SUMl>iARY The 1st of July found the let Battalion, 5th Marines ln

regimental reserve at TA 3031-S-1, about eigl1t m:l.les north of Inje, North Korea. 11 011 Company was still detached to the operational control of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. For• appl~ox1mately t\\iO weeks the 1st Battalion rema1ned in this area, du~ing which time a daily routine of patrols, 1nr.pect1ons EL'ld training t·.ras carried out,

However, the realm of much needed recreation was not overlooked. In this respect. a natural· amnhl.theater was utilized for ~ovies and touring stage shows. In addition, participe.tion ln volly ball, soft ball, and horse shoe pitching contests was encouraged during off hours.

On the 3rd of the month 11 A'1 Company relieved 11 C11 Company on position. "0 11 Company then returned to the operational control of the let Battalion. On the 15th of July the 5th Marine Regiment \'rent into corps reserve B.&"ld. displaced. to Inje, North Korea. The let Battalion completed this move­ment bv 1500 on the 15th end nromntlv established securitv outposts- :for the .Regiment~ . These~ were~ maintained until after the end of t1e month.

Around the 20th ot the month a group ot Marines under Lieutenant WRIGHT departed to begin work on the Wiohita Line, a secondary defense line. Their runotion wae to s.UJ)ervise the South Korean laborers in the ,construction or approximately 3500 yRrds Of fortifications,

On the 23rd of the month "B" company displaced from the Battalion area to relieve I'C" Company trom their security • m1Sa1on w1th the llth Marines.

At 1306 one (1) member of Patrol #l reported in with the information that the members or h1s patrol had walked 1nto a m1net1eld 1n TA 2608-L and the patrol had suffered one (l) KIA and three (3) WIA, The engineers were notified ~~d departed to the area immediately followed by the S-3 officer, TACP officer and a medical unit at 1330, For the ~uroose of covering more territory, patrol #1 and #4 had split up into two elements each, The-two elements of Patrol #4 came in at 1435.
