The District Clerk will automatically mail an Absentee Ballot to each voter whose registra-tion record on file with the county board of elections is marked “permanently disabled”. All other voters must submit an application prior to obtaining an absentee ballot.

An Application for Absentee Ballot will be available in the District Clerk’s Office begin-ning Tuesday, April 11, 2016 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The District Clerk’s Office is located in the Lake Shore Sr. High School at 959 Beach Road, Angola, NY.

The Application for Absentee Ballot must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days before (May 10, 2016) the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.

Emma Scott Emma Scott is the daughter of Shawn and Stephanie Scott of Derby. She is a sixth-grade student at Lake Shore Middle School and has been selected as a CRC Citizen of the month for March 2016. In school, Emma’s favorite subject is math. She is active in several sports including: soccer and softball. She is also on the Safe Club and recently participated in the middle school musical (Mary Poppins). She is considering a career in medicine. Her most favorite thing in the world is family. The character trait she feels is most important for continued success is loyalty.

Timothy Thexton Timothy Thexton is the son of Stephen and Jennifer Thexton of Angola. He is a seventh-grade student at Lake Shore Middle School and has been selected as a CRC Citizen of the month for March 2016. Timothy’s favorite subject is mathematics. After school, he enjoys football, sledding, and helping his family. His future goal is to motivate people to be their best. Timothy’s favorite thing in the world is to help others. The character traits that Timothy believes are the most important for continued success are “being happy and communicative.”

Nicole Logan Nicole Logan is the daughter of Shawn and Jaime Logan of Derby. SCHOOL TRANSFERS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENTS

Pursuant to an agreement between the New York State Education Department and the Lake Shore (Evans-Brant) Central School District, Native American children residing within the Cat-taraugus Reservation may attend the Lake Shore Central Schools by filing an application for transfer by April 15th each year. Such application for September enrollment shall be effective upon approval by the Lake Shore Superintendent, which approval or denial and the reasons therefore shall be set forth in writing. The state shall provide transportation for any child trans-ferring under this section.

Local Lions Club Member Honored

Mr. Charles “Lion Chuck” Militello, was presented the Evans Township Lions Club, “Lion of the Year” award in recognition his public service to the local community. Lion Chuck, a lifelong resident of the Town of Evans, has been an elected member of the Lake Shore Central School Board, owns his own business in the Derby area, is a 15 year mem-ber of the local Lions Club, and is Chairperson and driving force behind the physical improvements, and organization of the annual activities honoring our Veterans on Memorial Day weekend at the Derby Veterans Park. He is also Chair or Co-Chairperson of several fund raising activities within the Evans Township Lions club, and has recently assumed Chairmanship of the Lions Club annual “Sunshine Day” at Cradle Beach Camp. Being actively involved in community service, Lion Chuck, still finds time to play golf regularly, and tend his home garden. His busy schedule also has time for an an-nual vacation, which includes golf and gardening, Florida style, where he participates in local Lions Club activities while there.

Students Come Together For Night of Fiddling Fun

Students from the Lake Shore Highland Elementary Or-chestra program combined with the Senior High Orchestra for a night of fiddling fun at the Middle School. Members of the fourth and fifth-grade orchestra performed selections that encompassed a variety of styles. This was the first for-mal concert for the fourth-graders, and they were excited to begin the show. The fourth-grade orchestra concluded with a traditional fiddle tune, “Bile 'em Cabbage Down.” Members of the fifth-grade orchestra finished with a con-temporary Latin selection entitled, “Salsa Fest.” The High School Orchestra was dynamically rich in sound as they performed favorites “Sabre Dance” and “Let’s Get Loud”. The High School Percussion Ensemble added a bit of a Jamaican twist with “Mo Java” and “Cruzin’ Jamaica.” The finale concluded in a combined piece between the elementary and high school students as they performed an adventurous selection entitled “DragonHunter.” Over one hundred and thirty orchestra students played in this rous-ing encore, and it was a night to remember for all involved.

Lake Shore High School Freshman Academy Donates Fundraising

Money to Bald for Bucks Recently, the Lake Shore Freshman Academy held its An-nual March Madness Fun Night, but this year, the funds raised did not go to the class of 2019; rather, the class donated the money collected for this year's 2016 Bald-for-Bucks' Campaign. Student donations were voluntary, but many collected what they could to help support such a great cause. At Fun Night, students had the option to eat donated Maria's Pizza, play in our three-on-three basketball tourna-ment, extreme volleyball, Guitar Hero, Just Dance, Kara-oke or board games. Desserts and drinks were provided by freshmen parents, and upperclassmen shared their time to bond with Lake Shore freshmen. The Freshman Academy would like to thank all administrators, teachers, parents and student leaders for enabling us to have such a great night!


Lake Shore Elementary & Middle School Musicians Perform at Erie

County Music Festival at Kleinhan’s Last month students from Lake Shore Elementary schools, J.T. Waugh, Highland, A.J. Schmidt as well as the Middle School performed in the Erie County Music Festi-val at Kleinhan’s Music Hall. The district also sent 14 cho-ral students to the festival from fifth and sixth grade.Fifth Grader, Joshua Merritt, auditioned and was selected to play his French Horn with the All-County Orchestra. "I loved hearing all the different instrumental parts come together so beautifully," he said."It is a very motivating experience for the students to per-form with other top musicians from Erie County. Student performer Jayla Stafford summed up her experience saying, “It was amazing to sing at Kleinhan’s! The sound we cre-ated in that hall was awesome."Mrs. Alicia Faust, Mrs. Holly Martin, Mrs. Lynn Streeter, Mr. Todd Creech and Mrs. Anna Agro prepared the fifth and sixth-grade students for the festival and are very proud of their hard work. Southtowns Catholic School Lesson on Passover

Mrs. Barbara Manley's Middle School Religion classes had a lesson on Passover. Each class sat a large table and ate unleaven bread and other foods that represented pass-over. It is a tradition during the Seder meal for family & friends to unite and narrate the story of exodus, drink wine (the kids had grape juice) and eat symbolic foods to ob-serve the occasion. Southtowns Catholic School Builds Bird Feeder

Students in Miss Strozyk's grade 4 class are working on a unit about Birds and their Adaptations. Using an ESP Sci-ence Kit, students discussed types of birds, characteristics of different types of birds and habits of birds. The students then built a bird feeder out of pvc pipes, aluminum trays and other recycled materials and set it up in the school courtyard. Scott (Bonnie) Ellis, Anthony F. Ellis, Gina (Jeffrey) Truby, Catherine (Richard) Rogers, Christina (Christopher) LeRoy, Stephen Ellis, Gary (Marcie) Krueger and Toni Crawford. Phyllis was a graduate of An-gola High School and SUNY Fredonia where she earned her B.S. Degree in Education. She also studied at Cornell and St. Bonaventure Universi-ties. Phyllis and her husband were instrumental in estab-lishing several scholarships at SUNY Fredonia and has been honored on several occasions for her generosity. Over her 42 year teaching career she taught at Holland, Bolivar and Lake Shore Central Schools, retiring in 1981. Memberships included Lake Shore Retired Teachers Association, New York State Retired Teachers As-sociation, South Towns Retired Teachers Association, National Trust for Historic Preservation, American Association for Uni-versity Women, Eden Histori-cal Society, Eden American Le-gion Auxiliary, Eden Women’s Bowling League and the L.K. Painter Community Center. Family will be present to re-ceive friends Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 9 to 10 AM in the Addison Funeral Home Inc. 262 N. William A. Gambee William A. Gambee of Angola, NY entered into rest March 30, 2016; loving husband of Bonnie (Ford) Gambee; dearest father of Robert (Carrie) Gambee, Debra (late Joseph) Gam-bee, William Gambee Jr., Susan (Frederick) Wilhelm, Lisa (Michael) Guenot, Linda (Ric) Gambee and Michelle (John) Ciciera and the late Donald Gambee; also survived by 19 grand-children and 4 great grand-children; son of the late Lewis A. and Mildred Gam-bee Mr. Gambee was a life long resident of the Town of Evans where he worked for many years along side his father in their blacktop and landscape business. Later he owned and operated his own business, Gambee and Sons Repair in Derby. After retirement he and his wife of 58 years, Bonnie, traveled extensively throughought North America. Mr Gam-bee was proud to be a donor of over 15 gallons of blood along with Apheresis for the Red Cross. He is still looking for a “pound of tweny’s”. Memorials may be made to the First Church of Evans, Derby, NY where Mr. Gambee was a lifelong member. A celebration of life was held Saturday, April 2, at the family residence. Travis Gamache Travis Gamache is the son of Steven and Lisa Gamache of Derby. He is a sixth-grade student at Lake Shore Middle School and has been selected as a CRC Citizen of the month for February 2016. In school, Travis’s favorite subject is math. He is active in several sports including: baseball, hockey and the 100 mile club. He is considering a career in either professional sports or airline pilot. Travis’s favorite thing in the world is playing baseball or hockey. The character traits he feels are most important for continued success are “to be kind, respectful and loyal.”
