I am soooo tired, all this Olympic training is really cutting into my nap time. Ok, well, actually, my training is all about nap- ping… and howling. But really, how much can a poor hound take? I tried to tell Mom that I wanted to try the treat toss again, just to break up the regi- men. She never listens to me. I mean, it’s not like I couldn’t use a few extra treats, you know?! Sheesh, Mom! I am very excited about the Spring Games event, though. It’s so much fun to spend the day in the park with all of my friends, and get to compete in the events. And sometimes, Mom even wins a basket full of goodies for me in that big raffle-thing that the humans do. I hope you are all coming to the event this year; it’s going to be a wonderful day. Tell your humans that the information and registration form are on page 2, and that they need to get you signed up SOON! While you’re at it, tell them you need more treats and belly rubs… I mean, as long as you have their attention, might as well get a few other demands in; right? WHOA! I had quite a milestone recently; I turned 5 years old! Al- though Mom says she doesn’t know when my actual birth- day is (and I’m not telling her), she likes to celebrate it on April 1st. Something about a foolish day or something like that… I don’t know. Anyway, we did some fun stuff to cel- ebrate – we went to the park and saw all of our friends, and I got an extra special dinner – Mom cooked me some chicken. I’d like to know why we haven’t done that before, that was delicious! And I got to go to the pet store and pick out a new toy, too. It was a really fun day because it was all about me. I think every day should be a foolish birthday kind of day. I think I should get home-cooked chicken every day and go to the park every day, and get extra belly rubs every day. I mean, really, is it so much to ask? I think next year I would like to have a party like my friend Maggie did. That was fun, too. Of course, I wouldn’t mind if we had both a “ME” day AND a birthday party. WHOA! OK, that’s enough about me… for now, anyway. I have to get back to my training. There are more naps to take, more howling to be done, and maybe even a few treats to not catch, but eat anyway! I can’t wait to see you all at the 16th Annual BHRSC Spring Games! Bring your game face, friends… ‘cuz I’m coming in strong this year! WHOA! BHRSC Update! Basset Hound Rescue of Southern California has already taken in more than 40 homeless hounds this year, and the year is only a few months old! That’s a lot of houndage! In an effort to make sure we aren’t spending any money that we don’t have to, on stuff that isn’t directly benefiting the hounds, we have taken a look at all of our “non-hound” expenses. We discovered that we could save a whole lot of money by switching our hotline provider. Unfortunately, that means also switching our hotline phone number. So please make a note that BHRSC has a new hotline phone number - (949) 484-9065. We’ll be promoting this number in many ways so that everyone will know about the change, and the old number will advise callers of the new number for a few months. So if you meet anyone that is interested in adopt- ing, fostering, volunteering, or just wants to call us and say “HI”, please be sure to give them our new hotline phone number! And don’t forget to make the change in your phone book, your rolodex, in your contacts list in your cell phone and all those places you might be keeping phone numbers.

Hi everybody! WHOA! I am soooo tired, all this Olympic training is really cutting into my nap time. Ok, well, actually, my training is all about nap-ping… and howling. But really, how much can a poor hound take? I tried to tell Mom that I wanted to try the treat toss again, just to break up the regi-

men.

BHRSC - Foster Volunteers

We had a fantastic turnout for our APRIL Breakfast with Bassets and Pictures with the Easter Bunny! We saw lots of familiar faces, met some nice new folks and their hounds, and even had an adoption! We also sold some lovely Easter hats and bunny ears, compli-ments of Sharon Nagy, which, combined with our do-nations for the day, gave us a grand total of $175.00 raised for the hounds! Thanks to everyone that came, bought some goodies, got their picture taken with the bunny, and donated to the hounds! Special thanks to Sharon and Dutch Nagy for putting such a lovely event together, to Melissa & Paul Ruthenbeck-Chiaramonte for organizing a fun Easter egg hunt, to Nancy Tim-mons for her photography skills, and to Paul Ruthen-beck-Chiaramonte for being our Easter Bunny!

TOULOUSE Well, hello there, I’m TOULOUSE and my name says it all: I’m a sophisticated, 7-year-old gentle soul. I’m not a puppy anymore, so I won’t be causing any of that commotion, but I do still have energy and would enjoy a good walk each day, and I’m a good walker too... and a great sniffer. I look forward to finding my forever home and getting to know my new family. Could that be you?!

Hi there, my name is BRUNO and I’m a 6-year-old guy. Boy, did I just have a close call. The shelter ran out of room and I was asked to leave – pronto! Thank heavens, a very nice lady from BHRSC rushed over to pick me up. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you. I love snuggling and just sitting right next to you…or on you. And, I could use some tender loving care right about now. Car rides are also great fun for me; not sure I understand it, but I do love it. I’m sure I’d be a laid back addition to your family. So, let’s meet! Call BHRSC as soon as pos-sible so we can set up a meet-and-greet.

Hello! My name is ANNA. I was found wandering around San Diego looking for love. I heard about this great website for lonely hounds and thought I would give it a try, so I joined BHRSC. I am a sophisticated and mature girl. A real lady doesn’t give her age, so let’s just say I am about 10. I am a real people hound and would adore it if my new person was loving and affectionate (because I love to snuggle and be touched). If you have kids or other pets in the house, that would be okay with me. I love everyone! As you can see, I am a tri-color female with beautiful eyes and a nice coat. Oh, and I love walks and behave my very best on a leash. I am a little tired of the singles scene; won’t you be my forever human?

BRUNO

ANNA

Hi there, BUDDY here! I’m about 6 years old and I have a very distinctive characteristic – one blue eye! It’s just one of the many very cool things about me. I also like to snuggle with my family and I’m happy to hang out with older chil-dren too. I love to play fetch and I really appreciate a good, long run. (It’s great to get outdoors and see the world!) I’m house-trained, but I may need a refresher course, as my previous family kept me outside all the time. I’m also a good watchdog. Most of all, I’m eager to meet you, so please contact BHRSC soon.

Want to meet a sweet, mature little lady? Then hurry and get in touch with BHRSC soon! My name is MAGGIE-MAY and I’m just about as sweet as they come. I was surrendered because my family was moving and unable to find accommodations for me. I like other dogs, older chil-dren and just hanging out with the entire family. I’ve been told I’m a mellow gal that doesn’t get ruffled about anything – one of the nice things that comes with age. I’m house-trained and I walk nicely on a leash. I do enjoy a nice saunter where I can do a lot of sniffing. If you would be so kind as to give me my forever home I would be most grateful.

MAGGIE-MAY

BIG MAX here, checking in … I’m a cool, 7-year-old basset guy. My name is really only Max, but because I’m a tad over my ideal weight (okay, more than a tad), folks have started calling me Big Max and I kind of like it. It makes me sound important, and lately I haven’t felt that way very often. You see, my owner couldn’t afford to keep me, so here I am. I love sniffing, eating and sleeping. I’m hoping to add daily walks to my list of hobbies. Think about it. We could get in shape together. … And, to those of you with fancy phones, there’s an app called “Map My DOGWALK” we could use to track all of our walks! Maybe I could even rate the routes by sniffability and, well… I’m getting ahead of myself. But please call BHRSC as soon as possible so we can start our fitness regime together!

Hi, my name is BOGIE. I’m a true hound at heart! I’m just a 7-year-old boy looking for a new home. I’d like to find a family with a play buddy, as I do get somewhat lonely. I’ve lived with cats and I’m fine with them, but they don’t really like to play much. Also, I’m house-trained and I know basic commands. I love going on walks and sniffing all the neat stuff we find along the way. And another bonus, I’m a mature boy, and I promise not to chew your things or be destructive while you’re away. Companionship is really important to me, I just want to spend some time with you, and I promise you’ll be first on my lovin’ list!
