More than 200 pipeline and grading contractors and construction industry professionals from West Virgin-ia, Ohio and Pennsylvania attended Leslie Equipment Company’s 2018 Pipeline and Grading Equipment Expo at the dealership’s Fairmont, West Virginia, branch on Feb. 1. The event served as a showcase for Leslie Equipment Company’s lineup of equipment ready to take on the resurgence in the region’s energy resources development.

Featured at the event were the new John Deere 1050K PL170-220 pipelayer and new John Deere 950K LGP dozer. The event also highlighted John Deere’s 700K and 750K dozers equipped with Top Con Grade Con-trol; the new Prime Tech PT 300 mulcher; and at-tachments from Allied Construction Products, Allu Screening Attachment, Kent Couplers, Rockland At-tachments, Vacuworx lifting attachments, Pitts Trail-ers, Tag Buckets, Prinoth Trucks, Rotobec Products and JGL Telehandlers.

As a primary focus at the event, John Deere’s 1050K pipelayer-ready crawler tractor commanded a good deal of attention. The 350-horsepower 1050Ks on dis-play were configured for a maximum-lift-capacities of 170,000 and 220,000 lbs. and featured a dual-path hydrostatic transmission along with electro-hydrau-lic controls for precise metering capabilities needed when placing pipe. The John Deere 1050K is built fac-tory ready for installation of side booms and are de-signed for quick bolt-on/pin-up installation. The side booms installed on the John Deere 1050K displayed

at the event were manufactured by Midwestern. As an added safety feature, the machines include a roof-mounted skylight for a clear view of the boom.

Leslie Equipment Company representatives as well as factory representatives from many of the equip-ment lines featured were on hand to greet attendees and give information about the equipment on display.

The dealership’s shop area was set up as an indoor display area however, there also was a large outdoor equipment display area for attendees to visit and dis-cuss specific features and capabilities of the machines set up for review. Attendees were treated to lunch and door prizes and a drawing was conducted to award special prizes.

Established in 1967, Leslie Equipment Company maintains an extensive inventory of new and used machines, as well as pipeline and grading equipment, the company’s line up of machines includes asphalt rollers and compactors, backhoe loaders, bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, off-highway trucks, skid steer loaders, wheel loaders, forestry equipment and a variety of attachments. OH; approximately 3.2 miles of 24-inch pipeline looping in Greene County, PA; the re-wheel of compressors on three existing centrifugal compression sets at Dominion’s existing Newark Compressor Station in Licking County, OH; the in-stallation of regulation equipment at Dominion existing South Bend Compressor Station in Armstrong County, PA and Leidy M&R Station in Clinton County, PA; and the construc-tion of related appurtenant facilities. Dominion is proposing incremental rates for transportation service on the facilities proposed for construction herein. The cost of the project will be $49,876,709 million. If approved, the project will begin construction in early 2019 and will complete in late 2019.

Eastern Shore Natural Gas Company has received a favorable Environmental Assessment for its 2017 Expan-sion Project. The project would involve construction of ap-proximately 40 miles of pipeline and appurtenant facilities located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware to provide 61,162 dekatherms per day of additional firm transportation service. Final FERC approval is pending.

Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. announced that its subsid-iaries Dakota Access, LLC (“Dakota Access”) and Energy Transfer Crude Oil Company, LLC (“ETCO”) recently held

a Binding Expansion Open Season (“Expansion Open Sea-son”) to solicit shipper commitments for expanded joint tar-iff transportation service from the Bakken/Three Forks play in North Dakota to storage terminals located in Nederland, Texas through their respective pipeline systems (collectively, the “Bakken Pipeline System”). Dakota Access and ETCO anticipate that incremental capacity on the Bakken Pipeline System will be determined based on committed subscrip-tions made by shippers during the Expansion Open Season. The Bakken Pipeline System is operated by a wholly owned subsidiary of ETP.

Enterprise Products Partners L.P. announced that the partnership plans to add 300 million cubic feet per day (“MMcf/d”) of incremental capacity at its cryogenic natural gas processing facility under construction near Orla, Texas in Reeves County. The addition of a third processing train at Orla would increase inlet volume capacity to 900 MMcf/d and allow Enterprise to expand its natural gas liquids (“NGL”) extraction capabilities by an incremental 40,000 barrels per day (“BPD”) to 120,000 BPD. The third processing train is expected to begin service in the second quarter of 2019 and will complement trains one and two, which are on sched-ule for completion in the second and third quarters of 2018.

DTE Appalachia Midstream has received FERC approval for the Birdsboro Pipeline project. The project will involve the installation of approximately 14 miles of 12-inch diameter pipeline in Berks County, Pennsylvania in order to transport natural gas from an interconnection with the Texas Eastern Transmission LP mainline to a new gas-fired electricity gen-erating facility to be located in the Borough of Birdsboro, Pennsylvania (Birdsboro Facility). The Birdsboro Facility is being developed by Birdsboro Power LLC.

The FERC is preparing an Environmental Impact State-ment that will discuss the environmental impacts of the Midcontinent Supply Header Interstate Pipeline Project (MIDSHIP Project) involving construction and operation of facilities by Midship Pipeline Company, LLC in Kingfisher, Canadian, Grady, Garvin, Stephens, Carter, Johnston, and Bryan Counties, Oklahoma and leased capacity on existing pipeline infrastructure in Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana. The project is proposed by Cheniere Energy Inc. The Mid-ship Pipeline would draw natural gas out of production areas in the SCOOP and STACK plays in Oklahoma and into U.S. Gulf Coast markets. The project includes construction and operation of about 218 miles of mainline and lateral natural gas pipeline and appurtenant facilities from Okarche to Ben-nington, Oklahoma, and to lease approximately 353 miles of existing pipeline capacity. Zone 1 of the MIDSHIP Project would consist of the following facilities in Oklahoma: approx-imately 198 miles of new 36-inch diameter mainline pipeline in Kingfisher, Canadian, Grady, Garvin, Stephens, Carter, Johnston, and Bryan Counties; approximately 20 miles of new 24-inch diameter lateral pipeline (referred to as the “Ch-isholm Lateral”) in Kingfisher County; three new compressor stations, totaling 124,710 horsepower, in Canadian, Garvin, and Bryan Counties; nine receipt and two delivery meter stations in Kingfisher, Canadian, Grady, Garvin, and Bryan Counties; and other appurtenant facilities. Zone 2 of the MIDSHIP Project would involve 353 miles of existing pipeline capacity leased from the Midcontinent Express Pipeline LLC, and/or Gulf Crossing Pipeline Company LLC pipelines, oper-ated by Kinder Morgan and Boardwalk Pipeline. The pipeline itself is expected to enter service in early 2019.

Cimarron River Pipeline, LLC has filed a pre-filing request for the Cimarron Expansion Project. The project would in-clude extending Cimarron’s pipeline system approximately 45 miles by constructing new pipeline in Beaver County, Oklahoma and Seward County, Kansas and leasing approxi-mately 21 miles of an existing, currently idle pipeline in Tex-as County and Beaver Counties, Oklahoma, from Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Inc. An anticipated FERC applica-

tion filing date is January 2018 with anticipated construction slated for January 2019.

NAmerico Partners LP is proposing a multibillion-dollar pipeline (Pecos Trail Pipeline) to carry natural gas from fast-growing fields in West Texas to the Gulf Coast. The pipeline, one of at least three being considered to ease a looming gas glut in the Permian producing region, would link to existing lines, including those that export gas to Mexico and to a Cheniere Energy Inc. liquefied natural gas export facility under construction. The pipeline would be the first major project by NAmerico Partners, founded two years ago in Houston. The company is backed by private equity fund Cresta Energy LP, whose management includes former ex-ecutives from Regency Energy Partners LP, a large energy infrastructure company that was bought by Energy Transfer Partners (ETP.N) in 2015. A spokesperson from NAmerico stated that discussions with prospective shippers were at an advanced stage, and the pipeline would begin opera-tions in 2019 if enough of them committed to supplying gas. NAmerico's 468-mile (753-km) pipeline, named the Pecos Trail Pipeline, would transport some 1.85 billion cubic feet

per day of natural gas to the major Gulf Coast refining and petrochemical hub in Corpus Christi. Kinder Morgan, which operates the largest natural gas pipeline network in North America, also recently outlined a plan to build a 430-mile pipeline traveling a similar route. It would be able to move 1.7 bcf per day of gas. Enterprise Products Partners, an-other large pipeline operator, has said it may build a gas line to Corpus Christi, Texas, from the Permian. Kinder Morgan has also said its pipeline would begin operations in 2019 if enough shippers commit. Analysts said the potential for new supplies could allow multiple projects to proceed. The projects are being planned as big producers including Exx-on Mobil, Apache Corp. and Chevron Corp. are expected to pour billions of dollars into drilling in the Permian, a vast shale play in West Texas known for its low production costs and massive reserves.

Northern Natural Gas Co. has initiated use of the FERC pre-filing process for the Northern Lights Expansion 2019/Rochester Expansion project. The project is composed of two discrete projects, the Northern Lights 2019 Expansion component and the Rochester Expansion component. The two projects will be built at the same time and Northern will be combining the two projects for the pre-filing into a single

Buck Dixon was born on March 9, 1932 in rural Prue, Oklahoma on what many called “Mud Creek.” He was the son of Troy and Lela Dixon. As a young man, he was raised in Osage, Oklahoma where he began his education. He graduated from Osage High School in 1950. Following graduation, Buck was united in marriage to Norma Jean Hulet in Cleveland, Oklahoma on August 9, 1950. Buck and Norma started traveling the United States as Buck began work in the pipeline construction industry. Buck started as a common laborer and as the years passed progressed to become a General Superintendent with different pipeline construction companies. He also diversified into the oil business and owned many leases in Osage County, Oklahoma. Even though Buck and Norma lived in many parts of the United States, they always considered Hominy, Oklahoma their home where they lived since 1960. Buck loved to fish, hunt, watch OU football and especially basketball. In high school, he was an exceptional basketball player and upon gradu-ation from high school was offered many basketball scholarships. The thing he loved to do the most was work. It seemed like not a day went by that he wasn’t working somewhere on something. He had a sweet tooth and enjoyed Norma’s “Red Cake.” At the end of every day when possible, you could find him fishing especially for largemouth bass most generally in fishing ponds regardless of what part of the country he was in. As a pipeliner, he learned how to operate many pieces of equipment and was especially gifted at boring roads with the old cradle type boring machines. His ability to manage people made him an exceptional superintendent. In the oil business, he loved to operate his old cable tool drilling rig and maintain his leases daily. Certain times of the year he and Norma would especially enjoy fishing for crappie. He was a loving person and always looked for the good in everyone and would help oth-

ers whenever the opportunity presented itself. Buck Austin Dixon passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years 11 months and three days. Survivors are his children, Jim Austin Dixon and wife June of Yukon, Oklahoma, Barry Lynn Dixon of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Brent Lewis Dixon of Hominy, Oklahoma, Julie Darlene Dixon of Sand Springs, Oklaho-ma; eight grandchildren, Chad, Doug, Darren, Andy, Dinah, Dan-iel, Bridget and Hannah. Eleven great-randchildren; Kelsie, Kam-ryn, Sydney, Dylan, London, Brooklyn, Maelyn, Ellie, Cruz Dixon and Gerick and Delainy Smyth, three sisters Marie Caldwell, June Cook and Bonnie Upshaw as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenny and sister Shirley.

James D. “Big Jim” Strange Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 11, 2018 due to kidney failure. He was born October 1, 1930 in Stamps, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lee Joyce Sims Strange and Vicki Joyce Strange Griner (daughter). He is survived by a son James D. “Jimmy” Strange Jr.; two granddaughters, four grandsons and nine great grandchildren. The

last few months of his life were spent with his youngest grand-daughter, Dallas French who along with her husband Eric, moved “Big Jim” into their house and she quit her job to care for him. A huge “thank you” to her, her husband and Hospice for their sacri-fice and love. Big Jim oiled for his Uncle Luther who ran a dragline and clam in 1947-48 and helped break him out as an operator. He was able to buy a union book out of Local 150 (Joliet, IL) in 1948 and marry his wife in 1949. His range of operator skills were wide including dozer, backhoe and sideboom, but his skill as a “Clam Hand” is what defined his career through the 1950’s and 60’s. He has had many nicknames through the years including “Coonie”, “Showdog” and “Drag-Up King” and most of his contemporaries are either passed on or retired. In 1969 he was able to hire out in Australia and he and his wife and son went back and forth from 1969-74. Jimmy Strange Jr. started his pipeline career there in 1969 as a laborer, oiler and operator until a welder helper position became available in 1974. Jimmy Jr. was able to acquire a book in Local 798 in 1975 and worked on the Alaska Pipeline with Big Jim as well as other high-profile jobs during the 80’s, 90’s. Jim Sr. retired in 1992 but came out of retirement in ’06-’07 to work in Wyoming on the REX Project as a sideboom hand. He was one of the “Original Pipeliners” who helped make not only our industry's working conditions but the vital and much needed industry that it is for so many of us today. Big Jim was a “Pipeliner’s Pipeliner” and knew just about everything there was to know about how to build a pipeline. His resume’ was chock-full of almost every position ever related to a laying a pipeline from oiler to spreadman to owner of his own pipeline company in Australia. Big Jim helped a lot of people enter the world of pipelining either through inspection or the four crafts that make up the work force for the contractors. He helped people that knew which craft they wanted to pursue, either through his position at the time or advice from his encyclopedic knowledge of pipelining. He was always willing to share his experi-ences and never withheld any information that would either help someone in their chosen craft or to keep them from getting hurt or killed in the discharge of their duties. Jim pipelined all over the world. Countries like Turkey, Venezuela, Australia and of course

OBITUARIES all most every State in the USA. He was sought out for mountain work when he was a “Clam Hand”; not just because of his knowl-edge and experience, but also for his common sense in rocky and dangerous environments. He will be missed on the line and his memory faded out to the new generations who regard him and oth-ers like him as “Old School”, but I would be remiss in these words if I didn’t say “That without people like Big Jim back then, there wouldn’t be a pipeline of today”. This memorial tribute was written by Big Jim’s son, Jimmy Strange, Jr.
