SURVIVORS IN PHILIPPINSBY: LAURA ÁLVAREZ, ALEJANDRO PEÑA,

PAULA RODAS & BEATRIZ MARTÍNEZ

When we were on holiday in Philippins this autumn, we lived a terrible experience. One day, the 8th November, we were staying on the beach. While we were playing voleyball, we saw a typhoon coming us.

People started to run, but the ground was flooded and they couldn’t scape. We hid in the athic of our hotel with other people. Afterwords, when the typhoon finished, we left the hotel.

We saw a lot of injured people on the ground. There were a lot of corpses and destroyed things. The typhoon caused a lot of damages in the island. The plants and the buildings were ruined and people were screaming and crying.

The next moment a group of firefighters appeared and helped the few survivors. They carried us to a hospital where all the survivors were. They had serious wounds and there were a lot of destroyed families.

A few days later, we returned to Spain and knew the typhoon was called Haiyan and it had killed 3976 people. 1590 people had disappeared and 12544 were injured. After knowing that, we felt really lucky.
