Through art, Breckenridge expresses itself as a town like no other, where the simple charms of our surroundings connect the most unlikely of neighbors: hunters to hippies, liberals to libertarians, beer drinkers to cosmic thinkers. Here, everyone has a voice they are encouraged to express. And the melody they create is anything but monotone.

BreckCreate drives home the importance of the arts in establishing Breckenridge’s identity. It motivates the sharing of fresh perspectives; it entices those from outside the local community to engage Breckenridge as a creative destination. It promises an evolving experience that reinvigorates the soul with every return visit.

The Breckenridge Arts District is the region’s newest epicenter of creativity, bringing together studios, galleries, performance spaces, historic landmarks, public art, restaurants, cafés, and other creative businesses that animate and populate a vibrant cultural corridor in downtown Breckenridge.

The Arts District’s core attraction is a new multi-facility arts campus that hosts workshops, exhibits, artists-in-residence, and a variety of other activities for locals and visitors alike. With a focus on educational and experiential enrichment, programs include classes in several media such as textiles, ceramics, metalwork, painting, and more. Complete with decorative plazas and sculpture gardens, the Arts District campus serves as a community gathering place and a catalyst for creative expression in Breckenridge.

Visit breckcreate.org for more information. 24-hour pre-registration required for workshops. All materials included unless otherwise noted.

Christine Armitage was trained in the

Vaganova Ballet method under the

tutelage of Mikhail Korogodsky of the

Riga Ballet and Yelena Ryabinkina of

the Bolshoi Ballet.

After high school, Christine performed

with the Philadelphia Ballet Theatre’s

Corp de Ballet in classical repertoire.

Christine danced soloist roles for PBT

in Giselle, Don Quixote and Sleeping

Beauty. Christine was an instructor

and coach at PBT and also had a

role as Production Manager with the

company.

In addition to her love of ballet,

Christine grew up in Philadelphia

and was influenced by many of the

early rap artists that made the Philly

hip-hop scene so dynamic. Christine

teaches a fun and laid back hip-hop

class that anyone can enjoy.

architect Mary Hart, this salon explores the intersection

of design, innovation, creativity and biomimicry.

BREW is salon series that provides thought-provoking

discussion for and among creative professionals with

varied topics designed to engage and inspire. Part party, part

When Martha was 18 years old she

worked at the Chinese Laundry in

Breckenridge selling Indian jewelry,

which started her interest and career

in metalsmithing.

Martha graduated with honors from

Rochester Institute of Technology,

School for the American Craftsman

with a Bachelor of Arts Degree,

majoring in Metalsmithing, and

studying under Gary Griffin and Hans

Christensen. Martha worked for John

Atencio as his lead Goldsmith and

Jeweler where she made beautiful

gold and diamond custom jewelry. The

years spent working for John Atencio

allowed Martha to refine her ability to

create pieces that juxtaposed strong

yet delicate lines with a modern flair.

Colorado native, Christian Tai Leach, was inspired by his uncle Danny Valdes, an artist in Santa Fe, who suggested Tai paint one of his old snowboards. Since that first snowboard painting in 2000, Tai has painted over 200 snowboards.

Today, Tai paints on snowboards, skateboards, and other recycled materials, giving them new life as art. Though self-taught, Tai has developed a masterful use of color and the ability to create movement and energy in his work. His depictions of Colorado mountains, wildlife, urban cityscapes, and women exhibit his uniquely raw style. In his free time, Tai is passionate about snowboarding, four-wheeling, and skateboarding. He currently lives in Dillon, Colorado.

/krē’āt/ : to make or produce: to cause to exist: to bring into being Launched in December 2015, /krē’āt/ is an online magazine published quarterly by Breckenridge Creative Arts. Each issue profiles a creative individual or business, cultural organization, event and object of art in a thoughtfully curated visual journey that aims to highlight and promote the greater creative community of Breckenridge. Our winter issue features the photography of pro-snowboarder Chad Otterstrom, local history with the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance and the upcoming Fire Arts Festival, now in its second year. To read the first edition of /krē’āt/, please visit breckcreate.org/publications.
