EL PAN DE VIDA El Evangelio de hoy presenta a la gente haciéndole tres preguntas a Jesús. Primero: “¿cuándo llegaste acá?”, a la que Jesús responde con una reprimenda por su incapacidad para entender el milagro como una “señal”, una ocasión para poner la fe en él. La segunda pregunta tenía que ver con la realización de las “obras de Dios” a la que Jesús responde que la fe es la “obra” que Dios desea. Muchos eruditos creen que esta es la respuesta de Juan a la dicotomía fe-obras que estaba surgiendo en la primera comunidad cristiana. La fe es la obra de Dios en el creyente, Juan nos quiere hacer entender. La tercera pregunta que hace la multitud es una “señal” que les permita poner su fe en Jesús, como el maná en el desierto permitió a los israelitas poner su fe en el Señor Dios. Jesús responde con la revelación de que él es el “pan de vida” que “baja del cielo y da la vida al mundo”.
FRAY ANTONIO MARGIL Y el día 6 de agosto de 1726, Fray Antonio Margil de Jesús, el fundador de las misiones en Texas dijo “Ya es hora de ir a ver a Dios” y tomó su último paso. Desde su llegada a América en 1683 el indomable Hermano Menor trazó caminos para llevar el Evangelio de Jesucristo a los nativos. Él emprendía sus caminos al estilo de los primeros misioneros seráficos de dos en dos, a pie, descalzo, alim entado sólo por virtud de la generosidad de los fieles, pasando las noches donde pudiera, armado sólo de un crucifijo, un bastón y su libro de oraciones y cantando mientras caminaba. De esta manera propagó la fe caminando hacia el norte llegando a la Bahía del Espíritu Santo en el Misisipí; y hacia el sur, llegando al istmo de Panamá. A pesar del éxito de sus esfuerzos misioneros, Margil fue un hombre humilde que nunca quiso enorgullecerse de sus victorias. Solía firmar sus cartas “la misma nada” recordando así que Dios es todo y uno no es nada, porque la misión, en fin, es de Dios, uno es sólo un instrumento.
