The Forgotten Valley Preschool is a small licensed mobile preschool service operating from venues at South Maroota and Wisemans Ferry and provides a service for 39 families within the Forgotten Valley. Funding has been cut by the Department of Community Services (DOCS) and director Lyn Langdon took a voluntary redundancy as the preschool could no longer afford a university- qualified director. Parent Fiona Robinson said the services were being downgraded which would lead to declining enrolments and eventually closure. ‘‘The community is kicking up a stink,’’ she said. ‘‘There are no other childcare centres for 30km. We are such a remote community we need this centre to stay open. It is an excellent point of contact for both the kids and the young mothers who need that support.’’ The preschool has asked Hills Shire, Hawkesbury and Hornsby councils if they would consider contributing. At last week’s Hills Shire Council meeting, Liberal councillors voted against providing $7500 to support the Forgotten Valley Preschool but agreed to approach the State Government requesting more funds.
