arranged the owners and their pets will be transported to the Medical Section. The Battalion Medical Officer will insure that an original and one (1) co~ of the battalion register of owners and their pets reaches the Preventive Medicine Officer on the date of innoculation. The date and treatment will be entered thereon and returned to the Battalion S-1 who will then forward such information to Regimental Headquarters. Regiment will request stamped metal tags (I. D. Tags) which will be put1ched, eg ••

5· Innoculations will be froo of charge.

6. Owners will assume the responsib:l .. l: .. t.;r for providing a proper c.ollar or other suitable device for suspending tags from the neck of their pots. This cost cannot be assumed by the Government.

7, All pots that have not been registered with the Battalion S-1, innoculated and pr9perly tagged by 24 August 1953 will be picked up by the Battalion Provost Marshal who will contact the Division Provost Marshal for disposition of such pets.

e. All ccrnpanies will submit to Batt1l.lion S-1, prior to 1600, 21 August 1953 a roster by name of pcrsms having pets and description of same.

2, Guard and security measures conducted by this battalion >~ill be as

prescribed herein:

a, Command Post and Camp Area Security

(l) The Headquarters Commandant will be responsible for the security

of the Command Post Area. He will be assisted by a battalion guard consist

ing of one (1) Officer of the DayJ ~e (1) Commander of the Guard, four (4) Corporals of the Guard, and twenty (20) members of the guard. ·

(2) Company Commanders will be responsible for the security of their

own canpany areas, They will establish their dwn guard, utilizing their ~

personnel.

(3) Guard posts for the Command Po$t Area are established a& follows:

1. The post of the Officer of the Day ~Jill be a twenty-:feur (24) hour post.

Posting, and relief will be conducted as set forth in the Landing Party Manual

in the office of the Battalion Executive Officer at 0750 daily,

:2. Insure that the Corporal of the Quard conducts an inspection of each

relief of the guard prior to going on post.

J, Inspect each relief of the g=rd on post.

4. Inspect all mess :fonnations at the messhall and insure that companies

:form in the se<:juence listed in the Daily Routine. The Officer o:f the Dey

Will eat uoon and evening meals in the general mess. A report on the qual-·

ity and quantity of the :food :for each meal will be entered in the log book,

5. Keep the Commander of the Guard in:fonncd of your whereabouts at all times.

6. Keep a log bo••k for the entry of pertinent occurrences during the tour of

duty,

7, Insure that Colors are executed in the proper manner; Morning Colors at

oaoo, Evening Colors at sunset,

S. Insure that reveille, taps, and bed checks are effected in accordance with

the Daily Routine.

9. The post of thu Officer of the Day will be the guard tent, He '\;ill sleep

in the guard tent.

10, Be responsible that no unauthorized indigenous persons enter the Battalion

Area, In the evant such persons are apprehended they will be detained at the

guard house and tha Battalion· S-:2 office will be notified immediately.

U, Insure that all sentries receive en;r written or verbal orders that have

been issued during the day.

12, In the event of fire have tha fire alann sounded, make an immediate

report by telephone or messcngar to the Battalion Executive Officer, and go

to the scene of the fire and take charge of the fire fighting detail until

arrival of the Battalion Fire Me.rshal.

13. Investigate any shooting or disturt,ance1 reported theft, or other unusual

occurrence immediately; make an illlnodiate report by telephone or nwssengcr to

the Battalion Executive Officer, and enter the :facts in tha log book.

14, Be thoroughly familiar with all spcci:U or(j.ers for all posts,

15. Insure that t.ho guard is at ill times maintained in the highest state of

discipline, military courtesy and bearing, and conduct of duties,

1, The post of the Commander of the Guard will be a permanent post,

2, He Will be directly rasponsible to the Officer of the Day and will assist

him in his duties,

3, Make inspections of the guard on post,

4, In tha event of an emergency, immc>diately notify the Officer of the Day,

Battalion Executive Officer, or Battalion Commanding Officer for instructions.

5. In the absence of the Officer of the Jay, in the event of fire, sound the

alarm, immediately notify the Battalion Fire Marshal, Battalion Executive

Officer, or Battalion Commanding Officer, go to the scene of the fire and take

charge until the arrival of the Officer of the .Day or the Fire Harshal.

6, Insure the.t the Corporal of tho Guard logs in all Marine personnel appre•

hended for viohtion of Battalion G0neral Orders and regulations, The Officer

of the Day will be notified of all such personnel apprehended during his ab

sence, Apprehended personnel will be tumed over to their company awaiting

·office hours, ·

7, Insure that the Corporal of the Guard logs in all unauthorized indigenous

persons apprehended within tho battalion area, The Officer of the Day and th<>

Battalion S-2 office will be notified immediately and the apprehended parsons

will be held until the latter has arranged for their disposition,

8, w'hen any member of the guard is reported for neglect, der<>liction, or

disobedience of his general and special orders, or other battalion regulations,

notify the Officer of the Day and the Headquarters COIII!landant :ilmncdiately,

9. Keep th<> Officer of tho Day and the Corporal of the Guard infol1!led of

your whereabouts at all times, ·

10, Insure that each member of the guard receives a minimum of one (l) hour's

instruction daily, except Sunday,

1, The post of ,the Corporal of the Guard on :watch will be in the guard

tent except wherl 'otherwise direct-ed by proper authority, Relief will be

effected every four (4) hours,

are properly amed and present a neat and military appearance. Upu1 posting

each sentry he will insure that the sentry is well instructed and will further

check the sent.ry out in procedure for challenging.

phone or by messenger in case of phone failure.

4, He will keep a chrenologica.l record of events in the guard log book,

5. He will notify the Officer of the :Jay, in the absence of the Commander of

the Guard in case of emergency or in any case not covered by instructions.

He will perfom his duties in accordance with Landing Party Hanual, Chapter 5,

5, He will knmf the location of all company areas and staff sections of the battalion and will be able to give adequate directions to each.

6. He will allow no one, not on official business, to go out the gate unless he has in his possession a pass signed by the Battalion Executive Officer or Battalion Commander. Water runs, trash runs, moss supply, and general supply will be considered official business.

7, He will apprehend all indigenous persons who are not under Marine escort and notify th<J Corporal of the Guard and Commander of the Guard immediately,

8, He will inform the Corporal of the Guard immediately of any unusual occurrences,

1,. Natives will not be Tiolested, injured, nor <Jill their villages or individ

ual houses be entered, except as ne<:essary to apprehend violators (military)

and native loiterers or prostitutes.

2. All natives loitering around the battalion ryeri.meter, during daylight and

darlmem; 1 mey- be presumed to have been warned to stay away fran this battalion

area_, and their continued presence aonstitutes a violation of that >rarning.

This does not apply to those native fazmers who own and farm the paddies and

fields inm';;diately adje.cent to this battalion area; they tdll be permitted to

work and till their fields'" The classes of natives these regulations are

applicable to, are: wash-women, traders, sales persons, pimps, prostitutes and

continued loiterers and any native attempting to break into the battalion area,

J., Action to be Taken

a, Apprehend all loiterers, Ei~her the Officer of the Day or the Commander

of the Guard will personnlly accompany and take charge of the patrol(s), to

arrest or apprehend any natives, together with an interpreter,

b. m natives will have their passes examined by the interpreter:

(1) Natives with ~ocal oasaes (book form, numbered w/picturc and

family history inside):

(a) Those loitering, selling articles, or desiring to wash clothes

will have their passes taken away, The natives will be told by the inter;oreter

to go to the National ?·olice (Korean) to obtain their passes. The passes will

be listed, and turned over to thel Division Military Police by the Officer of

the Day or Commander of the Guard. A receipt wUl be obtained,

(b) Prostitutes and pimps: it an offer orp!2Q2!Jj.tion iu~ by

th<il native, they will be placed under arrest (on suspicion as U.'ldesirable) and

removed to the compound in the guard area, The Division iUlitary Police will

be notified and requested to send a truck to pick them up; on arrival, the

natives will be tumod over to custody of the K"'s.

(2) Natives ~~~1 local passes (green or other color passes from

Seoul, i'lijombu1 or Yong-dong-po area) will be promptzy arrested, removed to

the compound and handled as in J,b (1). (b) above,

4. Pass examination and instructions to too natives will be handled through

the interpreter assigned to the guard,

5, The Battalion Commanding Officer or J!'.xecutive Officer will be notifiJd

promptly of the a;,prehension or any native(s) and the full circumstances

involved,
