Sacrificial Giving and some thoughts….. Hebrews 13:16—”Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God”

Hospitality is an ancient Hebrew and Christian con-cept-to welcome the stranger. The Letter to the He-brews tells us we entertain angels unbeknownst to us when we offer hospitality. Thanks to your giving of time, ability, and financial resources we become an hospitable church. We know God wants us to reach out and welcome the newcomer. Thank you, for by your offering of yourselves, we are welcoming those whom God has brought to our church!

SACRED HEART PARISH IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant

will work as a vital part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to

Passionately Live the Gospel’ to realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical

services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, coordinating cantors and accompanists, and

maintaining the pipe organ and piano. A full job description can be found at sacredheartaberdeen.net/employment-opportunities. Interested candidates are

asked to send a copy of their resume and an accompanying cover letter to Fr. Mark Lichter, Pastor of Sacred Heart, at [email protected], or by mail to 502 2nd Ave SE Aberdeen, SD 57401.

God bless you! I had the privilege to go from 83 degree temperature to a minus 3 degrees in my return from retreat in Clearwater, Florida! I had a great retreat and I am ready to come back to you with renewed hope and faith in a God who saves us. I prayed for you often on retreat as I know you did for me. It is very good to be home and back to Sacred Heart Parish! There were 19 priests from all around the United States that joined together at the retreat house called the “Cenacle of Mary” which is served by the Marian Servants of Divine Providence. This is an Institute for Priestly Formation sponsored retreat and is to help enkindle into flame the things that we learned in the our training as spiritual directors. Continue to hold in prayer all those priests who were on retreat with me. They came from Florida, New York, Minnesota, Ohio, Michigan, Nebraska, Virginia, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa, Georgia, and of course, South Dakota. A big thank you goes out to Father Patrick for his work the past week.

As I began retreat, this prayer was given to us: “O little man (woman), escape from your everyday business for a short while, hide for a moment from your restless thoughts. Break off from your cares and troubles and be less concerned about your tasks and labors. Make a little time for God and rest a while in him. En-ter into your mind’s inner chamber. Shut out everything but God and whatever helps you to look for him; and when you have shut the door, look for him. Speak now to God and say with your whole heart; I seek your face; your face, Lord, I desire.” (St. Anselm, introduction to the Proslogion)

As the Church mandates that the clergy take a retreat each year, I wish I could mandate all of our parishioners to do a retreat each year. It does make a difference when we go off and rest awhile in the Lord. I encourage you to take the time each day to say the above prayer and let your hearts rest in the Lord. There are plenty of opportuni-ties in the Diocese for retreats, please check it out! We will also have opportunities within the parish to take time out from your busy schedules and rest. Be watching the bulletin!

One of the scripture passage that I meditated on was Jeremiah 29:11-14: “I know the plans I have for you…” “to give you a future and a hope…” “You will seek me and find me…” Amen! Amen!

Have a great week and keep on praying! Fr. Mark
