Dear Parishioners whom we miss, These are extraordinary times as we are put to the test in our faith and in our composure as Christians during this pandemic. We are not able to gather as a faith community publicly and we are called to remain calm and to stay in our homes for another 30 days to fight this virus. I commend the American people and especially the people of Aberdeen and South Dakota for their resili-ence and their patience. God will take care of us and has His hands on our world. In Hebrews 1:3 it states, “Holy brothers (sisters) who share a heavenly calling, fix your eyes on Jesus….It is we who are that house if we hold fast to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.” We look to the Lord for our consolation and hope during these trying times. Hold firm to your faith and keep on praying that we see an end to this worldwide pandemic.

It is hard for my heart to comprehend as a priest, that for the first time ever, I will not be able to celebrate the Holy Triduum with a gathering of people in our parish. Most of you know that the Bishop recently announced that the public is not al-lowed in our churches to celebrate this most holy time of the church year. The Triduum is the pinnacle of our faith as Cath-olics and as Christians. My heart aches for each of you and your absence from the pews. However, I am very grateful to all of our parishioners who have called or left notes for our encouragement. We are doing good and we certainly have many hours to be able to pray for you and hope you are doing well. We have tried to provide a way to keep you informed. We thank you for participating in the live stream Masses we have available each day and on Sunday.

The Palm/Passion Sunday Mass will be at 11:30am in the main church. The church will be locked from 11:00am until 1:00pm during this celebration and we ask you to watch it from your homes. The Bishop will also be celebrating Mass at the Cathedral at the regular 10:00am time. You can watch both if you want to be doubly inspired!! We will bless the palms, but they will be available at a later date. We will keep them refrigerated. We also will have the regular scheduled daily Masses on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 10:00am live streamed. There is no morning Mass on Thursday as we begin the most holy Triduum. Holy Thursday Mass is at 7:00pm, we will close the church at 6:00pm for the remainder of the night. The Bishop will celebrate Holy Thursday at the Cathedral at the same time. You can pick and chose which one to view and both of them are recorded. Good Friday service is at 3:00pm and the church will be closed from 2:00pm until 5:00pm. Again, the Bishop will celebrate at the Cathedral at the same time. Holy Saturday Mass is at 8:00pm and the church will be closed 6:00pm for the remainder of the night. Again, the Bishop will celebrate at the same time. Finally, Easter Sunday Mass will be at 11:30am with the church closed from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Bishop will have the reg-ular Sunday Mass at 10:00am, which will be on Kelo-Land TV. Please pick a Mass to celebrate with your family and pray for each other and for Sacred Heart Parish and for and end to the pandemic. Father Patrick and I send you our sincere love and care during this unusual time. If you need anything, we have staff on hand to answer e-mail and the phone. Happy Holy Week! Fr. Mark

PS. The only scheduled confessions are on Monday and Wednesday nights at 5:00pm and Father Patrick and I will be in the sacristy and the small chapel respectively. You can also call the office to schedule an appointment for confession.

From the Pastor

The 2020 Sacred Heart Bazaar will be held Sunday, October 11th. We are looking for a group of people to form a chair commit-tee instead of a chair and co-chair. Please prayerfully consider stepping up to be a part of this committee. Thank you and God Bless!

Sacrificial Giving and some thoughts…. “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” As part of his stewardship, a poor villager has provided the donkey for Jesus’ ride. In such a small, yet significant way, we, too, provide for the ministry of Christ. May we in our own way be as faithful as this unnamed villager.

*******JUST FOR LAUGHS******

Home in Heaven

A pastor and a taxi driver both died and went to heaven. St. Peter was at the pearly gates waiting for them.

“Come with me,” said St. Peter to the taxi driver. The taxi driver did as he was told and followed St. Peter to a mansion. It had everything you could imagine, from a bowl-ing alley to an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

“Wow, thank you,” said the taxi driver. Next, St. Peter led the pastor to a rugged old shack with a bunk bed and a little old television set. “Wait, I think you are a little mixed up,” said the pastor. “Shouldn’t I be the one who gets the mansion? After all, I was a pastor, went to church every day, and preached God’s word.”

“Yes, that’s true,” said St. Peter. “But during your sermons, people slept. When the taxi driver drove, everyone prayed.”

COMING SOON: THE SACRED HEART DOMESTIC CHURCH INITIATIVE

You, as parents, have the dignity of being the “original and irreplaceable” person in your child’s religious journey. The family is the primary community in the faith journey of the child; it is the “domestic church,” because it is within the life of the family we find the first and privileged place of the Christian community lived. You are “the first heralds of the faith.” Home is where “faith works through love” and a relationship with God is nurtured. You have shared the gift of human life with your child, and through Baptism, you have enriched your child with a share in God’s own life. Your faith, your attitude toward others, and your trust in a loving God strongly influences the development of your child’s faith. Keep an eye out in your email inbox and on social media in the coming weeks for more on this exciting initiative!

Wisdom from the Saints People are made for happiness. Rightly, then, you thirst for happiness. Christ has the answer to this desire of yours. But he asks you to trust him. - St. John Paul II
