pester him about his life. On the otherhand, she should accept his answer and move on. As long as she knew how he really felt onthe inside, there was no need for her to speak them out loud.

I'll see you at the front after practice then, said Rin with a weak smile.

Is that the kind of smile you give your boyfriend? asked Jordan, poking her cheek.Rin stuck out her tongue and left in a hurry. Go to hell, bastard.Kristian, said Jordan out loud to himself after he closed and locked the door. He

took off his shirt and stared at himself in the mirror. If I make Ri-chan happy for the restof her junior year, will you forgive me?

*****************************************************************That morning, Jezebelle woke up early to watch television in the living room. In the

middle of the show, Jezebelle noticed Jin passing by without a word. Curious, Jezebellefollowed him, only to find him wearing his shoes to leave. Even though Jezebelle wanted to

return to her show, she thought this was somewhat important for her to speak out.Where are you going?Jin tossed her a side way glance. When did you start caring?Isn't there supposed to be a time limit on how long you're supposed to remain a

douche bag? asked Jezebelle, wrapping her arms in front of her chest.A smirk played on Jin's cruel lips. And isn't there supposed to be a fine line on how

bitchy a girl can be?Jezebelle was unaffected as she continued, You're so going to regret messing withme when you come back.

Suddenly, Jin burst out laughing. Jezebelle lifted a brow. What was so funny? Sincelast Monday, Jin hadn't come back from his absence. The person who came back home thatnight wasn't Jin. It was this person. He was supposed to leave by now and bring Jin back.Instead, he had stayed to this very day. Most people in school didn't even notice thanks toher covering it up for him. There was no possible way she could cover up for him muchlonger.

Come back? asked Jin, throwing his arms out. Please. Why should I come back?My underwear is dirty, said Jezebelle, glaring.

Jin laughed some more. Do it yourself then. Don't treat me like a slave.You chose to be my slave, said Jezebelle, flinging her hair back.Well, that slave of yours is out of commission, said Jin, clicking his tongue. He

banged open the door. So long, baby.After Jin slammed the door closed, Jezebelle wrapped her arms in front of her chest

and thought to herself about how she had met such a challenging opponent. Jezebellewondered how long she had to fight this war before she dragged Jin back to his senses.When she turned around to return to her show, she noticed both Jin's parents glaring at her.Jezebelle should have seen this coming.

What have you done to my son?Jezebelle crossed her legs under the table and shrugged. Nothing really.

He has never behaved this way before!Jin is a very good boy. He has always been a good boy.Maybe that's why he's finally had enough, said Jezebelle in interruption. Both of

Jin's parents stopped talking momentarily. Isn't it strange that a boy his age never wentthrough a rebellious stage? Isn't it strange that he's more mature at the age of ten thanmost boys at the age of eighteen? Jezebelle slammed the table. Isn't it so fucking strangethat a sixteen-year-boy has to run this entire household by himself for God knows howfucking long before his parents notice his other side?

Because of Jezebelle's words, neither of them could say anything in respond. Rightafterward, Jezebelle dashed up the stairs right and dressed herself up in her best clothes.She called Wendy on her cell phone and waited a few minutes before her sidekick picked

her up from Jin's house. Wendy knew Jezebelle was in a terrible mood so she didn't sayanything as they went inside her car. On the entire car ride to Juliet's house, Jezebellestared out of the window with a distant look on her face.

I've become too attached to him, thought Jezebelle to herself. Even though Iswore to myself that I would never be attached to anyone new again.

***************************************************************During lunch break, Sandara managed to get Jordan and Penny to sit at the same

table. Even though Sandara was slightly upset with Jordan for what he did, she had forgivenhim after he told her that he would cherish and love Rin Hamada. If Sandara weren't there

at the restaurant when he kept glancing over in her direction, she wouldn't have believedhim. But with that proof, Sandara thought it was safe to assume that Jordan had been inlove with Rin all this time and that he couldn't help himself but had an affair with her. Inaddition, since Rin hadn't fought back against the rumors, it seemed like the affair wasmutual. In the end, it was good that Jordan took responsibility and stayed with her now.

I'm surprised, said Sandara in a teasing voice. You're actually a sucker for

intelligent girls, aren't you?Intelligent? asked Jordan, surprised. He laughed. Not really.Hardworking girls then?Jordan shook his head. Not that either.Sandara puffed her cheeks. Let's see. Serious girls?I don't really care whether a girl is serious or playful.This is getting harder, said Sandara, tapping her fork against her bowl of salad.

Hey Penny. You're smart. Why do you think Jordan likes Rin Hamada?Penny lifted her eyes from her vegetables at them. Love is an illusion. It is a trick of

the mind and body to help human kind survive by reproducing.You really do suck the fun out of everything, don't you? asked Jordan, sighing.

That's Penny for you, said Sandara, winking at Penny.If you must know my deduction in regards as to why he is with Rin Hamada, saidPenny after she swallowed her food. It is obviously to sabotage Rin Hamada so that shewon't be able to become the next leader of the Elites. He is secretly mad that Rin Hamada'sbest friend taking his popular position and is taking it out on her instead.

Sandara laughed loudly. What a conspiracy!Jordan blinked at Penny. I can't tell. Was that a joke?It's more plausible than you falling in love with her, said Penny, standing abruptly.

The chances of you being homosexual are far higher.Paling slightly, Jordan cried after her, I'm homophobic, damn it!I know you're not gay, Jordan, said Sandara, smiling cutely up at him. You've

dated way too many girls to be gay.Right, said Jordan, feigning a smile back.After lunch break was over and Sandara had left the room, Jordan shivered slightly at

Penny's words. He had never thought of anything like that. He would never do anything tohurt either Jin or Rin. They were the only two friends he had left. Bo was too scary to countas a real friend. Kristian was most likely not his friend anymore. Victoria and Frida werebanned from being his friend.

And out of those two friends, there was only one who he could truly be with and talkto. At that thought, Jordan smiled to himself and sent her a text message, telling her thathe was almost done volunteering and that he would pick her up from school right after. Onhis way to the volunteer office, he thought about how she would respond. She would

probably say something mean because that would be so like her.***************************************************************

When Rin got together with Kristian more than a month ago, she thought that thatrelationship would last forever. At first, she hadn't thought about it, but as time went on,she thought that no matter what happened between them, they would make up andcontinue as a couple. They would eventually get married and have children. Even thoughshe had never told Kristian that, he must have known. He shared those feelings too, shewas sure of it. That was why they couldn't stay away from each other for long.

In the end, they broke up anyways. Kristian made it sound like it had been

inevitable. Rin firmly believed that they would eventually as well, but they would alsomake up and get back together. Ever since they broke up that Sunday, Rin had regretted it.Rin kept telling herself that she should have tried harder. If she had, Kristian would haveeasily given in and stayed with her. Of course, that was impossible at this point. Instead,Rin wanted to see Kristian once more. She wanted to see if despite everything, theirfeelings for each other remained. If so, at least they had a chance to be together with one

another in the future. She held onto this hope.In name, indeed, Rin was dating someone else. Everyone in school thought it wasinevitable anyways. But for both her and Jordan, they both knew it was only temporary. ForJordan, he made it perfectly clear with his previous actions and words that he had aproblem staying committed to one girl. For Rin, she made it perfectly clear with herprevious relationship with Kristian that she would not get ahead of herself and believe thatshe and whoever she was with would last. If it couldn't work out between her and someoneshe truly loved, how could it be possible with her and her new best friend? Amazinglyenough, without the thought of commitment, they were both content with theirrelationship. Nothing had changed much between them and it was fine that way.

Dressed in nice, girly clothes as well as with her hair pulled up like Jordan

recommended, Rin walked inside Wilson High toward the band room with low expectationsof seeing Kristian again. It made her feel slightly stupid for dressing up in the first placewhen she was almost certain she wouldn't see him today. Thanks to that small possibility,she went out of her way for nothing. She felt like one of those girls with childish crushes onsome popular boy in school right now.

You look beautiful, Rin Hamada!Rin blushed bright red at the sight of Nathan grinning at her from the doorway and

muttered, Thanks Nathan.What's the occasion? asked Nathan, motioning for Rin to come closer to him.

Going on a date with your boyfriend after practice?None of your business, said Rin, pouting.

It's true then! said Nathan, laughing loudly and throwing his head back. He wassitting on his favorite rolling chair like always. The two boys inside will be crushed to hearthis! Rin tilted her head. More so because our other lovely lady isn't here yet!

Two boys... said Rin, naming the people of her group in her head. You mean...Hey fatty. Pass the potato chips.At the sight of Kristian casually laying his head on top of Nathan's shoulder and

stealing the bag of potato chips out of Nathan's hands, Rin felt relieved more than anythingelse. Kristian appeared to be have returned to normal. Other than having slightly darkerskin than usual, nothing else had changed about Kristian. Rin felt content and at ease untilKristian met her eyes. For that split second their eyes met, Rin's heart beat rapidly out ofcontrol. Her heart never beat this fast without warning before.

Kristian placed a whole chip in his mouth and threw a thumb over his shoulder, I'mbored as fuck and I don't like staring at Edwin all day. Let's start already.

Since Rin Hamada is here, said Nathan, jumping out of his chair. We can start.Aren't we going to wait for Faith too? asked Kristian, pushing the bag of potato

chips back into Nathan's arms.Faith already told me that he's coming an hour late thanks to dress rehearsal.This early in the year? asked Kristian in disbelief.Nathan took a handful of chips out of the bag. You know how it is, Kristian. They

hold auditions at the end of the school year at around May and start as early as August.

The whole drama club is on campus, I suppose? asked Kristian curiously.I doubt that, said Nathan, dropping a chip into his mouth. It's probably only Faith,

Cerina, and their producer. You know how Faith has seniority in the club and thatpersonality of getting everything done himself going for him.

Sucks, said Kristian, shaking his head sadly. And here I thought I might have achance to say hello to Sandara.

Nathan laughed and wrapped his arm around Kristian's shoulder. You bastard! Howmany girls do you have to attack now that you're single?Who says I'm single? asked Kristian, licking his lips.Shit. You're not?Kristian led Nathan inside with a smirk playing on his face. I'll tell you later in

private, Nathan, when other people aren't around.Blinking, Rin realized that during the entire conversation Kristian had with Nathan,

he didn't bother to look at her or address her even once. Although Kristian had done itsmoothly, Rin could tell that he deliberately left her out of the conversation and ignoredlooking at her completely. No, everything was not back to normal at all. The Kristian sheknew before they got together would have attacked her with playful remarks. This Kristian

before her was different than before. There was something unsettling about him.Throughout the whole practice, Kristian concentrated on the piano. Edwin andNathan stayed focused on their sheet music and instruments as well. But for Rin, shecouldn't help but glance over at Kristian now and again. She had to create an opportunityfor herself to talk to him no matter what. If they couldn't be together like before, at leastthey could continue from here on as friends.

A tall girl with black curls walked inside their room in the middle of practice andcombed her fingers through her hair. I'm sorry for being late to practice guys.

Nathan blinked at her. I don't think the cheerleaders are meeting in the band roomtoday, but if you want me to escort you on the way out, Nathan grinned brightly. I'll bemore than happy to.

The other three watched as the girl marched up to Nathan and dragged him insidethe storage room by the collar. After some punching and screaming, the two of them exitedthe room with Nathan bruised and injured from top to bottom. Nathan tried to smile at theother three who were gaping at him with wide eyes.

It's Faith, said Nathan, laughing. He sure fooled me.Edwin chuckled. Nathan, you fool.Oh Faith, said Rin, cheering up. You look pretty.Anyone can look pretty with make-up on, said Faith, sighing. It's disgusting.Are you dressing up for the play? asked Kristian curiously, sitting by his piano.Faith nodded in confirmation. Cerina and I are playing the same role for this

upcoming winter play.

Nice, said Kristian with a smile.Not nice, said Faith, shaking his head. I wanted to play the role of a man...You can't ask for the impossible, Faith, said Nathan, laughing loudly.Faith glared at Nathan. Do you want me to break your arm?I'll be good! said Nathan, hiding behind Edwin.At the sight of a timid Nathan, Faith smiled in satisfaction as he indicated at his

drums. Are we going to practice today, perhaps?Waiting for Faith to pass by her, Rin mustered up the courage to ask in a low tone,

Faith, may I talk to you about something after practice?

Faith stared at her for a few seconds before he answered, Is this about what isgoing on with your relationships?

Yes... said Rin, slightly surprised at how perceptive Faith was.Faith sighed regrettably. Rin Hamada, you have to remember that I'm not really a

girl. I was raised as a boy. I've never even been to the girls' restroom in my life.Oh... right...

If it's you Rin Hamada, said Faith, petting her on the head fondly. You'll be fine.Even though Rin took Faith's words to heart, Rin felt insecure about being invisible toKristian. It was as if the last month never happened between them. Actually, it was as if thelast two years never happened between them. They were two perfect strangers. He refusedto talk to her. She had no clue what to say to him. What happened to Kristian during thatfour day period when he had been missing? Had he done something to completely forgether? If so, she wanted to get that cure too, because it getting harder by the minute to stayin the same room as him. She was suffocating.

At the end of practice, Nathan came bouncing out of the storage room and cried outloud, Let's all go to lunch together! How about it guys?

I don't want to hang out with you longer than I have to, said Faith coldly.

Edwin shook his head. I can't. I have an appointment right after this.You guys suck, said Nathan after them as they both entered the storage roomtogether. Then, he latched himself to Rin and Kristian. How about you two? Rin Hamada?Kristian? Why don't you two join me?

No thank you, said Kristian, chuckling. I have a date after this.Me too! said Rin hastily, staring straight at Kristian, who ignored her. I do too!Nathan lifted a brow at them. Wait a second. What happen between you two

anyways? I remember how I got you both as a two for one deal for my quintet.We should leave the past behind us, said Kristian, licking his lips. He pocketed his

hands. I'll be going then. See you on Monday, Nathan.Without waiting for Nathan's respond, Kristian waved and hurried out of the room.

Rin knew he was escaping. He remembered. He hadn't taken a pill and forgotten abouteverything. He just chose to not deal with it. With that bit of hope, Rin dashed out of theroom after him and noticed him at a fair distance. He still loved her right? His heart stillbeat fast around her too right?

Rin took in a deep breath and cried after him, Kristian! Why are you ignoring me?For a second, she noticed that Kristian stopped walking to decide what to do. He

acted like he had heard nothing and continued forward. Breaking out in tears, Rin ran afterhim. However, when she was inches away from him, she stopped in her tracks. She almostreached out to him. She almost hugged him from the back like they used to. But shecouldn't hug him... not when he was with someone and she was with someone else... notwhen they were both going on separate dates.

At least be a man, said Rin under her breath, stopping right behind him. He wasmoving farther away by the second. At least face me.

I don't want to hurt you, said Kristian, refusing to turn around at her. I don't wantto have to say this, but you leave me no choice. Rin trembled at his words. You are justlike any other girlfriend I've ever dated. I make them all to love me. I ask them all to marryme. My only regret is that I didn't hold onto you long enough so that I can keep my goodnickname intact. Tears flowed down from Rin's eyes. I even let you do something sohorrible to me in return. I was careless.

Rin bit her lip and then muttered, You're lying, Kristian. Why do you keep lying?

You shouldn't accuse people.I know you are because, said Rin, stopping at the front gate with Kristian. For all

your previous girlfriends, you never ignored them the way you did to me in that room.Kristian laughed out loud once and headed toward his car. Tired of trying to convince

him, Rin remained at her spot and watched as Kristian drove away. She stayed there for afew minutes before she received another text message from Jordan. He had parked across

the street from where she was a second ago. Holding the fresh tears back, Rin waited forthe light before she crossed and searched for Jordan's car. It didn't take long.Politely, Jordan got out of his car and beamed at Rin, That was quick. Jordan's

eyes widened at the sight of Rin's sad face. What... Jordan quickly maneuvered aroundthe car to Rin's side. Ri-chan, did something happen? Did you... Rin sniffed back thetears. Did you meet Kristian?

Jo-kun, said Rin in a trembling voice. It's hard... to... talk about... it... here...Understanding her, Jordan helped her inside the passenger seat. Then, he went

around quickly and inside his car. Once both doors were closed, Rin burst into tears andcried against her arm. Jordan was about to turn on the engine when he heard her weepingnoise next to him. Sympathetic, Jordan grabbed a hold of Rin's wrist and forced her to lay

her head against his shoulder instead. He had been anxiously waiting for his volunteer hoursto be over with so he could be with her again, only to have her like this. Jordan blamedhimself for getting her hopes up by brushing her hair this morning.

I talked to Kristian... said Rin after she was done crying.Oh...Rin clutched onto Jordan's arm. He ignored me the whole time during practice and I

only got a chance to talk to him afterward.How... said Jordan, picking his words carefully. ...did that go?Kristian doesn't want to talk to me anymore, said Rin, hurt. I know it's because

we've been through a lot and he's hurt, but he's the one who told me to break up with him.Why... is he like this? I don't understand.

There are some things we can't do or say, said Jordan, sighing.'We'?Boys in general.I see...Jordan rubbed her head. I'm not good at saying the words you want to hear, Ri-

chan. I'm not even good at giving advice on what you should do next. But, Jordan stoppedand lifted his hand off her head. I'm always here when you need me.

I'm throwing that baggage at you again, aren't I? asked Rin, lowering her eyes.I wouldn't say it like that.You even told me not to do that on dates, said Rin, peering up at him quickly.

When he was in front of her, he followed Rin's gaze to see a groupof girls in the corner of the store staring at him. At the sight of him returning their stares,they hid and whispered to each other.

You're so slow, said Jordan, ignoring them and grabbing a hold of Rin's hand.

What are you doing? asked Rin, jerking her hand away out of reflex.Jordan frowned. Are you okay?It's nothing.It's never nothing.Sighing, Rin passed by Jordan and said, I'm not good at shopping, that's all.When Rin stopped in front of the black, one-piece swimsuits, Jordan accidentally

laughed at her. Rin turned her head and glared at him. Jordan waved it off and rubbed herhead. Rin pouted and returned her attention to the swimsuits. At last, Jordan subsided hislaughter and stared at her with a serious expression on his face.

swimsuits. There were a lot of pink, white, red, and blue. Rin thought of Kristian again atthe sight of the red swimsuits. She really wanted to get a red one. On the other hand, shewanted to get anything but a red one. She couldn't make up her mind. It had already beenfour days, but he occupied her thoughts constantly. Maybe it was because she finally methim again earlier today. Thankfully, Jordan was taking this quite well, Rin thought. If shewere Jordan, she would be fed up with herself by now.

Come now, said Jordan, snatching the cherry swimsuit. Let's not make a scene.Soon enough, Rin sat down inside the dressing room. Jordan closed the door behind

him and collapsed in a seat next to her. Rin was busy wiping her wet cheeks thanks to thetears. Jordan sighed and felt horrible. He shouldn't have tried so hard to make her go outon a date so early after her breakup. He shouldn't have mentioned Kristian's name so

carelessly earlier. He should have been more considerate of her feelings.It's okay, said Jordan suddenly, gaining Rin's attention after a long period ofsilence. I don't mind at all. I don't mind anything.

I mind.If I leave and hang out with the other girls instead, said Jordan, gazing at her.

Jordan wrapped his long arm around Rin's neck and held her head against his chest. I toldyou this a million times already. You're my friend, Ri-chan. And friends are more importantto me than anything else in the world. I'll never leave my friend behind for some girls.

It's so unfair to you though, said Rin sadly.If you know it's unfair to me, said Jordan, holding her head away from him and

wiped his forehead with the back of his arm.I need to move out soon, thought Jordan to himself, leaving the restroom andreturning to the dressing rooms. This is too much for me to handle.

After another ten minutes, Rin opened the door just enough to show her eyes. Shemotioned Jordan quickly to come in. At first, Jordan hesitated because he had a bad feelinghe might do something horrible to Rin if he had to stay in a close space with her. But after aterrifying glare from her, Jordan was too scared to tell her to come out instead.

Once Jordan was inside, Rin twirled around in her cherry two-piece, Is this childlikeenough for you? Or should I wear a one-piece with flowers instead?

I'm not a pedophile, said Jordan in a joking voice.So? asked Rin, going up to Jordan. You decide. You're paying remember?

I changed my mind, said Jordan, keeping his eyes away from her. Jordan placed hiswallet on top of Rin's head. It fell and she caught it against her chest. It's your swimsuit.You should decide what color and what design you want. I'm going outside to wait.

Rin lifted a brow. You're not being emo again, are you?I'm afraid of pain, said Jordan in a lowered voice. I'm not going to hurt myself.Your cards and everything are in here, said Rin, holding his wallet up to his face.You're in charge now, Ri-chan, said Jordan, meeting her eyes at last and petting

her on the head fondly. After you're done, I'll give you my info to my e-mail and socialnetworks and everything.

Rin frowned. Why?I have a million e-mails from random girls and comments and I need someone

reliable to delete them all.Why does it have to be me?I'm lazy and you're not and we live together.Without waiting for Rin's respond, Jordan quickly left the room. Rin sat down and

And yet, his wallet was next to her. He gave her complete freedom. He had beenthere for her before and during her breakup with Kristian. He had been understanding and

Most importantly, besides Jin, Jordan was the first person to truly trust her. Trust.Rin thought about what Sherry told her a long time ago when she asked Sherry whether sheloved Kristian or not. Rin's eyes widened. Could it be? Could that be the answer?

At the beach, after Jordan laid the blanket on the ground, Rin sat down and ate the

late lunch he bought for her. She watched as he took off to surf. He really loved surfing.There was always two surfboards attached on top of his car. Why didn't she notice thesethings before?

Holding her knees to her chest after she was done with her food, Rin thought aboutthe last time she was at the beach like this. She was with Jezebelle, who helped her thinkof a present to give Kristian. The picture idea was what they ended up with. It was lessthan a month ago, but it felt so long ago. Everything had changed so much since then.

Rin laughed to herself, I can't believe my first date was with another girl.Growing sleepy, Rin laid her head down on top of the blanket. The sun was already

setting. How long had she sat here, thinking about Kristian and all those happy days in thepast with Jin and Bo? Rin watched as Jordan threw his head back and allowed his wet hair

to fall into his eyes. As expected, he was surrounded by other surfer boys and other girls inswimming suits. He smiled brightly as he chatted with them. Rin smiled as well to herself asshe blinked her eyes sleepily. She remembered how she didn't want to go to the beachbefore because she was afraid that she would run into Jordan Greene, the monster whowould call her Nerd and made fun of her. How funny that she was here with him willingly.

Ri-chan? asked Jordan, crouching down in front of her. Are you asleep already?Jo-kun, said Rin, yawning. Her eyes were closed. I figured it out.Figured what out? asked Jordan, confused.Rin smiled peacefully. The reason why Kristian and I didn't work out.I know it's because of me already.No, it's not, said Rin, lowering her voice. She was drifting off to sleep. It's

because I didn't trust him and... Tears dripped down her face despite the smile on herface. He didn't trust me.Ri-chan...Isn't it sad that when you really love someone, you become jealous and stop trusting

them? asked Rin, sniffing again. Isn't it sad that you only want that person to be with youand you can't stand it when that person is with someone else?

Jordan knew that feeling well. Yes.But friends trust each other right? asked Rin before she added quickly, I mean

true friends right?Yes.Rin laughed weakly and wiped her wet cheeks. Is that why you trust me, Jo-kun?

Of course, said Jordan, petting her on the head. You're my best friend.That's why...Jordan leaned in toward her and whispered, Why?That's why I hope we never fall in love.How silly, said Jordan, picking her head up and placing it on his lap. Rin was

sleeping soundly now. I don't deserve to love Jin... or you... or anyone else. Jordanstopped himself and sighed. No, it's not that. It's because I can't love anyone when,Jordan started to tear up as well. When I have trouble loving myself.
