BEST OF BREED COMPETITION

Bred-by-Exhibitor (BBE) Class eligibility All dogs entered in the Bred-By class must be individually registered with the AKC The Person handling the dog must be breeder of record of the dog and an owner of record of the dog. To exhibit in this class, family members must be a breeder and owner of record.

Non-Regular Classes - Involving Multiple Dog Entries

As the judge’s decisions in the Non-Regular Classes involving Multiple Entries are based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the

entry judged first in these classes will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won these classes. Stud Dog Class - For a Stud Dog and two of his Get. It is not necessary that the Get be under the same ownership as that of the Stud Dog. The Get must be entered in one of the Regular or Non-Regular Classes (other than Stud Dog). The Stud Dog to be shown in the ring with the Get, but the class to be judged based on the merits of the Get. While the merits of the Stud Dog are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the Stud Dog must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require its disqualification or excusal under the Dog Show Rules, AKC policy, or the standard for the breed. Brood Bitch Class - Same as above except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get. Brace Class. For two dogs having at least one common owner(s), irrespective of sex. Dogs compromising a Brace must be named in “Additional Entry” portion of the entry form. If a dog that is to be part of a Brace is not entered in another class it must be entered for “Brace Class Only”. In making entries for “Brace Class Only”, full particulars must be given for each dog on individual regular entry forms. If more than one Brace is entered by the same owner, the dogs comprising EACH Brace must be so designated “Brace No. 1”, Brace No. 2”, etc.

PUPPY SWEEPSTAKES The Sweepstakes is open to all Basset Hounds who, on the day of the show, will be 6 months of age and under 18 months of age. Entries must be made at the same time and on the same entry form as the regular classes. All prize money is the property of the owner. Sweepstakes entries may be handled by any person. .

Entries in Veteran Sweepstakes are encouraged but not required to be entered in a non-regular or Best of Breed competition. Dogs that have been castrated and bitches that have been spay may be entered in these classes. Entry Fee: $10.00

DIRECTIONS

The Royal Plaza Trade Center is located 0.5 miles west of the Intersection of Interstate 495 and Route 20 (Boston Post Road W) in Marlborough, MA. On Interstate 495 in Massachusetts, take Exit 24B. From the North: Follow the ramp to the stop sign. Merge into traffic and stay in the right lane. Travel approximately 0.5 miles and turn right at the sign for the Best Western Hotel. Trade Center will be ahead on the left. Hotel is further ahead at the end of the road. From the South: Follow the ramp to the stop sign. Merge into traffic and cross over Interstate 495, staying in the right lane. Follow directions above.

CONDITIONAL, UNSIGNED, INCOMPLETE, TELEPHONE, OR TELEGRAPH entries cannot be accepted. ENTRIES NOT ON OFFICIAL AKC ENTRY FORMS or photocopies of entry forms without the agreement and rules on the reverse side of the Official AKC entry forms are NOT ACCEPTABLE. THE CLUB AND ITS SHOW SECRETARY ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or agent of the owner. This Club and its Show Secretary assume no responsibility for the owner or owner’s agent entering a dog twice or in a class for which the dog is ineligible to compete. FEES MUST ACCOMPANY ENTRIES. ENTRY FEES will not be refunded in event of errors or cancellation of entries after the published closing date, nor in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, or excused by the Veterinarian or Judge or barred from competition by the Bench Show Committee, or because the dog is ineligible to compete because it is incorrectly entered. If because of riot, civil disturbances, or other acts beyond the control of the management it is impossible to open the show, no refund of entry fee(s) will be made. Extreme weather conditions, such as but not limited to snow storms, hurricanes, lightning, extreme heat, must be considered for the health and safety of the dogs, judges, exhibitors and spectators. The well being of dogs and participants is of paramount importance and in the event it is necessary to cancel or stop the show before completion, no refund of entry fee will be made.

DOGS NEED TO BE AT THE SHOW only at scheduled time of judging and may leave immediately thereafter, unless required for further judging. DOGS MUST BE READY FOR JUDGING. Judges will not wait for any dog holding up a class. Owners or their agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging ring. CLOSING DATE for entries 4:00PM, Wednesday, July 30, 2014 (at Secretary’s Home) after which time entries cannot be accepted, cancelled or substituted except as provided for in Chapter 11, Section 6 of the Dog Show Rules. A RECORDING FEE of $0.50 & a service fee of $3.00 will be required for each dog entered at any Licensed or Member Club Show, Obedience Trial or Tracking Test. These Fees are to be collected by the Show giving Club and paid to the American Kennel Club. If a dog is entered in more than one class in the show, the Recording Fee is to be collected on the first entry only. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 11, Section 2). A fee of $3.00 is required for each additional entry. POST DATED CHECKS AND RETURNED CHECKS do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Pilgrim Basset Hound Club will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check. Subsequently returned checks from the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. MAIL ALL ENTRIES WITH FEES TO: Alice Smith, 2 Leslie Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938. MAKE ALL CHECKS AND MONEY ORDERS payable to: Pilgrim Basset Hound Club CANADIAN exhibitors must make fees payable in U.S. FUNDS. Please mail checks or money orders with entries. Secretary assumes no responsibility for cash sent through the mail. CONSULT JUDGING PROGRAM FOR TIME OF JUDGING. DOGS MAY ARRIVE any time prior to their scheduled time of judging. DOGS NOT REQUIRED for further judging will be excused. CONFIRMATION OF ENTRY & JUDGING SCHEDULE will be sent to the address on the Official AKC entry form after the closing date. If an exhibitor has not received a copy of the Judging Schedule the Show Secretary should be contacted. PLEASE NOTE Dogs will be allowed in the building beginning at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 15,

2014. Doors will close promptly at 11:00 PM and will reopen at 6:00 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2014. There will be a guard in the building 24 hours a day.

There will be a small area in the unreserved crating section available for basset exhibitors. Wachusett Kennel Club has premium crating with electricity and reserved

crating without electricity available for a fee.

X-pens will be provided in convenient areas outside under a tent. Please do not allow your dogs to urinate on walls. CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOGS!!

Parking is free for passenger vehicles at this specialty and all weekend.

Admission is free to all for this Friday specialty. For the weekend, exhibitors will receive admission wristbands but spectators will need to pay an entrance fee.

There will be non-regular Veteran Groups on Saturday and a Beginner (4-6 Month) Puppy Competition on Sunday with prizes for basset hounds.
