    Gorgeous GeekChapter LXII: Court Advantage

    Chapter LXII: Court Advantage

A few minutes before the end of lunch, Jin stood on top of the bleachers, observing

the football field below him closely. In his head, he made quick calculations to himself. Ifhe were to gather supporters for Jezebelle's game, he had to match or beat the amount ofstudents who come to these football games. In other words, he needed to gather enoughpeople to fill up these bleachers. Jin frowned to himself and thought it over.

Besides football games, said Jin out loud, narrowing his eyes. What other timesdo we gather a lot of people here?

Graduation. At the familiar voice, Jin shifted his attention to the girl sitting in a couple of

bleachers below him. It was none other than Tiffany with a melancholy expression on herface. She squeezed her black notebook close to her chest. Smiling playfully at the sight ofher, Jin jumped down the bleachers easily and sat close to her.

Is it me or is it getting hot in here? asked Jin, widening his smile.Tiffany sighed. I'm not really in the mood to play around with you.Tiffany, said Jin, wrapping his arm across her shoulders. Help me out here. What game are you playing this time? asked Tiffany in a tired tone. You said graduation right? asked Jin, using his free arm to indicate the area around

here. You're right, Tiffany. During graduation, a lot of parents and other students gatherhere to watch the seniors graduate on their important night. Jin paused and laughed tohimself. But there's a set date for when graduation is. It's the same with football games. Now, how the hell do you gather this many people without giving them sufficient warningahead of time?

Is that your game? asked Tiffany, lifting a brow. To gather students here?

Jin removed his arm from her and combed through his hair quickly. A very difficultgame indeed. It's like hard mode.

Students themselves have a way to communicate to each other quickly, saidTiffany, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. Why do you think rumors spread soquickly? It's because one person tell someone else who tell a third person and it goes on.

True, said Jin, amused. But it's almost fifth period. I need to win this game beforethe end of school.

That's difficult then, said Tiffany, frowning. You have two periods. The only freetime is passing period. That's only ten minutes though.

Now you see my dilemma. It's impossible then, even with texting and other cell phone technology, said

Tiffany, standing up now. She was ready to leave for fifth period and even though she wouldlove to chat with Jin, she didn't want to talk to him when he was like this. The only wayyou can get a message across is for everyone to be in one place at one time. Since everyonehas different fifth periods, I don't think you can manage with so little time left.

A gamer never gives up, said Jin, winking at her.Tiffany blushed and glanced away. I would help but I have no clue myself.I remember my challenge against Fi-Fi, said Jin suddenly, also standing up now.

For whatever reason, all the athletes gathered around the tennis courts to watch ourmatch. That is a good amount of people for my cause, though I'm going to be more

ambitious this time around. You're always so ambitious when you're like this, said Tiffany, frowning at him.I'm not a perfect person, Tiffany.I never said you were.Jin laughed loudly at her words. There are so many people I don't think is worth my

time at all. I want to just ignore them, but I can't. Tiffany didn't say anything. She sighed

again and went down the bleachers. Hey Tiffany. Tiffany stopped and turned around. You said it's impossible with the little time I have left right?Yes, it's impossible, said Tiffany firmly. Thanks to talking to you, said Jin, smirking. I figured it out. Thanks a lot babe.Tiffany blinked and shrugged. No problem I guess. After Tiffany left, Jin laughed to himself and went down the stairs with his hands in

his pockets. He knew exactly what he had to do to support Jezebelle. Even though other Jinwouldn't let him do it, he told himself that he was in control this time. He was going to dosomething that Jin would usually never do. Actually, he should thank how he usually letpeople see him. Thanks to his build-up image, he would never be blamed for this. Never.

When the bell rang for fifth period, Jordan noticed that Jin wasn't in his seat.

Frowning, Jordan wondered where the other boy went. Did he leave for Polytechnic HighSchool with the rest of the girls' tennis team? That couldn't be. From what Jordan heard, the team manager was one of the JV girls this time around thanks to Jin's injuries. Could itbe that Jin skipped class too like Jordan did earlier? Or could it be that Jin was sick in thenurse's office? The principal's office?

Rin Hamada? It was role call and Rin wasn't in class for fifth period. Obviously, she was with

Kristian. There was no doubt about it when there were two empty seats next to each other.Of course, Jordan knew that the teachers didn't know Rin was dating Kristian so theywouldn't suspect it at all, unlike the students. The whole Rin and Kristian relationship waspretty well-known throughout the whole school.

Kristian? Are you here?A lot of people were whispering about how Kristian and Rin must have ditched tohave fun somewhere. Jordan didn't like how they were making fun of Rin for what wasgoing on but he didn't say anything to defend her. What good were his words? He wasn't incharge anymore and nobody cared what he thought. Unlike Rin though, everyone thoughthis was a usual thing for Kristian.

Jin? Jin Song?Suddenly, when she asked for his name, the fire alarm went off. All the students

were happy now. Whenever the fire alarm went off, they were supposed to head to thefootball field area just in case of a fire. They began to grab their belongings and get up,ready to leave the classroom. In the midst of all this, Jordan noticed Jin coming in the

classroom. His head was starting to hurt from the loud beeping of the fire alarm.Mrs. Meyerson went up to Jin. Why are you late, Jin?I was supposed to be absent today for tennis, said Jin, dropping his head. But

Coach sent me back because he wouldn't allow me to be team manager today thanks to myinjuries. He got a replacement for me so I went straight back here.

Frowning, Mrs. Meyerson checked her calendar. You're right. You're supposed to beout today. Okay then, Jin, I won't mark you tardy this time.

Thank you, Mrs. Meyerson!Everyone, said Mrs. Meyerson loudly to the students around here. Get in line now!

We're going to head for the football field in an orderly fashion!Jin, said Jordan, relieved at the sight of him. I thought something might happen

to you. I'm glad you're fine. You worry too much, said Jin, joining the back of the line with Jordan and the

Pimp Juice boys in this class. By the way, do you know where Long Beach Polytechnic Highis? I'm not exactly sure where it's at.

Jordan was slightly dumbfounded by Jin's question. Why do you want to know?I'm picking my girl up after school from that place. At Jin's language, Jordan said, Are you... feeling competitive?Extremely. Why?Nothing, said Jordan under his breath. Was there any warning signs at all whenever

Jin switched like this? I actually know where that school is. Let's see if I can rememberdirections to get there...

While Jordan explained to Jin which freeway he should take to get from Long BeachPolytechnic High School from Wilson High, Jin observed Jordan's face closely. After a while,Jordan realized where Jin's attention was at so he stopped. They were on their way to thefootball field, though everyone in the class was taking their time getting there.

Jin? asked Jordan, nervous. How much do you like Rin-chan? asked Jin suddenly.Jordan knew Jin wasn't usually this straightforward so he picked his words carefully,

I'm not all that sure I like her that much. It's quite a shame then.Jordan blinked. What?Because if you really want her for yourself, said Jin, chuckling to himself and

placing his hands in his pockets. Fi-Fi and I can easily help you win her over. Actually, it's abreeze for myself alone since I am like her best friend and everything. I know everythingabout her so you can know everything about her too.

Thanks for your consideration, said Jordan slowly, still not used to this Jin. But

shouldn't you worry more about her own feelings? Rather than mine?Jin shrugged and dismissed it. Rin-chan doesn't know what she wants anyway. What game are you playing right now? asked Jordan, trying to change the topic. The 'Let's See How Many People Will Listen to Jin' game, said Jin with a playful look

on his face. Jordan had a bad feeling about this. You want to go to Poly after school withme Jordan?

I have tutoring after school, remember?Jin snickered. Right. The more time with her the better. I get you. That's not why-It's okay, said Jin quickly, walking a bit faster. There are more than enough people

to keep me company after school. Jin went up to Abe. Hey. Have you heard? Our tennis

team is up against Poly's. They're planning to crush us so...At the sight of Jin actively spreading word to gather support for the girls' tennis

team, Jordan snuck his cell phone from his pocket and called Rin's number in a hurry. Shewouldn't pick up like before. Frustrated, Jordan sent her a text message instead. He askedher what he had to do to get Jin out of this video game mode. It seemed like she was oneof the few people who knew how to do it. Waiting for her text message, Jordan pretendedto smile and chat along with his classmates while Jin went around with his business.

Glaring at Kristian, Rin pouted and licked whatever was left of her ice cream.Kristian had taken a huge chunk of her ice cream in one bite. When he bought ice cream forher, he claimed he didn't want one because he wasn't so fond of ice cream. Rin should haveknown his interior motive was to share one with her.

We should start sharing everything, said Kristian, licking his lips.Okay, said Rin, smacking Kristian on the head. Share your intelligence and instant

recall with me.Kristian squeezed her waist since she was sitting on top of him. I have this type ofbody and all you want is my brains? What a waste.

Why would I want your body for? asked Rin, taking a bite of her cone. At Kristian'ssmirk, Rin blushed and added quickly, That was hypothetical. You're not supposed toanswer that question.

As for me, said Kristian thoughtfully. I don't want anything from Rin-chan.Good, said Rin, nibbling on her cone.I'll take anything Rin-chan is willing to give and that is enough for me, said Kristian

in the most serious tone he could. But if Rin-chan wants to share anything, I'll give it up.Kristian, said Rin, turning her head around to him. What are you up to?

Tell me the truth, Rin-chan, said Kristian, moving his head up to her shoulder. It'sbeen bugging me all night and morning. What is going on between you and Jordan?Rin growled. Nothing at all! Why are you being suspicious again? Then, please enlighten me about the phone call and the lunch meeting. If it'll stop you from accusing Jordan and I, fine, said Rin, finishing the rest of her

cone and then wrapping her arms in front of her chest. I was mad at him for finding a newgirlfriend so soon after he and Roselle broke up so I told him off at lunchtime.

The phone call?I heard he was going against Jin for a job, said Rin, glancing away and frowning.

So I wished both him and Jin good luck.Kristian lowered his voice. I see...

I knew it, said Rin, getting off his lap. You don't believe me.I believe you, said Kristian, standing up and coming up to her from behind. Hewrapped his arms around her neck. Of course I believe you. You're my Rin-chan. Youwouldn't lie to me about things like this. Kristian dropped his head to her height. I'msorry. I'm sorry for being jealous over trivial things like that. I had a bad day.

It's half my fault too, said Rin under her breath.I shouldn't have hurt you like that, said Kristian, tightening his hug. I should have

trusted you more but I didn't. I'm sorry. Closing his eyes, Kristian continued, It's just sohard sometimes. The more I love you the more insecure I become to everything.

Rin felt sad for him. Kristian...Sometimes, I wish I met you before I met her, said Kristian, laughing to himself.

Then, I wouldn't be so scared of you cheating on me. I would trust you more. I would makelife easier on myself.

But Kristian, said Rin suddenly, stopping him from rambling on. If you didn't meether, you wouldn't be the same as you are today.

That's true, said Kristian admittedly. If I didn't meet her, I would still be thatinnocent, sweet boy who didn't know what the real world is like. I wouldn't know what it'slike to be a grown up, to be mature. I wouldn't be such an expert in this field.

Like me, said Rin under her breath.Amazed at her words, Kristian turned her around to face him and sat down in order

to match her short height. Kristian fondly rubbed her cheek and stared into her sad eyes.Slowly, Kristian pulled Rin on top of his lap and hugged her.

You should stay the way you are, said Kristian, rubbing her back. Sure, you have alot of faults but we'll work them out together. I have my weaknesses too and we'll tacklethose too. Kristian paused and moved his hand up to her neck. But your innocence isvaluable. You should never need to know what it's like to feel heartbreak. You only need to

know what it's like to be loved and maybe to love.To love? asked Rin, surprised.Come on, Rin-chan, said Kristian, amused. We both know you don't love me as

much as I love you.Who says?Kristian shook his head. It's actually better this way. If we both equally love each

other to death, we won't be able to do anything except cuddle, kiss, and sex all day. Rinopened her lips in protest but Kristian went on nevertheless, I'm thankful you don't loveme as much as I love you.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not, said Rin, clearly upset by his assumption.I am, said Kristian, resolved. He placed her back on her feet and got up. I don't

know when we'll be able to hang out and talk to each other like this again so let's make useof this time. There's no way Rin-chan is going to skip school again for me and there's no wayI can put everything else in my life on hold again.

Rin nodded, speechless at all his outrageous assumptions. Yes.Let's stop talking about such serious and sad subjects, said Kristian, grabbing her

hand and walking down the mall together. They shouldn't even be here but this was the onlyplace Rin could think of in the car after they left the house. We should talk about lighterstuff. What do you want to talk about Rin-chan?

Since Kristian asked her so abruptly, Rin stuttered, I-I don't know...It's funny because being with you is enough for me, said Kristian, tightening his

grip on her hand. Rin looked down once and blushed. Being able to spend time with you is

all I need. I don't even know what to say because I feel so comfortable with you.Touched, Rin said suddenly, One day, Kristian. One day?One day, I'll love you more, said Rin, gazing at their hands. It'll happen. You don't have to force yourself, said Kristian, releasing her hand and wrapping his

arm across her shoulders instead. You have done enough. Before, you wouldn't even holdhands. Now, we can hold hands, kiss, and say sweeter things to each other. That's enoughfor me really. You don't have to love me as much as I love you.

Rin shook her head. I know I have it in me. I can't express it because I'm new at thisloving and dating thing. It will take some time but it will come to me naturally. Noworries. Rin placed her head against his side. I won't be forcing myself because I already

know I have genuine feelings for you. It's just a matter of expressing them. Then, said Kristian, elevating his eyes heavenward. You'll go to the Winter Formal

in December with me?Winter Formal? asked Rin, shocked. I haven't even thought about that.Is that a no or a yes? asked Kristian, pretending not to know her answer.I hate dances.I know you do, said Kristian, licking his lips. I don't even know why I asked. I knew

you wouldn't want to go to a dance. Forget it. Kristian shook his head and laughed it off.I never asked so you don't have to say no.

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek Lx i i

    6/24

Kristian...It's cool, said Kristian, reassuring her. I'll go by myself.Wait, said Rin, stopping in her tracks. You're going?I have to, said Kristian, confused. It's a social gathering. Everyone know who I am.

You can't have the Winter Formal without Kristian Shiratori. But then you'll be dancing with other girls...

Kristian laughed at her words. You want me to stand there Rin-chan? How selfish. That's not what I mean, said Rin, caught in her own words. She knew he was jokingabout her being selfish but she was still offended. It's not like I have a problem with youdancing with other girls. It's just a dance. There's nothing more to it.

Exactly. I'm glad you understand.Rin bit her lip. Maybe I should go after all.But I thought you didn't like dances, said Kristian, frowning.I don't but, said Rin, pretending to act apathetic. Since you're going, I don't want

other people to ask you why you're there by yourself and not with your girlfriend. Kristiandropped his arm off her and started laughing in amusement to himself. Rin tried to smile.See? I can be considerate too. That's why I'm sacrificing myself to go with you.

Wow. Thanks Rin-chan. You're a lifesaver.Rin pouted. I'm not saying I'll dance but I'll be there.I guess that means I'll have to buy the tickets for both of us, said Kristian, thinking

about his wallet. He knew he had to save up for their engagement but he could spend alittle at least. I wonder how much that would be.

No, I refuse.Kristian turned to her. What did you say, Rin-chan?I refuse, said Rin in repetition. I'm paying for my own.But-I don't want you to owe you anything, said Rin stubbornly.Amazed, Kristian replied, Didn't we just have a talk about sharing? And besides, I'm

your boyfriend. You don't owe me anything ever. I'm doing it out of my own free will.I said I refuse, said Rin, annoyed. Even though you don't ask for anything inreturn, I'll still feel terrible about it. I want to pay for my own clothes and my own ticket. Iknow that if you keep this up, Rin bit her lip regrettably. I'll become spoiled like all yourprevious girlfriends, which I'll never forgive myself for that.

Kristian nodded his head in defeat. Since you're so adamant about it, it's fine. When they stopped in front of a window with a nice dress on display, Rin thought

about what they talked about. Now, she had to worry about looking nice for a dance shedidn't want to go to and figure out why Kristian kept insisting she didn't like him. Shethought she already figured her feelings out a long time ago.

With these troubles in mind, she checked her cell phone to see what time it was and

how much longer she could be with Kristian. Her phone said she had over twenty missedcalls and one new message in her inbox. She didn't notice any of this all this time becauseshe had her cell phone on silent.

Text message? asked Rin to herself, checking her inbox. She was planning to checkthe missed calls right after. Other than Vance and Kristian, who would- Rin laughed toherself at Jordan's desperate text message. I'm so not helping him. He should learn how todeal with his boyfriend himself.

Whose boyfriend? asked Kristian, tearing his eyes away from the dress.Rin smiled innocently at Kristian and thought she might as well be honest. Jordan's

boyfriend.Oh, nice one, Rin-chan, said Kristian, laughing at what seemed to be a funny joke.

And who may this boyfriend be? Jin Song?Yes?Kristian smirked at her and tackled her into a hug. You're so cute when you actually

have a sense of humor. Rin grumbled something about she had a perfectly fine sense of

humor when Kristian stopped hugging her and turned away with a frown on his face. Rin-chan, I just thought of something.Huh?Maybe it's not the best idea for you to skip school after all...

****************************************************Sitting in their exclusive circle, Penny Cinnamon was busy reading "Tales of the Two

Cities" along with a thick notebook full of Acadec notes on her right thigh and anOxford Dictionary on her left thigh. Her boyfriend George Clemmens was busy crammingfor Acadec only since he couldn't multi-task like Penny could. The other members of theElite were equally busy with their schoolwork with Arav Kandula on Chemistry, LionardLevine on Psychology, Heather Collins on Government, and Michael Ellis on Statistics.

"God, I love that book."Penny shifted her attention from her book to Jordan, who accidentally said that outloud. Jordan realized his mistake three seconds after he said those words. Blushing red atPenny's scrutinizing look, Jordan ran off in a hurry after Jin and the rest of the Pimp Juiceboys. He shouldn't have said that. Even though that was one of his all-time favorite books,he shouldn't have said something that was so out of his character. What would Penny thinkof him now? What would those Elites think of him?

"George," said Penny in an affirmative tone. "How has my hearing been lately?"George kept his eyes on his notes. "Perfect.""Strange," said Penny, pursing her lips and slamming her book shut. "I thought I heard

one of those inferior people say he likes Charles Dickens."

"That can't be possible," said George, licking his finger and then, flipping a page ofhis notes over. "Their brains are not capable of comprehending and absorbing information atthat level. I'm not sure their brains are even capable of reading the Spark Notes to CharlesDickens' works."

Lionard snorted at George's line. "Good one, George.""Are you implying that I may be hallucinating?" asked Penny incredulously at George

with flaring nostrils. Lionard whistled and shut up, leaving George by himself. "I don'thallucinate. Hallucinations are for crazy people." Penny stuck her nose up. "I'm only crazybrilliant, not crazy crazy."

"Apologize, George," said Arav through the corner of his lips."I know what I heard," said Penny, raising her voice now. Lionard took out a sandwich

and took a huge bite of it, ignoring the couple bickering. "And I heard one of them say heloves this book." Penny shook the book on her lap in front of George. "This book that I'm inlove with! It's impossible. Improbable. Inexplicable!"

"Calm down, Penny," said Heather, picking her head form her thick Government book.Like Penny, she had her brown hair in a high ponytail. "He said that to get on your nerves. You know how those Pimp Juice boys are. They're social animals. They don't even have thetime to read even if they can read."

"Which they cannot," added Michael, helping Heather out. "Their reading levels areelementary at best."

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek Lx i i

    8/24

"You're right," said Penny, cooling down her temper. Heather beamed and went backto those books. "I shouldn't listen to those ignorant fools. They're the ones wasting theirlives away on-" Penny shivered. "-social gatherings."

"Getting drunk," said Michael with a nod."Listening to horrible, incomprehensible crap they call music," said George,

    grumbling.

"Gossiping over the phone for hours," said Lionard, shaking his head and chewing hissandwich."Sobbing over heartbreaks and surface-level friendships," said Heather, feigning a sad

face."Ditching school and missing practice," said Arav, groaning.Suddenly, at Arav's words, Penny whirled on him with an angry look on her face, "Rin

Hamada is still dating that loser? That clown? That attention whore?""Unfortunately, yes.""What is the matter with you?" asked Penny, gawking. "What are you and Adrian

doing?""Didn't she ditch school today?" asked Lionard innocently, calculating in his head how

fast he can eat this sandwich."Something like that," said Arav in a tired voice.Penny fumed. "I don't give a damn about that boy but Rin Hamada is mysuccessor.

She's the one I'm leaving all the powers of the Elites to." George and the others nodded inagreement with Penny. "She can't become one ofthem. There's not enough of us in the firstplace."

"Oh gosh," said Heather, gasping. "Penny!""What?" asked Penny, irked."What if..." said Heather, uneasy. "What if there are more of them than us in the

future?" Michael's face twisted in horror. "What if they convert all our people into theirpeople?" Heather was feeling faint. "A school without intelligent people..."

"That's like a world without physics!" cried Michael, hugging Heather to him in fearand comfort to her. "Penny, what do we do?""I already tolerated her dating him in the first place," said Penny firmly, having an

insulted look on her face. "I am not going to tolerate her skipping school because of him.You can't ditch school because of a boy. That's like..." Penny growled, unable to say theword. "That just doesn't happen. I'll never ditch school for George."

"If you ditch school for me," said George, shaking his head. "We wouldn't be dating inthe first place."

"You see?" asked Penny, shaking. "This wouldn't have happened if she dated one ofus."

"Arav, get a move on please," said Lionard, finishing his sandwich.

Arav lowered his eyes. "There's nothing I can do now.""Forget this," said Penny, holding her hand up to Arav. "I have enough of this. We're

talking about social nonsense when we should be studying." Penny reopened her book andplaced her nose in it. "I'll deal with Rin Hamada myself. Even if I have to pressure her todeath, I'll make sure to remind her who she really is. She is one of us, not one of them. Ifthat lowlife of a boyfriend of hers is the reason behind her change, I'll make sure he'll be..."

"Obliterated?" asked Lionard, grinning."Yes," said Penny, nodding. "Let's go with that for now. Study people! If I see a slip in

your GPA, I won't be forgiving. All those Ivy Leagues won't be so forgiving either!"

  • 7/28/2019 Gorgeous Geek Lx i i

    9/24

Afraid of being rejected from Ivy Leagues, every member of the Elites returned theirattention to their books. Since they had to miss class for this fire drill, they might as wellmake sure of their extra time. It wasn't the time and place to talk about Rin Hamada andher boyfriend. They had to leave that for later.

When they heard about their school going to Polytechnic High School after school tosupport the tennis team, Penny was skeptical about the news. Who planned this? Who

spread the word? Most importantly, what was the point? Even though Penny told the rest ofher group that she had Acadec after school and that she wasn't going, the others were moreinterested in going.

"Think of it this way, Penny," said Lionard with a thoughtful look on his face. "We canmake use of this opportunity-"

"This excuse, you mean," said Arav in interruption.Lionard shook his head with an annoyed look. "Thanks a lot Arav. Anyways," Lionard

grinned again, "We know how strong Poly's education program is. They sent more studentsto UCs than any other high school in the state. Why not investigate this matter further?"

"Face it Lionard," said Arav, sighing. "You want to see their Marching Band.""Their music department destroyed ours last year," said Heather, frowning at Lionard.

"It must be hard for our trombone player here.""We're much better than them," said Lionard insistently, a soft blush across his face."They have more funds... that's all."

"It's always more funds with you," said Heather in a teasing voice.Lionard scowled. "I don't care. I want to see their Marching Band for myself.""I insist I accompany you," said Michael with a friendly smile. "Besides, I can drive.

You can't.""All right then," said Lionard, returning the smile. "Let's go together Michael.""I'm coming too," said Heather quickly, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. "You

two will screw up big time without my supervision.""Please go with them," said Penny with a nod.

Heather beamed. "Leave it to me, Penny!""She has no..." said Lionard, dropping his jaw at his leader in disbelief.Michael groaned. "No trust in us at all."Intelligent boys are still boys, said Heather in reminder, smirking at them and

getting up to leave. How dare you question my intelligence, said Michael after her, angry.Great, said Lionard, annoyed. Michael was watching Heather from behind with the

same expression on his face. She's only coming because you're coming. Thanks a lotMichael. Now, I have to endure an afternoon of you two bantering.

We don't banter, said Michael, insulted. We merely state our differences in alouder fashion than most people. An honest, verbal disagreement.

Yawning, Lionard stretched his arms back and behind his neck, knowing Michael andHeather too well. Send everyone an invitation to your wedding already.

I'm cramming, stated Michael, scowling and wishing to change the subject. Youshut up.

Lionard frowned. No, you shut up.Why don't both of you shut up? asked Penny dangerously, narrowing her eyes at

them. They both quieted down. Penny threw her ponytail back and returned her attentionto her studies and reading when she remembered what she heard earlier. His words aregoing to haunt me all day. Unbelievable.

XuanLan offered her sweater sweetly to Lexi, though Jezebelle could see that Xuan Lan didn'tlike this treatment either. The only one who didn't seem to care much was Yvette since she

was too busy watching some of the girls play on the tennis courts, and Sophronia who didn'tget angry or upset over anything really. Soon enough, Jezebelle joined Yvette's side."We'll win today," said Yvette in an assertive voice.Jezebelle giggled in amusement. "Of course we will.""I want to hear facts though," said Yvette, moving up closer to Jezebelle. "Without a

plan and out of pure skills alone, who will be able to win their matches today against Poly?"At the question, Jezebelle scanned the area for familiar faces. "Do you really want to

know?""Yes," said Yvette, breathing in deeply. "I'm mentally prepared for the worst.""I'll win," said Jezebelle confidently before she darted her eyes over the other girls.

"You and Venus will win. Sophronia may win. May and Mai may win. The others have a slim

chance of winning.""Even Tasha and Roselle?" asked Yvette, frowning."Roselle's been in a slump lately thanks to her breakup with Jordan," said Jezebelle in

a matter-of-fact tone. "Though if we find a way to motivate her, she should do better thanexpected. As for poodle girl," Jezebelle almost shivered when she noticed Tasha waving ather from afar. "She might be a strong Singles Three, but as a Singles Two, she has no chanceagainst Poly's Singles Two."

"How do you know who's Singles Two for Poly?"Jezebelle smirked. "Who do you think made the roster last year? Unless they fight

over who plays what again this year, they'll stick to the same arrangements.""And if they really did fight it out?" asked Yvette carefully.

"Then, we'll win for sure," said Jezebelle, winking. "But they won't do something sostupid. They've been waiting for this day since they found out I'm still alive so they won't tryanything irrational. They'll stick with what they're best at and beat us then and there. That's Poly's motto."

"You really have no feelings for your former team?" asked Yvette skeptically.Jezebelle laughed at the thought. "I don't even have feelings for the people I hang

out with every day. Why should I care about a bunch of whores I left behind?""Never mind that," said Yvette, returning the original topic. "If what you say is true,

we'll lose five out of the seven matches today if Sophronia and May and Mai can't live up toyour expectations. Since you said we'll win, you have a plan in mind I assume?"

"I always do," said Jezebelle, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. "We'll be

rallying on the courts soon.""The girls are currently stretching, yes.""Tell them to have fun on the courts today," said Jezebelle, receiving a look of dismay

from Yvette. "I don't mean when the match actually starts but during their rally today, havethem play however they like. Most importantly, don't have them rally competitively likehow you usually make them do."

"Hiding our strengths?" asked Yvette, liking this plan."One of the reasons," said Jezebelle, pouting. "There's actually more to it than that."Yvette placed her left hand on her hip. "Do share."

"There are three courts in all," said Jezebelle, indicating at the clean green courts infront of them. "Poly actually doesn't pick who plays on which courts ahead of time."

Yvette nodded in understanding. Before every home game, Yvette personally pickedout which Singles or Doubles would play on which tennis court depending on how well theyplay with or with sunlight and a lot of other important factors. This was a regular processsince there were seven matches in all on only three courts. Apparently, Poly didn't go by her

system. They had their own system and luckily for their team, Jezebelle knew them well."They wait and watch our team rally first," said Jezebelle, smirking. "Then, theydecide which three should play."

"How do they decide this?" asked Yvette curiously.Jezebelle shook her head. "I used to do it because I was team captain last year, but

with a new captain...""I'll rephrase," said Yvette calmly, turning her body to face Jezebelle. "Do they want

to win early or late?""That's the main point of picking which match goes first isn't it?" asked Jezebelle,

amused. She checked her time on her cell phone. "The first three matches start at thebeginning of sixth period and usually ends when school ends or slightly later unless it's an

overkill match.""That is the case most of the time," said Yvette in agreement."Poly knows this too and they make use of it for every home game," said Jezebelle,

remembering last year too well. "To answer your question, they want to win early. They'llpick the three matches that they're almost certain they'll win based on their opponent'srally time. Take out the weakest in comparison to their own members."

"I see now," said Yvette, catching on. "If hypothetically they win the first threematches, they have support of the student population for the other four so-called 'weaker'matches once the other students are out of school." Yvette shook her head. "If there's onething Poly is known for, it is for their support for all their sports teams, academic teams, and music program."

"Most people don't know this but there is such a thing as 'home court advantage' fortennis too," said Jezebelle, watching one of the Poly girls aced her teammate in the courtin front of her. "Think of it this way. Both opposing teams are tied, but there are a lot morestudents cheering for the home team. The visiting team might pretend that it doesn'tdiscourage them, but it does."

"Even more so in tennis because we're not supposed to cheer on the mishaps of theother team, but on the winning shots of our own teammates," said Yvette, knowing tenniswell. "In other words, people like Roselle who thrive off motivation won't be able tocompete effectively when no one claps or cheers for her aces and other nice shots. Even ifwe do try to cheer her on, we'll be drown out by the home court's student population."

"That's why you're Captain and not the others," said Jezebelle, nodding at Yvette.

"Though," said Yvette, sighing. "The more I talk to you the more discouraged I am.Poly aims to win its first three matches swiftly and decisively and then uses the advantageof its student population's support for its other four matches. Most likely, one of the fourteams will win and we're done for."

"That's how it looks like doesn't it?"Yvette laughed under her breath at Jezebelle's tone. "But you have a plan.""Our plan is simple," said Jezebelle, playing with her curly strands of hair. "We'll aim

to win late.""Win late? Isn't that exactly what they want?"

Nodding, Jezebelle muttered, "We'll make use of their plan against them by throwingaway the first three matches. Two only if we're lucky."

"This isn't a game, Jezebelle," said Yvette in reminder. "You can't just treat ourteammates as pawns."

"Yes, I can," said Jezebelle, amazed that Yvette would even bother going against her."Tasha and Doubles Three have literally no chance of winning. Why bother with them? We'll

give up those two to Poly, making them feel confident about winning.""Let's say I agree to this," said Yvette, frowning. "Who's the third person or teamyou're aiming to put on the court?"

"Since Sophronia or Doubles Two have some chance of winning," said Jezebelle, shrugging. "We'll have them go."

"Why those two matches where we have a good chance of winning instead ofthrowing away Roselle?"

"Because I'm putting all my chances on Roselle."Yvette lifted a brow. "You were the one who said she didn't have a chance of

winning.""No," said Jezebelle in correction. "Roselle has little chance of winning... without

motivation." Before Yvette could fight against this notion, Jezebelle shushed her andcontinued, "Trust me on this one. I know what I'm doing. If everything goes according to myplan, we'll be able to sneak away with five wins instead of the bare minimum four. That'llbe nice wouldn't it? Poly's our rival school after all."

"I win. You win. And for the sake of argument, Roselle also wins.""Correct, Captain."Are you leaving the last match to chance? Luck? Faith in your teammates?"Jezebelle shook her head. "I'll personally help the maybe teams to win their matches.

Whether it's Sophronia or May and Mai, I have something in mind. Either way, we'll be ableto win but depending on whether my plan works or not, we might leave with four or fivewins. There's a chance we'll only get three wins but Roselle will pull through for me."

"I must admit," said Yvette, touching her sweat band. "Your confidence really givesme hope that we'll win against Poly this time. I also realize something.""Oh?""I know why we keep losing to Poly last year," said Yvette, shaking her head at the

memory. "It's because of you. You masterfully controlled the team and beat us." Jezebellegiggled evilly to herself though she didn't say yes or no to Yvette's words. "I'm glad you're onour side this time. We'll win no matter what."

If the team listens to me, said Jezebelle, tapping her fingers against her arm. We'll have a guaranteed win. What do you say, Kwan?

Yvette sighed. I don't want to throw matches away.No one does, but it's for the team as a whole. It's necessary to catch Poly off guard.

If not, they'll know something's up and be cautious for the rest of the matches. With her eyes on Xuan Lan and Lexi, Yvette muttered, They worked so hard though.

I don't want to tell them that they'll be used like this. You don't have to tell them, said Jezebelle, shrugging. I don't tell Spring there

half of the stuff I do sometimes. She takes it like an adult ironically.Ironically?I thought you usually distance yourself from your teammates, said Jezebelle,

tossing Yvette a wary look. The other girl didn't say anything in response. You can't beemotionally involved when you make plans like this.

Is that how your team last year keep winning? asked Yvette suddenly. Becauseyou're not emotionally attached to them...

You can say that, said Jezebelle, frowning. But I'm not emotionally attached toanything or anyone really. That's how I live most of my life and that's how I'm going to livemost of my life. Jezebelle shrugged. Tennis is the same, therefore if I fail this time, I willnever play Singles One again. I'll give the position back to Tasha.

You're that confident this will work?Absolutely, said Jezebelle, smiling at Yvette now. Because our last four teams aregoing to take away their 'home court advantage'.

Before Yvette could ask what Jezebelle meant by that, Jezebelle already left andwent up to Xuan Lan and Lexi. Jezebelle crouched down in front of them and waited forXuan Lan to finish stretching her legs and Lexi to finish adding sunscreen to her arms.

Yes Jesse? asked Xuan Lan, hugging her tennis racket to her chest.During your rally today, said Jezebelle in a lowered tone. Lexi will keep hitting

forehands to you.I've been working on my forehand Jesse!Good, good, said Jezebelle, brushing it off quickly. Except this time, I don't want

you to hit them in the court. Xuan Lan tilted her head, curious. I want you to send thoseballs flying as far as possible. The freshman girl was enthusiastic. That's easy! That's Xuan Lan's specialty! Why? asked Lexi, suspicious at Jezebelle's intention.Easy, said Jezebelle smoothly to the other girl. Let's annoy the hell out of these

losers. Would you like it if your opponent's team starts sending yourtennis balls flying overthe fence every few minutes?

I'll join in the fun then, said Lexi, noticing Xuan Lan whirling and humming theBeethoven 5th Symphony song to herself. I hate these girls. They're out to get us for somereason. Their school must really hate our school.

Hate is such an understatement in this case, said Jezebelle, flinging her hair back.

Anyways, I'm counting on both of you to annoy the crap out of them. Both girls nodded inagreement before Jezebelle went over to Tasha, who was checking her cell phone with awide smile on her face. Tasha, as for you-

Have you seen the newest picture of Tinkerbell, Jezebelle? asked Tasha, holding upher cell phone to Jezebelle's face until she gasped to herself. I never realize it before butTinkerbell and Jezebelle rhymes!

Jezebelle told herself mentally to act normal around Tasha. That's good. Keep thatup. Actually, keep thinking of Tinkerbell while rallying today. Hurriedly, Jezebelle leftTasha's side despite Tasha calling after her. If there is one person I can't stand, it's her.

Right when Jezebelle left the rest of her team, a couple of Poly's tennis girlssurrounded Jezebelle. Jezebelle didn't care much for them so she didn't say anything and

tried to go on her way. However, they blocked her way to the bathroom with dirty looks ontheir faces. Obviously, they weren't happy to see her again.

Well, well, if it isn't Jez.What happen to you? asked one of the girls in a mocking voice. I hear you're not

team captain anymore.Jezebelle smirked. If you're good, you don't have to be captain to control others.Irritated, the girls moved in on Jezebelle. What happen to your hair, Jez?It used to be that icky blonde color. Why is it brown now? What's your real hair color? Red? Black? Do you even have a real hair color?

Shrugging, Jezebelle twirled a strand of her hair around her finger. It's my hair now,is it? Don't you girls have better things to do? Actually, Jezebelle pouted. Don't you girlshave better insults for me? I came here, mentally prepared to refute most of them.

We're not falling for that, Jez, said one of the girls, rolling her eyes. I don't evenknow why we should even keep your reputation here at Poly a secret. We should just marchover there and tell your team what a controlling, dangerous freak you are.

Go ahead, said Jezebelle, urging them on. I insist on it.We're not bluffing.I don't mind, said Jezebelle innocently, leaving the circle she found herself in. The

other girls were too afraid to touch her. It'll just make myself look invincible. I mean, afreshman girl taking over the entire girls' tennis team within a month? Jezebelle giggled toherself and shrugged innocently. Frankly, you guys look like the idiots who can't doanything about it. I have nothing to lose here.

Forget this, said one of the Poly girls. We'll beat you on the courts instead.Good luck with that, said Jezebelle, pretending to wave happily after them. After

they left her alone, Jezebelle went straight to the restroom to tie her hair up. Looking atthe mirror in front of her, Jezebelle frowned. Maybe I look better with blonde hair?

Jezebelle checked the time on her cell phone. In little more than an hour, we'll be takinghome-field advantage away from Poly. Jezebelle paused and added, At least, Jin will.Meanwhile, outside, all of the girls on her tennis team were on the courts to rally

before the matches. The Poly girls muttered to each other why Jezebelle wasn't rallyingwithout the rest of her team. On one of the courts, Xuan Lan whistled her usual song as shesent the first tennis ball flying over the fence and into the football field.

*********************************************Stopping in front of Rin's house, Kristian turned off the engine and moved his

attention over to his girlfriend next to him. Rin was staring blankly in front of her as if lostin thought. At last, Rin released a heavy sigh and turned to him with a weak smile.

You really have to go? asked Rin, releasing her seat belt.

Kristian nodded. I have errands to run, remember? At the end of the day, I have to ask. What is it?We're still together, right? At her innocent question, Kristian chuckled and shook his head, We never broke up.

You overreacted like always, Rin-chan.I see, said Rin, blushing. I'll be napping then. You do that, said Kristian, patting her on the shoulder. Before Rin left the car, she reached over to Kristian in which he responded with a

quick kiss. Then, Rin lingered her eyes on his face for a few seconds before she got off thecar. She stood there and watched him leave before she sighed and sat down in front of her

house on the steps. It was a few minutes before the end of school. This was the first timeRin didn't have to attend band practice in a long time. She didn't count her escapes the pastcouple of weeks. Knowing Adrian, he was going to scold her tomorrow.

I should nap, said Rin decisively, taking out her house keys.Rin unlocked the door quickly and glanced over in the direction of the school one last

time. Much to her surprise, everyone was leaving together in an almost orderly fashionbehind someone. Stunned, Rin took a few steps toward the school to have a better view.Much to her surprise, Jin led the crowd out into the streets before they scattered to theirown cars. Many of them headed for the subway together. Where were they all going?

In a matter of minutes, Rin watched in awe as all the students drove their cars in thedirection of the freeway. The main streets around her school was packed thanks to thisoutbreak. Since Rin was too curious about what was going on, she went down the street in ahurry until she stopped at the corner where a couple of students were ordering food beforeleaving. Rin spotted someone she knew and went straight up to him.

Where is everyone going? asked Faith, frowning at her question.

Rin pointed after the cars. What's going on?Long Beach Polytechnic High, said Faith, sipping soda from his cup. You know howa couple of days ago they came to our school to take away Jezebelle Tilly for whateverreason? Rin nodded firmly. Since she's there on their campus on an away tennis game, she's most likely in danger of getting attacked again. That's why most of the school whodon't have practice or extracurricular activities after school are off to cheer for the tennisteam and make sure nothing happens to her.

Why do they care? asked Rin in disbelief. It's the thrill more than anything, said Faith, offering his soda to her. Rin shook her

head quickly. Last time, the football and basketball team get to fight them and gloatabout Wilson High school pride. This time, everyone else wants in on it.

And since Poly is our rival school, everyone's all riled up.Exactly, said Faith, leaning against the railings in front of the liquor store. I havenothing against them personally but I dislike how they're so prideful of their music andsports departments. Being in both, I feel like they're looking down on us since we're not asstrong as them in both areas.

Are you going then, Faith? asked Rin curiously.Faith shrugged and combed his hand through his hair. A lot of our practices have

been canceled, including band practice because of this support movement Jin Song hasgoing on. Rin's eyes widened at the news. Sometimes, I can't tell whether I support JinSong or not. He seems like a nice enough guy and he helped out Cerina from what I heardfrom the swimming team. I owe him a lot for that. Faith paused and frowned, trying to

remember what his original thought was. At last, Faith remembered and continued, Buteveryone over-glorify the boy. They listen to him way too much and they can't think forthemselves. Plus, he's so extreme.

Extreme? asked Rin, skeptical. He believes in total equality, said Faith, shaking his head. Women and men should

be treated the same. Whites and blacks. Popular or unpopular. Rich or poor. Jock or nerd.Senior or freshman. Faith sipped his soda and gulped down the contents with a troubledlook on his face. Besides his idealistic views, he does literally anything for his girlfriend.Extreme things like leading a war or a movement. It's sweet but there's something really offabout their relationship in general.

Have you ever seen them together? asked Rin, knowing what Faith was saying

    though.No, I haven't, said Faith, surprised. That's the thing. Why haven't I seen them

together? I hear so much about them but I haven't witness any of their relationship myself.Jin and Jezebelle have a one-sided relationship, said Rin in a quiet tone. He feels

obligated to do anything for her because he's her boyfriend. As for Jezebelle, she takesadvantage of that and uses it to her advantage. Rin stopped and glanced back at herhouse. I shouldn't have told you that.

I won't do or say anything, said Faith in reassurance. I don't like to get involved inother people's business.

That's good.Hugging Rin, Faith muttered, I better get going now. You stay out of trouble.Okay, said Rin, beaming at Faith and releasing him. Thanks.Faith! cried Cerina, running over and attaching herself to his arm. There you are!

I've been looking for you! Someone told me you went to the liquor store and- Cerinastopped and spotted Rin. Oh, hello there Rin Hamada.

Hello, said Rin, trying to sound enthusiastic. She didn't know Cerina that well.Faith says you're like a little sister to him, said Cerina, scanning Rin quickly withher eyes. You're older than me but you're so cute.

Rin blushed. Huh?Since you weren't in school today, said Cerina with a thoughtful look on her face.

You can't be the culprit behind that awful rumor about me today. What awful rumor? asked Rin, clueless. If it's not you, said Cerina, frowning and ignoring Rin's question. I wonder who it

is. I thought it was the Polo team at first but since they cleared my name, they probablydidn't spread it in the first place.

Let's go, said Faith, tugging Cerina's arm. Rin Hamada needs her rest. Later.

Rin blinked. Later...After Faith forcefully dragged Cerina away, they only stopped at the cross light, waiting for it to turn green. With a grumpy look on his face, Faith stared ahead of him, avoiding Cerina's gaze altogether. At last, Cerina took a deep breath and decided it wastime she was honest with him.

Faith.Yes?Cerina gulped. I...It's not like you to be shy, said Faith, still not looking at her. What's the problem? Thanks to that rumor, I have come to terms with my feelings for you, said Cerina in

a soft voice, staring straight ahead at the red light. I don't think my feelings for any man

will ever surpass my love for acting. Cerina clasped her hands together. But my feelingsfor you are real because I associate my love for acting with you. You may be cool, mature,level-headed, strong, and objective, but I love you for your acting abilities and your actingabilities alone. It's the actor I love, not the person in front of me.

I see.Are you mad? asked Cerina, peeking up at him now. With a soft smile on his face, Faith shook his head. No, I'm glad that you have finally

come to terms with your feelings, Cerina. It's been driving you crazy hasn't it?No kidding.Cerina laughed to herself. I've been so stupid. I keep chasing you even though it's

impossible. It's only after that sex rumor that I understand that I never once thought abouthaving sex with you. Surprised by her words, Faith paid attention to her. Your sex doesn'tmatter to me. Your gender doesn't matter to me either. Only your acting skills matter. With a bright smile, Cerina gazed at him. That's why I can confidently say that I'll be ableto love you in an asexual way. You can keep your vow. I can keep you to myself. We're bothhappier this way.

Cerina, said Faith, sighing. I have to think about it.Oh please do. Take your time.I've always thought I'm part of your game, said Faith in a pained voice. And that

the minute you won, you'll leave the Drama Club.Cerina dropped her jaw. Never! But after hearing you say all these things, I know for sure that even after I graduate

this year, I can leave the club in your hands and everything will be fine, said Faith, relieved. I'm not part of your game and you don't love me for me but for my abilities.Usually, a person in my situation will feel insulted right about now. Instead, I feel at ease.

Faith closed his eyes and breathed in deeply. I can never be in a relationship with a personI love or a person who loves me. This, on the other hand, works fine. Then, is that a yes? asked Cerina, excited.Faith opened his eyes and chuckled. You're jumping to conclusions again, Cerina.Oh no.There has been too many misunderstandings on both ends, said Faith carefully. I

shouldn't have treated you like a child. Most importantly, I shouldn't have treated you likejust some actress I need to keep the Drama Club alive. For both of these reasons, Faithbowed his head slightly. I'm sorry.

No, don't be sorry! gasped Cerina, shaking her hands up at him.Let's start over, said Faith firmly with a cool smile. Sometimes, I forget that not

only are you my leader and my star actress, you are also my best friend. Cerina blushed, remembering this as well. After checking up on you constantly and following youeverywhere, I know you the best, Cerina.

Same to you, said Cerina under her breath. After trying to win you over, I learnmuch about you. You really are my best friend if nothing else.

Let's start with that and see how that goes then.Cerina smiled in content. Yes, let's do that.Good.I'll still try to win you over though, said Cerina in warning, tiptoeing up at him.

Just not for the same reasons!Faith laughed at her. Try your best then.

And one more thing Faith.Yes?Giggling playfully, Cerina indicated at the light. The cross light has changed to

green two or three times by now. Did you even notice?Flustered slightly, Faith crossed the street with her behind him. Let's go.I purposely didn't say anything since you didn't say anything.Evil, said Faith, giving her one long look. So very evil.Laughing, Cerina attached herself to Faith by the arm but with no ill intentions in

mind. Instead, she thought they looked like two best friends who were close enough to walkdown the street arm in arm together. This was enough for now.

Even though Xuan Lan didn't want to believe it, she watched as the last tennis ballshe played against the other team rolled on the ground. It rolled all the way to her tennisshoes. Bending over to pick it up the tennis ball, Xuan Lan frowned to herself. She reallydid try her best. Maybe she wasn't cut out for tennis... even though it had been her dreamfor a long time. Maybe she never had a chance in the first place.

Hesitant, Xuan Lan managed to drag her body over to the middle of the court toshake hands with the winning team. She could hear the Poly girls snickering at her and Lexifrom outside the fence about how their entire tennis team except for Jezebelle wasuseless. Xuan Lan didn't feel anything at first since she was used to it by now. But when she

left the courts and met Jezebelle's eyes, Xuan Lan burst into tears. She let down Jezebelle. Why couldn't she be as useful to Jezebelle as Jin, Wendy, Kirk, and Juliet?

After Xuan Lan tackled Jezebelle into a hug, Jezebelle turned wary eyes at the girlbefore she smoothed out the top of Xuan Lan's head, What a pitiful girl you are, Spring.

Yeu... said Xuan Lan, burying her head deeper into Jezebelle's shoulder. You're a newbie, said Jezebelle, holding Xuan Lan away from her at arm's length.

You can't expect to win all the time. You should be happy you're losing sooner rather thanlater. This way, you'll be able to learn and improve on your skills.Xuan Lan blinked the tears away. Hai...You have three more years of tennis ahead of you so don't look so discouraged.Hai, said Xuan Lan again before she tilted her head to the side. Leader, do you

used to lose a lot too? Jezebelle lifted a brow. To get to where you are?Jezebelle managed to pull off the best smile she could manage. Yes. Plenty. You shouldn't make up such lies just because you can, Leader. At those words, Xuan Lan gasped and turned around, only to meet Wendy's smirking

face. Squealing, Xuan Lan tackled Wendy into a hug and demanded why she was at LongBeach Polytechnic High School. After Wendy comforted Xuan Lan quickly, Wendy turned her

eyes on Jezebelle with interest.Your boyfriend spread the word about your match today, said Wendy in a matter-of-fact tone. Jezebelle didn't look surprise at all. Let me guess. You ordered him to do it.

Who else? asked Jezebelle in amusement. You're skilled at tennis, said Wendy, frowning. Why do you need the support of our

students for? Just to cause another showdown with Poly after what happened last Monday?Although that would make for a fabulous turnout, said Jezebelle, smirking

innocently and watching a couple of more Wilson High students step foot on Poly's campus. After all, it had been ten minutes after school for both schools. No, that's now why.

Now's the time when you're supposed to tell me why.Jezebelle was amused at Wendy's impatient tone. Really, Wendy darling, do you

have to know everything? Must you try to get into my head?I have no interest in trying to get into something so dirty, said Wendy, narrowingher eyes at Jezebelle. Though, she laughed loudly right after. But I do have to knoweverything. I have the right after what I've done on behalf of this group.

Fine, said Jezebelle, indicating at the flood of Wilson High students. It's simplereally. We're stealing Poly's home-field advantage by having more of our students here ontheir grounds. How do you think they'll take having more visiting team's fans than the homecrowd? Pretty pissed off right?

You're the devil, said Wendy, deadpanned.I know sweetie, said Jezebelle in a teasing voice. Sports might rely mostly on

skills and talent and endurance but, Jezebelle puckered up her lips and watched Tasha

leave the courts with lowered eyes. There are a lot of luck and psychology involved. Thewatchers are the extra player after all and I plan to make use of that.

Wendy wrapped her arms in front of her chest and shook her head. You do knowthat Poly can easily bring in more students here to outnumber us right?

Wrong, said Jezebelle, smirking again. That group of Poly students you fought acouple of days ago are in the minority. Most of the Poly students except for the freshmanwouldn't dare come to this part of the school once they know I'm here.

They fear you that much?Jezebelle shrugged innocently. That's what I'm told.

Remind me never to get on your bad side. But you already have before.Wendy laughed loudly at Jezebelle's words. Oh man. You better win your match or

else, you'll look like a fool.Where's honey bear? asked Jezebelle, glancing sideways once. A lot of Wilson High

students were here from musicians to jocks. I don't see him.

That one Poly boy from last time asked for a private conversation with Jin Song, said Wendy, frowning. Since it is Poly, none of us want him to go alone with that boy butJin insists that he has to take this one alone. I hope he's all right.

They won't do anything suspicious at their own grounds, said Jezebelle confidently, rolling her eyes. How ironic that the safest place to be with Poly students are at theirschool campus. He'll be fine.

You're not going to look for him even though he has done so much for you?Jezebelle gaped at Wendy's words. Not only are you my conscience, you're getting

yourself involved with him too? Do you not have a life or something?Wendy sighed and turned around. I'll be cheering for you with daggers in my eyes. That's the best kind, Wendy dear.

Over in the courts nearby, Roselle was called to start her match. Right now,Sophronia was tied with her opponent. Tasha and Doubles Three already lost. Roselle knewthey couldn't afford to lose another match and that she had to play her best today. However, even with this in mind, Roselle didn't feel motivated at all. She thought aboutJordan and Sandara earlier today and already, her heart sank.

Roselle, said Patrick, waving at Roselle from nearby.Roselle's eyes lit up. Patrick? What are you doing here?I'm here too, said David, appearing behind Patrick with the rest of the boys from

the Varsity tennis team. Every one of them were here, even the silent Boris. Did you playyet Roselle?

Roselle shook her head, My match is up next.

What's the score? asked Javen, wearing his large headphones like always.Tasha and Doubles Three lost already, said Roselle, feeling down again. SinglesFour Sophronia is playing right now. I believe it's Doubles One and my turn to play next.

She probably doesn't need it but, said David, leaving the group. I'll tell Yvette andVenus good luck.

Look at that lover boy go, said Rick, amused. He petted Roselle on the head. You'll do fine, baby girl. You have some killer aces.

Make use of them more often, said Patrick, flashing a grin.Good luck Roselle, said Geoff, hugging Roselle dramatically. Roselle couldn't

breathe but Geoff didn't notice. Roselle, you'll be fine! I'll cheer for you and Sophie! You're part of this team, said Rick, placing a hand on Kirk's shoulder. Boris

muttered something to Roselle, thinking Rick was going to pick on him and then left to seeSophronia's match. Say something to motivate Roselle before her match.

At last, Geoff released Roselle, who had to catch her breath. Kirk released a heavysigh, wondering why he was even here with the other members of the boys' team. He wasonly here really to see Jezebelle and then find a couple of Poly girls to mess with. Since hewas put on the spot, he had no choice. He went over to Roselle and picked her head upwith his strong right hand. Roselle's face reddened. Kirk swiftly gave her a peck on thecheek before he took a step back just in time to dodge her kick.

Done, said Kirk, turning around and giving a thumbs up to a speechless Roselle.

    20/24

Why do we have a jock on the tennis team again? cried Roselle, flustered.Kirk means well, said Patrick in reassurance. It's his way of saying he likes you.Likes me? asked Roselle, paling.Patrick realized his mistake. Not that way!Where's Jordan and Club President? asked Roselle, noticing two obvious members

of the tennis team missing. And Jin Song?

Jin's talking to the King of Poly High, said Javen, shaking his head. None of us canstop him from going off with that bastard...Oh... said Roselle quietly.Grim's here, said Rick, laughing. He's looking for parking right now.Roselle brightened up slightly. That's good.As for Jordan, we don't know where he is, said Patrick, shrugging. He's a busy guy.

He wouldn't want to waste his time with something so silly. My game's silly huh? asked Roselle, upset.Patrick smacked his forehead. I did it again. I said something wrong. It's okay, Patrick, said Roselle reassuringly. I need to get on the courts before they

call my match a forfeit. If you see Club President, tell him I say hi.

Right when Roselle entered the tennis courts after the other boys' encouragementand reassurance, she met Grim's eyes. He was running alongside the fence, panting. Rosellestopped in her tracks and waited for him to catch up to her. Although they were on oppositesides of the fence, she felt so happy just to see him here to cheer her on in this toughmatch, unlike someone else.

Roselle, said Grim firmly, glancing at her opponent once. Win.I will, Club President! said Roselle enthusiastic. No, Roselle, said Grim, smirking at her. I'm not 'Club President' to you anymore.Roselle tilted her head. What should I call you then?Grim chuckled to himself at the innocent look on her face. If you win this match,

Grim widened his smirk. I'll tell you my real name. The name my mother gave me.

You mean it's not 'Grim'? asked Roselle in her usual honest manner. No, it's not Roselle. My brain exploded.I'm here for you, said Grim reassuringly. That's why you have to win against Poly.Roselle glanced down at her racket once before she nodded. Right. If I win, I get to

know your real name. I'll win for sure! With Roselle on her court, Grim watched her with a careful look on his face. He

deserved her more. She might have feelings for Jordan but Jordan didn't come. He wasn'there when she needed him to support her. Their relationship was definitely over, like hepredicted from the very beginning. Like he said before, relationships were tricky in general. Most of it were luck and for once, luck was on his side.

Grim wasn't going to let this opportunity go.While Kirk sweet-talk his way with Jezebelle's opponent for Singles One match,

Jezebelle kept her eyes on the tennis courts. Everything was going as she expected. No, shewas wrong. Everything was going betterthan she expected. The tennis boys were here tosupport the tennis girls. Even the jocks and nerds were in the same place, even whenJezebelle expected them not to be here thanks to practice and extracurricular activities. There were more Wilson High students than Jezebelle imagined in her head in general.

Since he did such a great job, said Jezebelle, leaving the area with her tennisracket against her shoulder. I'll congratulate him in person.

****************************************************I love you! When Rin came home from her talk with Faith and then to buy her drink at the usual

place, she did not expect such an exclamation and hug from someone other than hermother or Kristian. Right now, she was dumbfounded as Jordan hugged her with a broadgrin on his face. At last, she recovered.

What are you doing in my house?Your mother let me in.Rin groaned to herself and pushed him aside. What did you just say?I love you, Ri-chan, said Jordan in bliss. Rin blinked, reddened, and told herself

that he was being stupid. I love you so much that I wouldn't mind dating you if you're notalready taken.

It's already enough Kristian nearly dumped me because of you, said Rin, backingaway from him and hitting against the front door. They were inside the house thankfully.Let's not give him any reason to actually dump me.

Look! Look at this Ri-chan!Blinking, Rin found a piece of paper pushed against her face. Rin was so stunned

because she couldn't see anything at all because the paper was too close to her face. A bitannoyed, Rin grabbed the paper from Jordan and looked through it. Jordan got an 83% onhis Calculus test. How sad. It was only a B. Wait a second. Jordan got a B on a test?

You got a B? cried Rin, dropping her jaw.I got a B, said Jordan, bobbing his head. You got a B, said Rin in repetition.Yes. I got a B on a math test!Oh my goodness, said Rin, double-checking the answers quickly. The ones that

were marked right were right. You really got a B, Jordan!I did, said Jordan, sighing in pleasure, And I didn't cheat either!I don't know what to say, said Rin, feeling like she was about to cry. I really don't

know what to say. This is great. I'm really happy for you.Jordan retrieved his paper and put it back inside his backpack. I know! I don't knowwhat to say or do either! Should I hang the paper up on my wall?

Your wall? asked Rin, laughing. You don't have your own wall anymore! Can I hang it on your wall? asked Jordan, clasping her hands.Yes! cried Rin, tightening the grip on his hands and hopping up and down. Yes!

Hang it on my wall!Oh, and more good news, said Jordan, pulling out something out of his backpack.

Then, he handed it to her with a broad smile on his face. Since Mrs. Meyerson knew thatJin was your best friend, she gave him your test paper since she wanted you to receive it assoon as possible. Jin knew I had tutoring with you today so he asked me to give it to you.

Stunned by the score she saw on her paper, Rin examined the paper carefully for asecond before she looked through her essay quickly. Jordan watched as her facialexpression changed from disbelief to confusion to excitement. At last, she shrieked inhappiness and held the paper up to his face.

I got a 95% on my paper! I never get a 95% on my paper!I know, said Jordan, beaming. You did well.My first 95% on an English essay, said Rin in tears now. I thought it'll never

happen, no matter how hard I try. English is not as objective as math so it's so hard.I know, but look at what happened.

Rin wiped the loose tears away. I want to hang up my paper instead, Jordan. I hopeyou don't mind hanging your paper elsewhere.

Nah, it's okay, said Jordan, waving it off. I was kidding. Kristian mightmisunderstand if he saw my Calculus test paper on the wall of your room. I'm going to keepmy paper safe for now. Jordan watched as Rin ran upstairs and put her essay away beforeshe came back down. It's all thanks to you really.

Back at you, said Rin with a soft smile.Anyways, said Jordan, feeling awkward around Rin now. How did it go withKristian and you? Did you two work things out?

Yes, said Rin firmly. It's a happy day. It's been a long time since I've been this happy over something school-related, said

Jordan under his breath, feeling emotional. Rin nodded in agreement. But really, I'mhappy. I'm so happy right now. I want to feel this happy all the time. Maybe then, Jordanpaused and looked at the ground carefully. I can have a happily ever after.

Jo-kun... said Rin, keeping her eyes on his thoughtful face.Suddenly, Jordan heard knocking on the door so he feigned a loud gasp. Don't tell

me. Kristian is here to catch us in the act.

Rin slapped Jordan on the arm. Shut up! We're not doing anything wrong!I'm hiding, said Jordan, ready to leave when Rin already opened the door to revealVance and Bo. Relieved that it wasn't Kristian, Jordan laughed, Or not.

Practice got canceled, said Vance, going with his first excuse.I want to check your room, said Bo with a broad grin.Rin frowned. For what? For blood, said Bo, pushing his way in. Rin was screaming after Bo about his

perverted comment when Bo paused at the sight of Jordan a little further in. Yo JordanGreene. What are you doing at Hamada-sama's house?

To deliver her essay, said Jordan smoothly with an innocent smile. To deliver my 95%essay, said Rin in correction, remembering why she was happy in

the first place. That's three percent more than usual, Bo, Vance. My Queen is even more perfect than ever, said Bo, making his way into the kitchento look for some coffee for himself.

Vance tossed Jordan a look. A pleasure. Is that sarcasm? asked Jordan in disbelief after the pale boy. With that, Vance joined Bo in the kitchen. Rin watched them for a few seconds

before she closed the door and sighed. She should have known that after ditching school fora day, her closest friends would come to visit her to see what was going on with her andKristian. Admittedly, she did not expect them to see her and Jordan together alone likethis. It was bad timing.

Since I have a job now, said Jordan suddenly. I can only ask for your tutoring two

days a week instead of four.Rin tried to smile. That's fine.I should probably move back in Kristian's house by tonight too, said Jordan quickly,

heading upstairs. We'll talk later.Okay, said Rin, lowering her eyes. Before, it would be Jin and Bo who coming

knocking on my door at times like this...********************************************************

Near the front gate of Long Beach Polytechnic High at the front building, Grant andJin kept a safe distance from each other with solemn looks on their faces. Like Jin, Grant

also had bandages over the injuries he received mostly from Wendy a few days ago. For afew seconds, neither of them spoke to the other. In the end though, Grant took a deepbreath and continued.

I know I didn't make a good impression on you two days ago, said Grant, folding hisarms. But I feel like as someone who has been in your position before, I am obligated totell you this.

I'll listen, said Jin in a calm voice.Don't trust Jez.Jin jerked his head quickly in Grant's direction. Er...I know it's hard to trust someone who beat you so many times with a crowbar, said

Grant with a carefree smile. But I do have my reasons.Jin widened his eyes at the sight of the other boy like this. Unlike last time, Grant

didn't look like an evil person who was trying to hurt his girlfriend with a crowbar. Helooked like a regular boy who attended high school and worked his way against the socialsystem that his school had in place. For whatever reason, Jin got all that just from thatrare smile on Grant's face.

    What reasons? asked Jin cautiously.

Your name again? asked Grant, lifting a brow.Jin, said Jin, trying to smile. Yours?Grant.Jin then, said Grant, wrapping his arms behind his back now. Use your head for a

second. Jezebelle is no ordinary girl. Grant took another deep breath. Jez can readpeople without even trying. She can apply make-up like a pro. She has a lot of followers atthis school, even up to now. She can break my arm if she wants to. Jin frowned. Jez has aunique upbringing you see.

What do you mean by that? asked Jin carefully, reminding himself to takeeverything Grant said with a grain of salt.

Her father is a CEO of a huge company, said Grant slowly as if reciting poetry line

by line to an audience. Her mother is dead. She hates making friends and she hatesgetting herself involved in serious relationships. She acts like she's better than everyoneelse. She only thinks of herself and no one else.

She wants to be loved, said Jin in interruption, causing Grant to lift his eyes at her. That's the conclusion I come up with. It makes sense doesn't it?

She finds love trivial.I'm sure every human being wants to be needed and loved by someone else, said

Jin firmly, gazing straight at Grant.Grant shook his head. Jezebelle doesn't care for those things. She pretends she doesn't care. You're in love with her, said Grant in disbelief. He started cracking up at Jin.

How? How are you possibly in love with her? Jin didn't understand the question. Don'tyou know anything? Bitches like her are the kind you only have fun with. You can't seriouslyfall in love with those types of girls.

You're wrong, said Jin, upset. Why did you date her then?Me? asked Grant, amused. For fun.For fun...No, I'm lying, said Grant, shaking his head in amusement. I dated her because she

promised me she would make me the most popular boy in school. Jin couldn't believe hisears. You get it now? That's who Jezebelle is. She's exactly like her father. Jin thought

about the relationship his father had with Jezebelle's father in the past. She gives youpower and then takes it away whenever she pleases. Without her, the boy she supports can'tremain on top. I wanted to stay there so I submitted to her will. I listened to her everyword. I did everything she asked me to. Grant growled at himself. I was nothing withouther and she knew it. She enjoyed using me for fun. She did that with about seven others.And... Grant stared intently at Jin. You're her next victim, Jin.

Jin.Hearing the familiar voice, Jin whirled around to face Jezebelle. She had a dark lookon her face. Did she hear everything Grant said? Jin didn't know what to say. He didn'tbelieve everything Grant said, but at the same time, he could see some of it being plausiblebecause of who Jezebelle was by nature. He didn't care for any of that because he lovedher but what if she thought otherwise? What if she thought he was working with Grantagainst her?

Jin, said Jezebelle in repetition. She pouted cutely. Aren't you going to watch mytennis match?

Jin stuttered, Yes, er, of course. And Grant, said Jezebelle, smirking at Grant. Even an abandoned, half-beaten

puppy stays loyal to its Master.Without waiting for his reply, Jezebelle motioned for Jin to follow her. They lefttogether when Jin noticed Jezebelle biting her bottom lip. Everywhere they went, studentseither jumped out of Jezebelle's way or greeted her with fear in their eyes. He did notunderstand. What was going on around here? More importantly, why did she keep biting herlip? When he noticed blood on her lips, Jin stopped her and forced her to stay in one spot.

Fi? asked Jin worriedly. What are you doing?I'm not doing anything, said Jezebelle in an even tone. She saw the concern in Jin's

eyes. Actually, you go on ahead. I need to go to the lady's room.Fi... if you need anything...Fuck it. Just go.

Obediently, Jin left and headed toward the tennis courts. He knew where to go sincehe played at Poly before for the boys' team. Once Jin was out of sight, Jezebelle went forthe nearest restroom. The girls inside the restroom gasped at the sight of Jezebelle and leftthe room in a hurry. With them gone, Jezebelle slammed the door and pulled down hertennis shirt to check. Like she thought, her injuries were reopening. She felt the pain onthe way back with Jin.

Jezebelle laughed loudly to herself. Fuck. I hate this school. In the distant tennis courts, Roselle aced for the second time today with the rest of

her school's population at Long Beach Polytechnic High on her side.
