“Sorrow looks back! Worry looks around! Faith
looks up!” Go for it!
... Divine Mercy Sunday was established by Pope
Saint John Paul II in the year 2000 to be observed
on the Sunday after Easter! That’s today (27)!
Our celebration reminds us of God’s great love and
pursuit of us, no matter what! We are loved!
... On Divine Mercy Sunday a plenary indulgence
(complete forgiveness of sins and punishment) is
granted to the faithful who celebrate the Sacrament
of Reconciliation, participate in the Eucharist, and
pray for the intentions of our Holy Father. These
conditions are all met by a recent Reconciliation,
and by your participation in Mass today (27).
... Saints from our own time! Two popes canon-
ized today (27) by Pope Francis!
... Karol Woytyla was born in Wadowice, Poland,
on May 18, 1920, was ordained a priest on Novem-
ber 1, 1946, and elected Pope John Paul II on Oc-
tober 16, 1978. He died on April 2, 2005.
... Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was born on Novem-
ber 25, 1881, in Sotto il Monte, Italy, was ordained
a priest on August 10, 1904, and elected Pope John
XXIII on October 28, 1958. He died on June 3,
1963. He convened the Second Vatican Council,
which graced us with great renewal in the Church.
... It was nice to see so many gather for our Easter
celebrations, particularly on Easter Sunday (20).
Christ truly is at the heart of many lives. Alleluia!
... On Good Friday (18), $3,443.00 was contrib-
uted towards the support and upkeep of the shrines
and ministry in the Holy Land!
... On Holy Thursday, Holy Saturday and Easter
Sunday, a total of $34,162.50 was contributed in
support of our parish ministry, with 625 families
using parish envelopes. A further $5,095.00 was
contributed online. Thank you!
... Our musicians, cantors and choirs serve us so
generously and faithfully! ‘Thank you’ for all
your preparation and presentation, all under the
direction of Julie Marner! You do us proud!
... Our Altar Society thoroughly dusted and cleaned
the church for Easter, and, under the guidance of
Sandi Brenner and Jamie Templin, planned, pre-
pared, and set the beautiful floral arrangements in
the church. A great environment! Thank you!
... ‘Thank you’ to Liz Beiner, Deacon Bob and
Mary Moran, and our entire RCIA team and Spon-
sors, for your ministry on behalf of us all!
... Congratulations to parishioner and Cathedral
High School Junior, Hannah Labrie-Smith, who on
Saturday (12), at the Arcadia Invitational, broke the
San Diego Section 300 meter hurdle record, set by
Olympian Gail Devers 31 years ago! Hannah was
featured in the Diane Bell column of the San Diego
UT on Tuesday (22). A champion!
... The Holy Name and great volunteers served over
940 lbs of fish during our six weeks of Fish Fry,
gave away almost $2,000.00 in Bingo prizes, and
raised over $4,000.00 for their ministry. Mighty!
... Congratulations to Don and Kathleen Jones on
their 51st Wedding Anniversary this Sunday (27).
Kathleen coordinated our Eucharistic ministry at
Scripps Encinitas for years, and Don served as Food
Pantry coordinator for a long time, and currently
serves as a Lector and is part of our ever faithful
Collection Counting team. Don is ever with us, and
Kathleen wishes she could be.
... Our Saint John School and Religious Education
classes for all our children resume this week.
... Our Knights meet this Thursday (1) at 7:00pm.
... This Friday (2), we have Benediction of the
Most Blessed Sacrament following 8:00am Mass!
... Enjoy the Pancake Breakfast prepared and
served by our youth this Sunday (27).
... Please make a pledge to our Annual Catholic Ap-
peal which assists the extensive ministry of our
Diocese. We need your participation.
... Fiesta de las Flores 2014 is set for August 9 and
10, here at Saint John. It’s a fun time for all!
… Registration for our Vacation Bible Camp is
underway. For children in Grades K - 5, it runs
from July 14 - 18, 8:30am to 12:30pm. Forms are
available in the Rel Ed, Parish and School offices.
... Our Altar Society Corporate Communion is this
coming Sunday (4) at the 9:00am Mass.
... Please keep Bishop Flores and Monsignor Har-
nett in your prayers, for a full and speedy recovery!
... Monday (28) is the 7th Anniversary of the
tragic death of Father Walter Vogel OSA, who was
born on Ecke Farm in Encinitas, and whose family
is ever with us, and this Wednesday (30) is the 11th
Anniversary of the death of Father Eduardo
Gudino at the young age of 42. Ordained in 1994,
his first assignment was here at Saint John. Great
servants! May they both rest in peace.
... “Only the mercy of God will quench the thirst of
all people!” Truly!

¡Nuevo renacer, nueva vida, buenas noticias!

Dolorosa comenzaron
a parpadear durante
un lapso de 15
minutos en el colegio
jesuita San Gabriel, en
Quito, Ecuador.
E n 1 9 9 5 e n
Cochabamba, Bolivia,
donde una imagen del
Divino rostro lagrimó
sangre y después, una
i m a g e n d e l a
