SACRED HEART PARISH IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant will work as a vital part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to Passionately Live the Gospel’ to realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, coordinating cantors and accompanists, and maintaining the pipe organ and piano. A full job description can be found at sacredheartaberdeen.net/employment-opportunities. Interested candidates are asked to send a copy of their resume and an accompanying cover letter to Fr. Mark Lichter, Pastor of Sacred Heart, at [email protected], or by mail to 502 2nd Ave SE Aberdeen, SD 57401.

Welcome to our Parish! We celebrate the 18th Sunday in Ordinary time with an emphasis on listening to the voice of God. The readings help us reflect on setting our heart on what lasts forever. We only fool our-selves if we believe that our possessions will bring us happiness and life. Instead, “grow rich in the sight of the Lord.” I have never seen a burial where anyone has taken anything with them! Enclosed in the bulletin today is an envelope for the Peter’s Pence collection. This is a world wide appeal by the universal church and the work of Pope Francis. This helps remind us that we belong to a bigger church and that there are many needs in the ministry of Pope Francis and reaching out to the needy both spiritually and physically around the world. Thank you for your generosity! Also, I would like to introduce a change in the way we report our weekly giving to the parish. Presently we re-port our income needs each week which does not always present an accurate assessment of our budget. To help make things more clear the Finance Council suggested and I concur that we report on a monthly basis and have a comparison between this years month and last years month along with the proposed monthly budget. So with that said, we will begin this process in August after the July report is complete. This will give us a better way to make conclusions on where we are at to date and where we are headed. I’d like to thank the Finance Council for their invaluable work and their consultation. This parish is gifted with many very capable financial wizards! I would also like to thank the parish for your generosity in response to the letter I sent you as we closed out the fiscal year. We were headed for a deficit and with your response we as a parish alleviated this challenge. To show your generosity, last years income for June was over $68,000 as compared to a jump to over $81,000 this June. Wow! It is a significant jump in income of 19% for June and some of this can be attributed to your re-sponse to my letter. Thank you! Remember the Lord loves a cheerful giver and does not want us to store up for ourselves our treasures, but asks us to give in the measure we have been given. When we are gifted with more, we do not tear down our barns and build larger ones, because our lives might be required of us today or tonight! God bless you and have a great week! Fr. Mark A Funny For You: St. Peter halted a man at the entrance to heaven. “You’ve told too many lies to be permitted in here, “ he said. “Have a heart,” replied the man. “Remember, you were once a fisherman yourself.” :)
