Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church! I am happy that you were able to join our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time. You bless us with your presence and
prayerful participation. I pray that this sacred time will strengthen your faith and lift your spirit. Thanks for joining us! This weekend, I give thanks for the over 400 volunteers who share their time and talent with various parish sponsored activities. This includes Choir members, Legion of Mary, CYO Board and coaches, Bereavement Committee, Hospitality, PREP Staff, Teachers and Aides, Scout leaders, Liturgical Ministers, Home & School Board and Committees, Ushers, Altar Servers, Knights of Columbus, Picnic Committee, Guitar Group, Greeters, etc., etc, etc. These volunteers enrich our Parish community through their gifts of time and talent. Please thank our volunteers as you encounter them during Parish activities or at Mass. As I thank the Parish volunteers for their service, I also offer an invitation to you! Consider volunteering your time and talent in your Parish community. Check out the flyer in today’s bulletin listing all the opportunities for service in our Parish. Sign up for a ministry! It’s a great way to meet other parishioners. It’s a great way to feel more comfortable in our Parish community. In today’s Gospel, Jesus seems a little extreme when it comes to eliminating anyone or thing that causes one to sin. Jesus suggests that we “cut off” that person or thing that causes us to sin. The idea of cutting off a hand or foot seems drastic, but the meaning is clear. “Better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God” without a hand, or foot, or eye than with two hands, two feet and two eyes be “thrown into Gehenna.” Sin is serious business, it is to be avoided at all cost. Eliminating the causes of sin is to be a priority. Peace be with you!
God bless,
Fr. McKee
Many thanks for the Parish Picnic volunteers who provided a nice day of fun and food on a rainy day. I
hope to do a better job with the weather next year!

Office of the Archbishop Archdiocese of Philadelphia
Dear Friends, Earlier this month, I marked seven years as your archbishop. During that time, our Church has faced and solved some very difficult problems. None of that could have been done without your patience, generosity and support. I’m very grateful to all of you, and to each of our parish communities. The grand jury report released in August did not involve the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, but it does impact all of us. As I’ve shared with you previously, any form of retroactive statewide “window” or “reviver” legislation to address the abuse issue in decades past would be unjust to the innocent Catholic laypeople, clergy, and families who make up our community today. It would also be financially disastrous to our ministries, our parishes, and the Archdiocese at large. However, the bishops of Pennsylvania do understand and deeply regret the suffering of survivors and have committed to voluntarily helping abuse victims whose claims are time-barred. I joined with bishops across the Commonwealth on September 21 to release a statement explaining our commitment. That statement can be found on our archdiocesan website. Please do take the time to read it. Obviously, this course of action will require extraordinary Church resources, but it can avoid the bitter litigations and diocesan bankruptcies that will follow any destructive changes in the statute of limitations. The details of such a proposed program are under development. I’ll share them fully with you once finalized. Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap Archbishop of Philadelphia
