A very special ‘Welcome home’ to all of our family members back with us for the Christ-mas vacation! Family! ... The religious Christmas Season extends until the feast of the Baptism of the Jesus, at the great age of 30, and the beginning of his public life, this year celebrated on Sunday (12). ... Today (29), we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. “Every effort to make society sensitive to the importance of the family is a great service to humanity!” Pope John Paul ll. ... This coming Sunday (5) we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany, which marks the arrival of the Three Kings at Bethlehem, and the manifestation of Jesus as the Savior for all people. “Wise ones still seek Him!” ... This Wednesday (1) we begin a whole new year! Welcome 2014! Ring-in the New Year with us at a special Family Mass at 9:00am. ... Wednesday (1) is the feast day of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, and is also designated as a World Day of Prayer for Peace. It is a holyday, but not of obligation. ... Our Altar Society, with Sandi Brenner and Jamie Templin, and many more, decorated our church for Christmas, with help from Greg Butler, Matt and Carol Williamson, Franco Aguilar and Adan Al-tamirano, who also planned our exterior décor! ... Shirley Shetula, and our Saint Vincent de Paul Society, with a lot of ‘little’ and ‘not so little’ help-ers, distributed 136 Christmas Baskets to needy families, serving over 700 people. ‘Thank you’ for your generosity and for all you make possible. ... A lot of credit to Isaac Deken and our teenagers for their time, energy and commitment in decorat-ing and preparing our Christmas Baskets! Mighty! ... Por generaciones, diversas culturas han considerado la vida familiar como una necesidad sumamente útil. El li-
bro de Sirácide intro-duce el honor y el respeto. Tanto para los judíos como para los cristianos, el valor de la familia da otro audaz y espléndi-do paso. La familia es vista como la escuela indispensable donde se aprende el amor.
Pablo se dirige a los Colosenses y presenta una lista de virtudes que ayudan a crear una Iglesia sólida y feliz. Es-tas virtudes — misericordia, bondad, humildad, docilidad, paciencia, perdón — contribuyen también a que una fami-lia feliz se sienta cómoda consigo misma y con sus miem-bros. Y como pilar, Pablo insta al amor que eleva todas estas virtudes a la perfección. Pablo parece estar muy entusiasmado cuando exalta las virtudes de la Iglesia en Colosas. Con estas virtudes tan sentidas no es de extrañar que Pablo rompa a can-tar:¡Quién no haría lo mismo! Está claro que el centro de su círculo es el amor. Es evidente que no importa cuan lejos sus miembros estén del hogar, el corazón siempre está allí y todos ellos están conectados por la fuerza gravitatoria del amor mutuo.

En naciones latinoamericanas se celebra el final de un año con la “quema del año viejo”. Construyen grandes muñecos con ropa vieja, pólvora y papel que se encienden a medianoche entre los dos años. Celebrar el comienzo de un año nuevo tiene una larga trayectoria en la his-toria humana. Hace unos 4000 años el pueblo de Babilonia ya
festejaba la llegada de un nuevo año con grandes fiestas de primavera. Los judíos, al igual que otros pueblos agrícolas, también celebraban su año nuevo durante la primavera, el primer día de Nisán (a principios de abril). Fue Julio César quien nos dio la fecha del primero de en-ero como el inicio de nuestro calendario. En 1582 el Papa Gregorio XIII reformó el calendario para darnos el que actualmente está en uso. No obstante, los cristianos con-tinuaron celebrando el año nuevo en primavera para evitar los excesos del “hombre viejo”. Hace 400 años la Iglesia comenzó a celebrar el día primero de enero buscando cris-tianizarlo lo mejor posible. Por eso en el calendario litúr-gico este día es dedicado a María, Madre de Dios.
UN PENSAMIENTO PARA DESEARLES UN FELIZ AÑO NUEVO Está por comenzar un año nuevo, ya no tiene importancia lo malo que te haya pasado en el año que
se va, empezaras una nueva pagina en tu libro de la vida y eso es lo importante, ya no hay vuelta atrás en este libro, no podrás arrancar las hojas ni borrar nada de lo escrito en ellas, lo único que puedes hacer es reflexionar sobre lo que estuvo bien y lo que estuvo mal. Espero que tengas muchas cosas buenas de lo que puedas estar orgulloso/a, y lo malo ya no importa, todo eso ya paso y ahora eso quedará en el pasado, solo trata de no volver a cometer los mismos errores. Plantéate nuevos objetivos y nuevas metas; claro, siempre y cuando sean buenas tendrás la capacidad de lograrlos, te deseo mucha suerte, salud, paz, alegría, y todas las cosas buenas de la vida para este próximo año 2014 y todos los que vengan por delante.......
