LUZ DEL MUNDO Y SAL DE LA TIERRA

Si no podemos dar testimonio concreto del amor de Cristo en n u e s t r a s v i d a s , entonces, sin duda, somos sal que se ha vuelto desabrida. Nuestro sabor y nuestra influencia se

han perdido. Qué difícil es recuperarlos de nuevo. A fines de la década de 1940 el movimiento cristóforo empezó en Estados Unidos. El lema de los cristóforos: “Es mejor encender una vela que maldecir la oscuridad”, atrajo a muchos a través del uso eficaz de los medios de comunicación, los anuncios y la inspiración de sus miembros para proclamar a Cristo en el lugar de trabajo. Jesús nos llama a ser esa vela y a ponerla en el lugar más visible. Jesús, que trajo la vida eterna al mundo, nos dice que nosotros también somos la luz del mundo. Mediante nuestro mundo y nuestras acciones tenemos que dejar que nuestra luz brille ante todos para que al ver nuestras buenas obras, todos puedan glorificar a Dios.

SANTOS QUE BILLO SU LUZ EN LA IGLESIA UNIVERSAL

La primera santa americana fue Rosa de Lima, peruana de nacimiento. Murió en 1617 y fue canonizada en 1671, diez años después de la primera fundación inglesa en lo que hoy son Estados Unidos de América. Esta santa americana es acompañada por otros santos como san Felipe de Jesús (mexicano) canonizado en 1862 y Madre F ranc i sca Cabrini (italoestadounidense y la primera santa de EE. UU.) canonizada en 1946. Oficialmente hay 60 santos y 77 beatos que nacieron o trabajaron en América. La mayoría de estos son 50 mexicanos, 33 brasileños, 12 canadienses, nueve estadounidenses, ocho colombianos, siete peruanos, tres argentinos y tres chilenos. Guatemala, Cuba, República Dominicana, Uruguay y Venezuela tienen un santo(a) cada uno. Estados Unidos y Canadá comparten siete mártires. La mayoría de los santos o santas del continente americano fueron beatificados o canonizados durante los últimos 100 años. Sólo ocho de ellos y ellas fueron canonizados durante los últimos ocho años. No todos estos santos nacieron en América, pero sí dedicaron su vida a evangelizarla. Estos 137 santos de la Iglesia universal son un testimonio de la obra del Espíritu Santo en el continente americano.
